The largest gap between Democratic and Republican fundraising was seen in the Texas race, where Democratic nominee James Talarico brought in $54.5 million through his campaign committee, compared with $3.9 million that Republican nominee Ken Paxton has raised.

The thing is, Ms. Webber, Talarico is running for his people. Not for you.

“Our people don’t trust you for this reason,” said Webber, who is Black, after the crowd quieted to listen. “And you cannot win without us. So you stay here, you answer our questions, or you suffer the consequences.”

Talarico turned his attention to her and attempted to cool the tension: “I appreciate you being here, and I appreciate you traveling in and I appreciate you-”

“I came for my people, not for you,” she said.

$54.5 million. Whatever will Talarico do with all that money?

On Sunday, he committed $25 million to Black voter outreach, which he claimed was the largest such investment in Texas’ modern political history. He told the audience that neither he nor his campaign is perfect, but he appealed for their trust as his race for the U.S. Senate heats up.

“We are going to win this race in November,” Talarico said. “But there is no way to win Texas without showing up for, investing in and listening to Black communities across this state.”

Ah. He’s gonna heavily grease the palms of black campaign consultants.

12 Eliminated Gazan Soccer Players Linked to Hamas and Islamic Jihad

These individuals, who in many cases were portrayed internationally as innocent professional soccer players, referees and coaches, were affiliated with terrorist organizations that posed a threat to Israeli civilians and were eliminated over the course of the war.

Following their eliminations, news outlets, state officials, prominent influencers and even official soccer organizations mourned them and accused Israel of deliberately targeting ״professional athletes״ in an effort to undermine Gazan soccer.

These claims are proven to be false, and align with other false allegations that the IDF purposefully targets journalists, aid workers and other internationally protected professions.

On the contrary, these individuals were not targeted because of their work, but because of their proven involvement in terrorist activity. They used their civilian professions as a cover for their terrorist affiliations, exploiting their protected status and endangering civilians. The IDF does not deliberately target Gazan athletes.

8:32: The U.S. Senate goes red. Okay…maybe tonight was as bad as the projections.

8:34: On the other hand, overreach by a rabidly Republican Senate can lead to more victories for Dems in 2016 when election results can have far greater consequences.

Now he was wrong about the 2016 Democrat victories but Darryl sure nailed it about the consequences of standing by while the DNC permitted #CrookedHillary to purchase it and then let Donna Brazile hand her the nomination. Those consequences (in part):

To put the Maine polling in context, Collins is underwater to a candidate who hasn’t even been formally nominated or started campaigning yet.

Warning signs for Susan Collins revealed in stunning new poll: report

Hopes that Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME) would waltz to re-election after her scandal-plagued Democratic opponent Graham Platner stepped aside dissipated Wednesday morning with the release of a new poll, reports show.

The data show former Maine Senate President Troy Jackson has vaulted into the lead against the incumbent Republican, signaling a competitive general election battle, according to a WGME.

A University of New Hampshire survey shows Jackson leading Collins 49 percent to 46 percent —a three-point advantage sitting just outside the margin of error.

The result represents a stunning reversal for Collins, who was expected to cruise to a comfortable victory once her original Democratic challenger imploded.

You could have asked me the same questions about Donald Trump’s prospects in early November, 2016.

Collins outperforms her polling, and 5% of poll respondents didn’t choose either of the major party candidates. Maine Senate race will be decided via ranked choice voting.

Add 5% to Collins’ current 46% and she gets a majority via ranked choice voting. Add 2.9% MOE to her 51% and she gets 53.9%, or a comfortable re-election to the Senate.

You wanted a scenario via any methodology that puts Collins ahead? There’s your fucking scenario.

This is what Republican legislators are doing to trans people:

First, “Senate Bill 44, passed with an override of Kansas Governor Laura Kelly’s veto, in part requires that a gender marker on any license matches the holder’s biological sex at birth.”

Then, “After receiving letters from the state following the passage of [the] new law directly impacting her, Kris Ripper took the necessary steps to ensure that she complied.”

Then, after being pulled over for a traffic stop, and presenting her driver’s license indicating male gender to the cop, “About a month after the traffic stop, Ripper received a letter informing her that she’d missed a court date for a charge of operating a motor vehicle without a valid license, a misdemeanor punishable by up to a $1,000 fine and six months in jail.”

    https://www.kwch.com/2026/07/01/transgender-kansan-speaks-out-after-facing-charge-amid-license-law-confusion/

That’s right, the state (i.e., the GOP-controlled legislature) forced a trans woman to get a male driver’s license, the cop didn’t believe her license was valid because she looks like a woman, so she was criminally charged for driving without a valid license even though she has a valid license.

I’m sure none of those anti-trans Republicans foresaw this, after all, they’re kneejerkers who don’t think things through. But even if they did foresee it, legal abuse of trans people probably is just fine with them.

  74. Roger Rabbit spews:

    Wednesday, 7/22/26 at 5:51 pm

@72 To answer that, you have to put yourself into the minds of foreign leaders, which isn’t easy to do.

Let’s start with a little history: In the 1940s, the U.S. raced to get an atomic bomb because our leaders feared Germany would get it first.

In the 1950s, we expanded our arsenal to thousands of nukes because our leaders feared a “missile gap.”

Since then, our nuclear strategy has been based on “MAD” (mutually assured destruction) — the idea that fear of nuclear war would keep anyone from starting one.

On the sidelines, Pakistan acquired nuclear weapons because their enemy, India, had them. Israel acquired them, even though their enemies didn’t have them, because Israel was afraid of its neighbors.

Do nuclear weapons confer “power” on a state? Ask most strategists and they’ll say nukes are useless. Even Putin won’t use them to bail himself out of a losing war. Their strategic value is purely for deterrence; their tactical value is zero. Every war fought since 1945 has been fought with conventional weapons, win or lose.

So why do Trump’s policies risk proliferation? First, by removing the “nuclear umbrella” that America provided up to now, countries like Saudi Arabia, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, and even New Zealand may decide they need their own nuclear deterrent if they can no longer rely on the U.S. deterrent.

Second, Putin’s attack on Ukraine and Trump’s attack on Iran — both superpowers have now launched aggressive wars against non-nuclear states — may persuade leaders of such states that they need a nuclear deterrent to prevent that from happening to them.

We haven’t really seen countries trying to get nukes in order to assert themselves in global affairs. If current events set off proliferation, I think it will be for defensive purposes. So, I’ll go with 95% paranoia and 5% power.

U.S. military strikes have targeted Iranian air defenses, command-and-control networks, coastal radar and other surveillance capabilities, missile and drone launch sites, underground storage, and maritime assets, including naval bases and small boats.

Missing from the target list: Iran’s nuclear facilities.

“[T]here’s no indication that U.S. military strikes are targeting Iran’s nuclear infrastructure …. Instead, the U.S. is discretely focused on preventing Iran from blockading the Strait of Hormuz — a task that is only necessary because of Trump’s ill-advised decision to go to war in the first place.”

No matter how Hegseth and others try to spin it, no matter their efforts to scare Americans into believing that the U.S. is fighting a war to keep a nuclear weapon out of Iran’s hands, the evidence is clear: The Iran war has little to do with nukes. … The U.S. is not fighting — and troops are not dying — to stop Iran from getting a nuclear weapon.

The chamber passed the Stop Insider Trading Act (HR 7008) in a 232-198 vote. The Democrats who voted in favor are Reps. Kathy Castor (Fla.), Henry Cuellar (Texas), Don Davis (NC), Jared Golden (Maine), Vicente Gonzalez (Texas), Josh Gottheimer (NJ), Marcy Kaptur (Ohio), Susie Lee (Nev.), Jared Moskowitz (D-Fla.), Chris Pappas (NH), Marie Gluesenkamp Perez (Wash.), Darren Soto (Fla.), and Derek Tran (Calif.).

    https://www.commondreams.org/news/trump-voter-id

Jared Golden won in 2024 50.35 to 49.65.

CA-45 went 50.1 – 49.9. This race was not called for 22 days after Election Night.

    WA-3 went 51.9 – 48.1.

About a month after the traffic stop, Ripper received a letter informing her that she’d missed a court date for a charge of operating a motor vehicle without a valid license, a misdemeanor punishable by up to a $1,000 fine and six months in jail.

I’m going to make some assumptions here. One that isn’t and you can look it up, Kansas has ‘fixit’ tickets. For a light, to satisfy the fine one can make the repair, go to a police station or even find an officer and have them verify the repair and send it in. No fine.

What they don’t do is issue you a ‘invalid license’ for a bad headlight. (Assumptions follow) Had she been issued an ‘invalid license’ ticket at the scene this story would be an even bigger deal and it would have made news within days, not when the ‘invalid license’ arrives by mail.

Now I’m a white male with privileges of being a white dad type now but I’ve been pulled over three times in my life for equipment. After assessing I’m not impaired or have outstanding warrants I’m ‘sent on my way’ with a ‘take care of that ASAP.’ No ticket. Which from the actual report, not your made up shit about a notice to appear, seems like what happened.

But what we CAN figure out is you sucked off another cop making up a story about a ‘notice to appear’

    Municipal judgement

Civil rights case if discriminatory for the sole fact a valid license is being carried by someone who the officer perceives is F while valid license says M

@80 She* wasn’t cited for an “operator’s permit infraction.” She was charged with a misdemeanor crime, as reported here:

The charge is a class B misdemeanour and could result in six months in jail, a fine of up to $1,000 and a permanent criminal record.

    https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/charges-dropped-against-kansas-trans-woman-threatened-with-jail-for-invalid-male-license/ar-AA26s1F6

Cops issue citations; D.A.s file charges. Police can tear up citations, but only D.A.s can drop charges. That’s why she went to the D.A. to sort this out.

A little digging into a local news source revealed a possible reason why the cop was suspicious of her license, and why she was charged (without, it seems, adequate investigation):

Supporters of the bill say it was designed to protect women and girls, as well as prevent criminals from escaping the law by changing their gender on their driver’s license. Opponents say … there aren’t many instances of this happening.

    https://www.kwch.com/2026/07/01/transgender-kansan-speaks-out-after-facing-charge-amid-license-law-confusion/

There was neither an infraction nor a crime in this case. She had a valid license. She was in full compliance with that law. The only possible infraction was for the headlights, but the cop gave her just a warning for that.

Failure to appear is a separate, standalone violation. She could be penalized for that even if the charge was invalid or wrongful. Articles about this case indicate she was surprised by the notice of failure to appear, which suggests she didn’t receive a notice to appear. We don’t know what those circumstances were. What’s clear is the D.A., presented with all the facts, concluded there was no case against her.

    https://www.msn.com/en-us/money/companies/elon-musk-isn-t-a-trillionaire-anymore/ar-AA26rPCZ

Whether he ever was is debatable. Net worth typically is calculated by valuing stock at the last market transaction. But if Musk sold all his Tesla and SpaceX stock, their prices would fall precipitously, and he would get nowhere near as much cash for the last shares as for the first shares to go on the market. A more realistic valuation might be the collateral or lending value a bank (or, in his case, a consortium of banks) would put on his shares if he borrowed against them to the max. In any case, what’s clear is Musk was never able to get a trillion dollars in cash for his TSLA and SPCX shares, unless the Treasury at Trump’s direction bought them from him for an arbitrary price as a reward for his campaign donations and other support. But even then, he’d have to kick back some of the proceeds to Trump, because Trump never does favors for free.

President Donald Trump appeared caught off guard Friday by a Fox News reporter’s question about lettuce causing “explosive diarrhea” — asking the president to confirm when Americans can eat the vegetable again. …

“I don’t know. I haven’t thought about it. That’s the first time I’ve been asked that question. Are you eating lettuce recently?” Trump responded.

A fired CBS reporter said “executives … attempted to interfere with her reporting.” She gave as examples,

as she was covering the fatal shootings of Renee Nicole Good and Alex Pretti [by] federal agents … executives urged her to include footage of protesters assaulting … undercover Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers, but … she found “no credible examples” of such altercations.

she was asked to include an excerpt of Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey proclaiming he wanted law enforcement to target ICE officers who were enforcing Trump’s immigration policies. “That never happened ….”
