Senator “I’m concerned but won’t do anything about it” Collins says we shouldn’t call out Supreme Court corruption because that might endanger the corrupt justices.

We don’t need Graham Platner to get rid of this senator. All we need is enough Maine voters to tire of Collins’ shtick.

“Other public officials have called the court corrupt, out of control, and serving an extremist agenda,” she continued. “This overheated language, this completely inappropriate rhetoric against the Supreme Court, endangers the lives of the justices and erodes public trust in our system of government. I believe that all of us must avoid that kind of dangerous and disturbing rhetoric, because it could in fact trigger violence,” Collins added.

First of all, calling the court corrupt is legitimate criticism.
Second, it’s the court itself that’s eroding public trust.
Third, this rhetoric is intended to trigger reform.

So yeah, she’s off base, and I’m not listening.

Meanwhile, asked by reporters about the ICE killing in Maine, the Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives responded, “Uh, I don’t know anything about this event.”

Doesn’t he ever read a newspaper or a news feed? Doesn’t he get briefings? Or know what the government he presides over is doing? Or is he just lying and hiding from reality?

This is what passes for GOP leadership these days. This, and fawning over Trump.

Sometimes the Bastille Day parade has other nations participate to honor key alliances, shame we weren’t the one this year. Ukraine was, but wouldn’t the milestone to invite the US be the 250th of France actually getting involved in our Revolution? Also, we were represented in the flyovers, some of the Rafale Bs came from Escadre du Chase 2/4, French Air and Space Force. This unit carries on the Lafayette Escadrille of WWI. It was a unit of American volunteers then. Today the unit carries a weapon that was unimaginable back then.

Testosterone levels in men have declined over time partly because of excessive weight and related health issues, and because some types of exercise can increase testosterone while long-distance endurance activity can lower it. Researchers also report a generational decline that appears even when comparing age-matched groups across years, meaning it’s not just normal aging.

Good! While I’m in favor of a Jewish state, few Holocaust survivors are still alive, and meantime Israel under younger generations has turned into a rogue state that murders doctors, nurses, aid workers, journalists, and children standing in food lines, abuses Palestinians in the occupied West Bank, carries out terrorist attacks, and has territorial ambitions against its neighbors.

Until this shit stops, Israel shouldn’t get one fucking penny from us, because it’s like financing Nazis. I’m sure quite a few Israelis oppose what their government is doing, too, so this isn’t an anti-Israeli thing, it’s an anti-fascist aggression and anti-genocide thing.

Why it matters: The move — a break from past practice for such officers — underscored DNC chair Ken Martin’s sensitivity about the party’s money woes and the persistent criticism about his leadership.
    …
The DNC has nearly $15 million on hand but is $18 million in debt, according to its latest campaign finance filings through the end of May.

Surprised this project is getting to the Rolling Stock ordering phase, but seems like Austin made a good choice, but hope not all of Stadler’s future CITYLINK customers follow the UTA TRAX design they are building for Salt Lake City. That was shortened because the UTA wanted to have up to 4 car trains, but on platforms designed for shorter high-floor LRVs. The interior rendering looks like it’s from the SLC though. Austin isn’t limited by that existing infrastructure, and the European version looks like it could be what Interurbans would be using today if they had survived. Sound Transit is looking at the longer version in future procurement, though.
    https://www.trains.com/pro/passenger/light-rail/austin-selects-stadler-to-build-light-rail-equipment/

Austin Capitol Metro besides sales tax, has an interesting revenue stream. The 160 miles of freight railroad they acquired for future transit use, is a working railroad, owned byCapMetro but operated by short line conglomerate WATCO as Austin Western RR, generates about $6 million a year. Unfortunately with the Lakeview Sub, Sound Transit’s agreement was BNSF got to serve existing customers, and BNSF outsourced that to Tacoma Public Utilities and Tacoma Rail.

Trump appointed Federal judge calls out DOJ in an ICE pleading for citing non-existent case law.

More recently, the Sixth Circuit has reiterated that § 1226(e) bars challenges that
“ask the court to reweigh the evidence underlying a bond decision or second-guess the Immigration Judge’s discretionary judgment.” See Taylor v. Hott, 724 F. App’* 387, 392 (6th Cir. 2018) (district court lacked jurisdiction to review IJ’s bond denial where petitioner challenged flight-risk determination) .

(Gov’t’s Resp. 9, ECF No. 5.) The cited case, Taylor v. Hott, is not located at the identified page of the Federal Appendix. Indeed, page 387 is contained within a different opinion —Atkins v. CGI
Techs. & Sols., Inc., 724 F. App’x 383 (6th Cir. 2018) which is about commercial arbitration, not immigration bond determinations. In its research, the Court was unable to identify a Sixth Circuit case with the caption Taylor v. Hott, or any federal case containing the quoted language.

Thus, it seems this citation was likely produced by generative artificial intelligence (“Al”). N.Y.C. Dep’t of Educ., No. 1:24-cv-04232, 2024 WL 3460049, at *7 (S.D.N.Y. July 18, 2024)). It should be obvious that any attorney who uses Al must scrupulously review its work product to ensure that the cited cases exist and that the citations accurately and fairly represent the underlying case law. The duty of candor towards this tribunal demands no less.

Although the Court will not presently impose sanctions for this conduct, it goes without
saying that the Government must ensure its future filings with this Court do not include non-
    existent case law.

    Wife beater, check.
    Mentally ill, check.
    Hired without background check, check

    some highlights:

Brouillette, 37, told his ex-wife Ashley Brouillette late last year that he had been hired by ICE. She said that because of his long history of psychiatric issues, she thought he was having a mental health episode and she didn’t believe him. She didn’t realize he’d been telling the truth until this week, when videos began circulating online of the moments surrounding the shooting.
    …
hundreds of family court records obtained from the Augusta District Court clerk’s office detail years of allegations of physical and verbal abuse raised by his second ex-wife on behalf of herself and his daughters.
    …
An immediate relative of David Brouillette who spoke on the condition that their name not be used said he was diagnosed with severe bipolar disorder and attention deficit disorder as a child — a diagnosis that Ashley Brouillette confirmed. The immediate relative described him as “extremely mentally ill” and said he attempted suicide twice at age 12 and was hospitalized multiple times.
    …
In late 2025, around the time he joined ICE, his ex-wife Ashley said he left a three-minute voicemail mocking her for taking out a restraining order against him. And all of you should have your f——–g throats cut,” the voicemail said. “Yeah, you should. Am I threatening that I’m gonna do that? Nope. Nope. But do I think that you should have your f——-g throats cuts? Or should have had them cut? Yep.”

(Now wait for the prematurely retired doctor to mutter something about “failed attorney” blah blah …)

White House spokesperson Abigail Jackson: “I saw a tweet yesterday from Olive Garden that in order to take advantage of their never-ending pasta pass, you have to show photo ID. I thought, that’s weird, Olive Garden takes pasta pass security more seriously than Democrats take election security.”

There’s a little known clause on Aticle III, Freedom of EyeTalian food and the 27th Amendment is “When you’re here your family.”

Later today Donnie will try to manipulate the market again by announcing an agreement as all sources of oil push over $80/bbl and average pump prices are tomorrow away from $4/gal again just as Americans last minute cancel the six hour road trip.

Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin went further than President Trump in an address on election security Friday, asserting foreign adversaries could hack voter machines, threatening states that refuse to partner with his department and saying he would use “maximum pressure” to root out any illegally cast votes.

Fuck you, Mark. You have zero authority or jurisdiction over elections. Mind your own goddamned business.

@61 The obvious reason Olive Garden requires ID to use the pasta pass is so people don’t share passes. OG can’t feed the whole world for $100 and stay in business.

There’s no parallel to voting. Ballots can’t be passed around like a pasta card because election officials issue only one ballot per voter registration. Any notion that two or more people might use the same voter registration to vote is fantasy, because voting requires a signature on a poll book or ballot envelope, and only one signed ballot will be counted.

What are they smoking at the White House?

Trump’s “proof” of voting machine vulnerability is a photo of a 1990s video game.

The funny thing about federal immunity is it doesn’t apply to employees of private companies who contract with ICE to run detention facilities. This guy is screwed.

@69 As usual, I need to correct the RNC, because they can’t get anything right.

MODERATOR: “What qualifications do you have to serve in the U.S. Senate?”

Maine Democrat Ashley Webb: “I’m over the age of 30, a U.S. citizen for more than 9 years, and an inhabitant of Maine.”

Those are the ONLY required qualifications to represent Maine in the U.S. Senate. Her suitability is up to Maine’s voters, but by electing Collins multiple times, they’ve shown they’re not finicky.
