On the subject of Aurora Avenue, I think the city policy of looking the other way at prostitution is a bust, and it’s time to run off the prostitutes, pimps, drug dealers, and people shooting at each other. Why stop at the Senate… is Graham Platner a strong 2028 dark house presidential progressive candidate?
Hopefully this doesn’t break any rules, but I’ve been noticing so much energy and excitement around Graham Platner’s Maine Senate campaign, specifically in his unapologetic support for medicare for all, fighting racism, calling out the billionaire class and corruption within both parties, and Palestine.

His style, military/oyster fisherman background, and speaking skills gives me some hope in bringing a Bernie-style progressive to the Senate who might also be able to speak to other members of the working class who might rightly feel neither party is fighting for them.

While it’s incredibly aware for a Senator serving their first term to win a presidential election, do you think a new voice like him could actually drum up enough support to beat out centrist liberals in 2028?

I’ll assume the silly twit meant to write “incredibly rare for a Senator serving their first term to win a presidential election”. It clearly was silly to write this less than a decade after a guy who did it completed his second term in office.

I would also venture to guess that along with their lengthy criminal history, there is a pattern of slap-on-the-wrist punishments (in the name if “equity”, of course) all brought to you by left leaning local officials and lawmakers.

But sure, blame republicans(who do not have any power whatsoever in Seattle, King County, or the state) because a couple of thuggies decided to shoot up Seattle Center.

@49 Your ilk decided to go soft on criminals, and then you desire to blame the other team when those criminals repeatedly do violent shit.

My ilk didn’t pardon hundreds of violent rioters who tried to overthrow our duly elected government or try to hand out taxpayer money to them.

My ilk didn’t give Ashli Babbitt’s family $5 million from taxpayer funds as compensation for her death resulting from criminal activity.

But I will concede that my ilk sometimes gravitates toward rehabilitating irredeemable sociopaths when society’s emphasis should be on confinement; and many among my ilk oppose the death penalty in all circumstances, whereas I think some of those fuckers have it coming.

You must be new here, because you apparently don’t realize this particular rabbit is a hardass toward criminals.

What I blame your ilk for is failing to realize that totally deregulating guns guarantees they’ll end up in the hands of criminals, crazies, and children; and encouraging people to carry guns turns arguments into gunfights and normal social frictions into assaults and killings.

Guns are necessary for self-protection in rural areas where law enforcement is thinly spread and far away. Urban areas require different rules. Cities should be allowed to place reasonable restrictions on guns. One size does not fit all.

I see in today’s news that Bryan Kohberger wants to withdraw his guilty plea and go to trial. Living in maximum security must not agree with him. Probably the food sucks, too.

This is unlikely to go anywhere. He had effective assistance of counsel. He wasn’t coerced into pleading guilty. There’s no reason to believe he’s innocent or the court proceedings were a miscarriage of justice.

And if he does go to trial, he’s likely committing suicide. The jailers can save the legal system the time, expense, and trouble by handing him a bedsheet and looking the other way while he twists it into a rope.

Rabbit seems to think Republican gun policies allowed a 15 year old to legally obtain a firearm(dunno what kind yet) so he could shoot up the food court.

Of course the other suspects have yet to be caught -but all this points to more gang related violence.

Meanwhile, Seattle’s Hug-A-Thug policies have no bearing on this situation – after all, its not “equitable” to have people be responsible for their own actions, now is it?

I hope your hat is tasty, Roger. Because when this is over, you are going to be eating it.

Idaho’s death penalty law changed on July 1, 2026. Now its primary execution method is firing squad. In response, an anti-death penalty group put up a billboard in Boise that says, “Idaho – Don’t shoot Tom Creech!”

    https://idahonews.com/news/local/new-anti-firing-squad-billboard-goes-up-in-boise

Shooting Tom Creech is okay by me, if that’s what Idaho wants to do. He’s no loss to society (details here).

Don’t get me wrong. There is a difference between me and Trump, Doctor Dumbfuck, and their ilk. I don’t rush to judgment. Trump still wanted to execute five innocent black kids even after they were exonerated. The dumbfuck troll habitually pronounces people guilty without trial.

There have been literally dozens or hundreds of death row exonerations, pointing to very serious problems in our criminal justice system, especially in shitholes like Oklahoma (think Richard Glossip). I think lying cops who frame innocent suspects should go to prison and lose their pensions. And I have a huge problem with REPUBLICANS who want to execute women for having abortions.

(Remember when Republicans promised they wouldn’t go after women if abortion was outlawed? They lied.)

I don’t agree with my ilk on everything. I support sparing use of the death penalty for monstrous crimes where there’s no doubt of guilt after a fair trial with full due process. Ted Bundy, John Gacy, Nazi war criminals: Good riddance. Here in Washington: Charles Campbell, good riddance.

There are truly repulsive sociopaths who deserve to be put down, and it’s a perfectly normal human response to feel satisfaction at their elimination.

Washington doesn’t have the death penalty anymore. Our legislature wouldn’t abolish it, but the state supreme court did, finding it was tainted by racial bias (but left the door open to reinstating a reformed death penalty), and later the legislature did abolish it.

The death penalty, as administered in the U.S., has been substantially discredited by racism, a deeply flawed criminal justice system that convicts innocent people, botched executions, and so on. These are compelling reasons to get ratchet way back on executions. And if society can’t do it right, it shouldn’t be done at all.

But there’s no indication that Tom Creech’s death sentence is afflicted with any of these failings. He isn’t innocent, wasn’t railroaded, and has no value to society. If Idaho wants to shoot him, he got it coming to him; and if the families of his many victims take solace from his execution, more power to them.

@62 How fucking stupid can you be? Republican gun policies have saturated our country with guns and made them easy to get.

Canada, England, Scandinavia don’t have our gun violence. There are models to look to for guidance on a better way of doing things.

We don’t have to ban or confiscate guns. Reasonable regulation won’t eliminate gun violence, but can help reduce it. We require a license to drive a car, so why shouldn’t we require a license to carry a gun in public?

Sedona has a population under 10k.

A mid-sized city by US census standards is 100-300k. Seattle is 750k Seattle’s violent crime rate per 100k (which is the way cops and world governments rank crime, not in pure numbers) is 775 which puts it 46th nationwide.

    Seattle is 750k (rounded)

Now if you want to play with cities less than 1m but more than 700k, Seattle is 8 of 11, 12 if you want to round Nashville’s 698k into the group.

That puts it behind such 100-300k mid sized cities like:
    Akron, OH
    Lakewood, CO
    Winstoon-Salem, NC
    Lubbock, TX
    Chattanooga, TN
    Lancaster, CA
    Salt Lake City, UT
    Springfield, MA
    San Bernardino, CA
    Grand Rapids, MI
    And

… wife voluntarily returned with child …

    Say, speaking of voluntary deportations:

Why it matters: Launched last year alongside a multimillion-dollar ad campaign, the initiative is virtually the only carrot in an aggressive immigration crackdown that has been long on sticks.

    • Through July 16, the nearly $600 million program — dubbed Project Homecoming by the Department of Homeland Security — has helped about 132,000 people exit the U.S.
    • Roughly 70,000 more have signed up and are on track to leave, according to the data.
    • About half of the self-deportations have involved immigrants held in detention, under an effort that accelerated the departures and began when a DOGE staffer brought Project Homecoming into ICE facilities.

The big picture: The self-deportation program is a key part of the administration’s push to remove 1 million unauthorized immigrants from the U.S. each year.

And I can’t find my way back hooooommmmmmeeeeeee.

“For the first time, someone walks in and goes, ‘Hey, who here just wants to go home?’ And everybody’s like, ‘I want to go home,'” one source said. “It’s an immediate jump” in detainees seeking deportation.
    • By the numbers: Each self-deportation is costing the government about $2,500, plus the stipend paid to the deportee, DHS says. Removing an immigrant who doesn’t volunteer for deportation costs about $18,245, the agency said.

We’re glad to be of service.

@108 So perhaps the Rabbit can explain how Republicans(via gun laws) are responsible for this.

For the same reason that eliminating traffic laws and traffic cops would result in more accidents.

If you regulate guns, you’ll have fewer guns falling into the wrong hands. By eliminating all regulation of guns, Republicans have contributed to the proliferation of guns in our society, and made their possession, modification, and use harder to control.

By the way, where was the “good guy with a gun”* when this was happening? Not that I’m promoting that idea; the last thing we need at a crowded festival or in a mall is everybody carrying, and then shooting.

    *Tired Republican shibboleth

Guns are regulated, dipshit. Hence why everything I listed was “illegal”

    Dense much?

.wanna know what might have prevented this? Locking up the dead 19 year old gang banger for 30 years instead of revolving his ass in and out of jail with slaps on the hand for his prior crimes. But no, we can’t do that in the name of “equity”

    Enjoy the shootings…..more to come.

Before Republicans sponsored a free-for-all in guns, we didn’t have kids engaging in shootouts at food fairs. You never saw this in the America I grew up in. Now it’s all too common.

You know what his criminal record is? Do tell. Please share.

All I can find on him is police believe he was an “associate” of the 15-year-old, and the shooting was “gang-related.”

I’m all for disarming teen gangs. You got a plan for that? Besides “lock ’em up and throw away the key” after they kill an innocent bystander?

Mass deportations loom and makes HA troll keyboards sticky:

Around Washington, Salvadoran-born crews have helped renovate, rebuild and maintain the Capitol, the Pentagon and Arlington National Cemetery. In senior living facilities in Florida, Massachusetts and New York, Haitian caregivers assist aging Americans with daily activities.

as the clock ticks toward the end of Temporary Protected Status, business organizations, led by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, have mounted a campaign for action on Capitol Hill, joined by a growing number of state and local leaders from both parties.
“Congress can, and should, exercise its plenary authority over immigration policy to prevent significant disruption to America’s work force and avoid an unnecessary humanitarian crisis,” the chamber wrote in a July 10 letter to Senate leadership.

State and local leaders are echoing those concerns. Gov. Mike DeWine of Ohio, a Republican, has called ending T.P.S. for Haitians a “mistake” and predicted a steep economic toll for his state. In South Florida, home to the largest Haitian population, Mayor Daniella Levine Cava and Commissioner Marleine Bastien of Miami-Dade County, along with business leaders, gathered on Wednesday to address the potential fallout.

“Ending T.P.S. doesn’t save American money,” Ms. Bastien said during a news conference. “Ending T.P.S. costs America money.”

Let’s not confuse defunding police with defunding bad police. Some police departments (usually in small towns) are so dysfunctional it’s better to disband them and turn their functions over to county sheriffs or other law enforcement agencies. But in general, it has always been my position that we need police, and instead of fewer or no police, we should approach America’s policing crisis by reforming the recruiting, training, supervision, and discipline of police.

By the way, under Seattle’s new *socialist* mayor, SPD is emerging from its staffing crisis with better retention, fewer officers leaving, more hires, and is heading toward full staffing.

Are there bad cops? Yes, if you believe the state of Florida, which executed James Duckett today for the murder of an 11-year-old girl.

Duckett, a police officer at the time of the murder, always maintained he was innocent. But the state convinced a jury, and a succession of appeals courts, that he abducted the girl from a convenience store while on patrol.

He was at least the fifth ex-cop to be executed for murder in the modern era, according to Wikipedia.

It’s not like a 15-year-old can manufacture a gun in his basement.

Ghost gun, machine gun, illegal gun — it still takes readily available guns and gun parts to make these things.

Republicans have made guns and gun parts readily available to anyone who wants them, including teen gangbangers.

This is an example of bad policing, a bad cop, and someone who either should not get through pre-employment screening, or should be better trained and supervised, or should be expelled from the force in disciplinary proceedings and barred from future police employment.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rzRjvPRzRMY

None of those things are happening under the current system. And this cop isn’t an outlier; lots of others like him are on the streets with badges, guns, and arrest authority. And taxpayers are paying for it, because cops who abuse their badges and authority don’t have to pay the legal judgments and settlements.

As I write, the Tennessee State Patrol is grappling with the fallout from a major false DUI arrest scandal.

I really should be more complimentary of Fauci. The market crash he orchestrated by unnecessarily shutting down the country resulted in many hundreds of thousands of dollars of stock shares put to me pursuant to naked put options positions I had sold, and my margin account went moderately deep into debit mode.

I stood pat and took it, sold additional naked puts and bought some really cheap calls while everything was still tanked, and when market and my shares rocketed back and after recovering the losses kept rocketing upward, I made money hand over fist.

Standing pat according to predetermined plan is what a failed former attorney and perpetual useless, bloviating fool describes as “gambling”.

    Thanks, Tony!

Even the Democrats not born in the US?
