Dino Rossi worked for a crooked real estate broker who went to prison for bilking widows and orphans of their savings, and when the broker got out of jail, Dino made a beeline to his door hoping to work for him again. And some folks want this guy to be governor? I DON’T THINK SO!!!

It may be a stupid headline, but week after week this blog relies on the newspapers for much of its information, but they don’t rely on you. So much for the great blog revolution. I have come to the conclusion that blogs are nothing more but glorified chatrooms.
I think you have a valid point. HA does tend that way .. not just in the threads but in the articles.
When Goldy added editors, I was hoping the result would be more “meat” here. I think SP, for all tis men-ness, does a better reporting job than HA,
There are, however, exceptions. Lee, Geov and Goldy both frequently post thought pieces that consider their areas of interest. Goldy, this may surprise you, but some of the bets things i have read here have been your thoughts on the effect of light rail on real estate.
Darryl is somewhat disappointing … given this man’s wide knowledge I would like to see him write on more issues. But, his analyses of the Prexy Bowl is abut the best I have seen.
Paul … not to be mean but I think he is in the wrong blog. Paul is a macista and I spect would love to go on iRiffs. Instead he recooks the news and has, so far had little exciting to say.
Will … this is a tough one. Will comes closest to being an online diarist. Little that he posts has anything novel in but he does create a unique, for me, insight into Belltown-ers. It took me months to realize that these folks were not just living in medium stay hotels and actually think they have a right t a say abut MY city’s future. I do wish he would write more about the contrast between Belltown and other parts of the city, maybe as a separate blog.
Fianlly, if someone would just restrain the Enter key on hi8s puter, RR actually has a lot of good things to say. I wish he were an editor here.

I try to make my blog SEATTLEJEW into a kind of newspaper. I read very widely and when I see something that I think is interesting, I cross post at SJ. This includes an effort to read the world press .. I regularly post from Nigeria, Russia, SAmerica, etc.
I also write quite a lot on my perspectives on issues that interest me most … politics from an independent perspective. I am not really a liberal, conservative, or Demreprican. I do have a firm commitment to rationality and Jeffersonian democracy. I also write on science,
Take a look, I would welcome critique about how to make SJ more interesting to you.

C’mon, SJ, I’ve been a reporter and it’s a full-time job. You can’t gather news as a hobby. It takes years to develop sources and you have to cover your beat every day of the week to stay on top of things and get stories. Goldy is more of an outside observer of the political scene, just as Stefan and all of his flacks are. If you want hard news, buy a newspaper, for crying out loud. That’s what newspapers are for.
Goldy: Thanks for putting out a thought provoking column. I like the critique of the news. If all someone gets is the Seattle Times – then the real news is slipping by unnoticed. I think that is goldy’s point – and a good one.
Liberals and conservatives alike can agree that newspapers serve an important function – but leave out a lot of the actual thought provoking and relevant material. Bloggers who point up the deficiencies in newspapers are needed to balance the equation – not to be a substitute for the actual newspaper. Commentary on the news can sometime be a lot more useful than the actual news reporting.
Why in the world is anyone worried about media cross-ownership when newspapers seem to be going out of their way to prove their irrelevance and eventual obsolescence?
Thing is, real psychics never get popped. It’s axiomatic.

Great job with the letter(s) to the editor! They did add your reference to HA and (u)SP as better news sources than the Times when it was printed for the second time. And your preferred news sources generally are more informative than the Times.

“I was told to antagonize the pro-lifers and I made the girls throw out any pro-life literature before entering the clinic. … We would tell them, “Those people out there are terrorists, it’s safer in here. They’re crazy.” I even told one group, “That woman out there was just released from Meadowview Mental Hospital. Don’t talk to her; she killed her family.” … As soon as I got here last August, I joined the “Freedom of Choice Action League.” They’re big at Pine and Market. Some of them practice witchcraft and sometimes they chalk pentagrams [a Satanic symbol] on the sidewalks. … I had written about how they openly practice witchcraft and how the clinic director tells us, every time we beat up the pro-lifers, to cover their cameras. … I wrote [in an editorial to the Wichita Eagle] that pro-abortionists displayed sex toys in front of children and how they dumped semen and urine on people at national rescues. I personally defaced churches, LIFE, Inc., and HopeNet. I apologize for that. … They hate God, they’re anti-Christian …
“Pro-abortionists are the terrorists, not the pro-lifers. They’re the ones throwing bricks through people’s windows and doing obscene things. I was shocked when I went to the Crypt to pray and they were screaming and yelling, shouting obscenities, while all the pro-lifers were praying silently.”
