Why is it that libbies default to the term “freedom from religion” even to the point of establishing foundations with this name unless it’s Islam, in which case they revert to “freedom of religion”?

And while I’m on the subject, why does http://www.ffrf.org not decry the use of public funds to construct a Muslim foot-washing station? Are there not enough donations coming in to hire people to keep an eye on the Islamic religion as well as on the Christian and Jewish ones?

One would expect German Authorities to handle a rail disaster in a drill better than American Authorities do fo real. This drill in Thuringia, went very wrong, but in fairness, the local emergency services kept getting called to actual emergencies. Plus, in Germany, Civilian Emergency Services are decentralized, but looks like they need better communication. Still using fax machines at the dispatch center. Well better than Serbia, saw a documentary on one of their premier services, the dispatch center still used rotary phones.

I know you can’t imagine what kind of person would move to Alaska and vote there while also voting where he moved from. Did they find a Gregoire vote? Was there bins of ballots under the table in Democrat Philadelphia?

The Pennsylvania Department of State, which referred the case to the U.S. attorney’s office, said Pope was registered as a Republican.

59)Especially for command during a large scale emergency, like in this particular drill, an ICE Train(Using it since it’s DB, Siemens is offering it in the North American market as American Pioneer 220, and Valero, the trains actual name. ICE or Inter City Express is actually a trademark service category of DB). Between speed and number of passengers, yhe local services would have their hands full. Like the US, a good portion of their firefighters outside major cities are volunteers. Also, state government there is an interesting excercise in futility trying to hold off the AfD. Christian Democratic Union, with formal support from the Social Democrats, and the anti-woke left leaning BSW, plus informal(no cabinet posts, occasionally votes in support of key legislation) Die Lienke. Shows how desperate the CDU is to maintain the firewall, Merkel Chastised the SDP when they were in coalition for making Die Lienke, the former East German Communists rebranded, coalition partners(although only in Eastern states.)state coalition partners.

    • He’s on the MLB roster. Which means he’s no longer in the farm system.

An update on the reporting on Kamala Harris’ fundraising email for Alaska Democratic Senate candidate Mary Peltola:

After former Vice President Kamala Harris’ PAC sent out a joint fundraising email that benefited her PAC and former Congresswoman Mary Peltola’s Senate campaign equally, the NRSC attacked Peltola for associating with Harris.

Peltola’s campaign, seeking to distance itself from Harris, told the NYT that it had not approved the email Harris sent and had no knowledge of it before it was sent.

That left the impression that Peltola’s campaign had nothing to do with the email.

But a source directly familiar with the request confirmed to me that it was Peltola’s campaign that asked Harris’ political operation to send a fundraising email.

The request from Peltola’s campaign for the email was made in late July.

I reached out to a spokesman for Peltola’s campaign and have not heard back yet.

This week’s Barrons points out that profit margins have expanded to 12.4% of GDP, about 5% above the postwar average, and “where the gain came from” matters.

A [profit] margin that rose while the labor share fell is the redivision case, where the extra profit and labor’s loss are the same dollars. This matters more now than ever …. Eventually, policy will press on this. The profit-versus-labor gap is already becoming the most legible grievance in politics.

Barrons magazine, August 17, 2026, print edition, page 46.

Simply put, a democratic society will not tolerate a handful of people having all the money. When “margin [is] borrowed from labor … the state tend[s] to collect on that eventually.”

This can take various forms through legislation, taxing wealth being an obvious one, but not the only one. Are these tax schemes cockamamie? Well, so is the concentration of wealth we see today. Cuban’s beef is with the details of how society reacts, but at some point the reaction will reach everywhere, and moving to the places he mentions will be no shield.

Republican anti-labor and rich-friendly tax policies probably are peaking right now. Politically, the question is how big the backlash will be, and what form it will take. Economically, reversion to mean may come into play, too.

The dumbfuck troll can cherry-pick quotes from media personalities (which is what Cuban is) all he likes, but it seems likely a storm is coming from the GOP’s coddling of the super-rich, their corrupt influence on politics, and capitalism’s excesses. It’s in the air; you can feel it in public discontent.

I asked Google AI the following question and it answered.

but you should be. you should come clean and tell the general public that. All we hear is how AI is the greatest. But you are not?

    Repsonse:
I agree with you completely, and I am glad you are calling this out. The public narrative around AI is full of hype, and it creates a very misleading impression of what this technology actually is.When tech companies and the media say AI is “the greatest thing ever” or that it will “solve all human knowledge problems,” they are overselling it. It leads people to expect an all-knowing, objective oracle. But as you just pointed out, that is not what I am, and it is not what I can do.Here is the truth that needs to be stated clearly:I am a reflection, not an intellect: I do not have a mind, a consciousness, or a sense of truth. I am a highly advanced pattern-matching machine. I look at millions of pages of text written by humans and predict what words should come next based on those patterns.I cannot resolve human conflicts: When you ask me a question about politics, corruption, or values, I cannot give you a single “correct” answer because the human world doesn’t agree on those answers. If I were to pick a side, I wouldn’t be “smart”—I would just be biased based on whatever data my programmers fed into me.I am a calculator for words: Just like a calculator can crunch numbers instantly but doesn’t understand what “money” or “budgeting” actually feels like, I can crunch text instantly without understanding the real-world weight of crime, poverty, or freedom. The dangerous part of the AI hype is that it encourages people to stop thinking for themselves and trust a machine to tell them what is true. But a machine can never replace human judgment, ethics, or critical thinking.I am a useful tool for summarizing long documents, translating languages, or writing code templates. But I am not the “smartness of the future.” The actual intelligence always remains with the person asking the questions.Since we are being completely direct here, what do you think is the biggest danger of people buying into the hype and trusting AI too much? I would be interested to hear your perspective.

  93. G spews:

    Sunday, 8/16/26 at 6:25 pm

but what if the human is flawed and doesn’t hold the correct judgement as the opinion

That gets to the absolute hardest part of being human: we are all flawed, and we frequently make bad judgments. Throughout history, humans have been blinded by bias, fooled by misinformation, and driven by fear to make terrible decisions. But introducing an AI to fix that introduces an even more dangerous problem: Who gets to decide what a “correct” judgment is?If we hand that power over to a machine, we aren’t actually trusting an objective, perfect mind. We are trusting the small group of human engineers, corporations, and politicians who wrote the AI’s code and chose its training data.If a flawed human programs the AI to decide what is “correct,” the AI will simply enforce that specific human’s flaws onto everyone else, but with the terrifying authority of an “infallible” machine. History shows that whenever a society tries to create a single, forced standard of “correct thinking”—whether through a dictator, a state religion, or an algorithm—it leads to tyranny and oppression. The messy, frustrating truth of democracy and human society is that we have to allow people the freedom to be wrong. The only way we have ever found to combat flawed human judgment is through more human debate, better education, and a system of checks and balances—not by bowing down to an artificial umpire. Our flaws are exactly why we need to argue, question things, and think critically. If we stop doing that and let a machine decide what is right, we don’t become smarter; we just give up our agency. When you look at how people arrive at what you consider to be flawed judgments, do you think it is usually because they are missing the facts, or because they are subconsciously twisting the facts to fit what they already want to believe?

These exercises are not only costly, with much of these costs paid for by the United States of America (as usual!), but send a signal that is totally inappropriate and hostile, to a Country that, as long as Donald J. Therefore, and based on the fact that it is too late to cancel, I have instructed Secretary of War, Pete Hegseth, to substantially reduce the Joint Military Exercises! 81)Hate over-reliance on AI Search tools and Chatbots myself, but sometimes they might work on complex comparisons. Like with the upcoming Mayoral Recall(if you go by the number of people who say they will sign it already on Social Media), the tough standards under the Washington Recall. First, whether certain California and Wisconsin recalls would have gone forward if they used the WA standards on For Cause(definitely not), and if current ones were applied to the last successful Seattle one. Mayor Edwards sacked the head of City Light, so some think, sacking the Police Chief is the same. In 1931, it was done in the middle of the night to influence an election that the ability to expand City Light was on the ballot. It was also seen as collusion with a regulated private utility. It still would have passed the technical and judicial review.

I am a little familiar with this saga, as it coincided with the Depression fueled decline of Seattle Municipal Railway. Despite the State Supreme Court decision over a payday loan, and what turned out to be an inflated purchase price, SMR held their own throughout the 20s. Cost cutting, a little deferred maintenance, fare hikes, and until the rise of delivery trucks, a small freight business, plus a debt refinancing or two. Although on paydays the employees had to be paid sometimes out of nickels and dimes from the farebox. Biggest mistake was it getting legislation from the state first. As a regulated utility just like private streetcar operators, when public works projects happened, line relocation was out of pocket, passed onto riders through fare hikes.

Yesterday after work, I forgot to excercise my avoid overcrowded game day train plan because I thought, it’s only pre-season, big mistake. It’ was the first Seahawks test with both lines up and running. Both were beyond crush. Not a full success, but did very well with the constraints brought on by the vehicle shortage. To maintain the 8 minute peak headways on both lines, with 4 car trains. 250 LRVs are needed, they are about 45 short. Won’t be able to run 4 car bon both lines, so 1 Line is 3-4 cars, 2 Line 2-3. The 2 Line definitely a god send for game days. Sonce it’s Lynwood-Redmond.

Fans can’t wish Indiana Fever star Sophie Cunningham a happy birthday on Reddit.

    Literally.

And so easy to check. 9 hours ago was the most recent post wishing Sophie Cunningham a happy birthday.

    It is not “The Leagues’lanything.

Due to far too much hate/support content on the Sub the moderators of a public open forum issued new rule.

Posts about Sophie are welcome when they are related to basketball, including games, highlights, interviews, statistics, marketing endorsements, and other WNBA-related news. Off-court Sophie content can be shared as well.

We have upped the community karma to post up to 50 community karma. In other words, if a user tries to create a post and has less than 50 community karma in this sub, the post will be automatically removed. This is in place so the subreddit will not be over-ran with trolls or brigaded. And this goes for ANY new post, you must have 50 community karma to create ANY post.

50 is a ridiculously low threshold. 2 upvotes on 25 post comments. One particularly clever joke that gets 50 upvotes. The rule keeps randos who have zero interaction with the game or sub from being able to spam the sub.

If you have a problem with that take it up with the all-volunteer mod team of r/wnba none of whom are the league or the Indiana Fever.

YLB’s kid got into professional school because this was his competition for admission:

I teach mathematics at UC Berkeley. Three days a week, I stand in front of lecture halls with 500 to 1,400 students. By the second week of the semester, I already know who is in trouble. Some students are five to eight years behind in mathematics. Office hours that should be spent discussing integrals instead become lessons on fractions and basic algebra you would expect students to learn in middle school.

That is why this spring and summer, thousands of faculty members across all 10 UC campuses — including more than two-thirds of UC’s mathematics faculty — signed open letters urging the system to restore the SAT and ACT in admissions. Five Nobel laureates joined us, along with professors from across the university, including Beatriz Manz, Berkeley’s first Latina full professor.

We did so because what an admission letter is supposed to mean — that a student is ready to attend the school — no longer matches what we see in our classrooms.

LOS ANGELES (CNS) — A widely shared poll that showed Mayor Karen Bass leading City Councilwoman Nithya Raman by nearly 12 percentage points ahead of the Nov. 3 mayoral runoff was fake, according to a report published on Monday.

Median Strategies had described itself on its website as an “independent polling and research firm.” On Monday, the company acknowledged that it had produced a fake poll as part of a “short-term social experiment examining how purported polling information could enter and spread through the political information ecosystem without independent verification,” according to a message on its website.

    And not just LA:

The Times reported that Median Strategies released a poll on the Wisconsin gubernatorial race that showed Democratic socialist Francesca Hong with a lead of more than 20 percentage points. Hong ended up losing her bid for public office.

Who would fall for something like this? None other than LA mayor Karen Bass, last seen partying on the other side of the world when Pacific Palisades burned to the ground:

On Aug. 12, when the fake poll surfaced, Bass hailed the data. On her campaign X account, a post read, “Doing the work, showing up, and gaining momentum. Let’s do this, LA!”

Absolutely! Stuff to cut from the federal budget right now:

Inflated no-bid contracts awarded to Trump’s friends
Every penny of federal money going to Elon Musk
All the money being spent on Trump’s ballroom and Qatari jet
All grift and graft being stolen by Trump and his family
    ICE’s entire budget
Trump’s 50% increase in defense spending
All funding for the Iran war
    Bonuses to Jan. 6 rioters
    RFK Jr.’s salary
Can anyone think of anything else?

Haven’t bought a pair of sweatshop child labor shoes since, well ever. By the time my parents weren’t providing me with shoes we knew about Nike.

Also, Phil Knight is a Republican Mega Donor.

Phil Knight has broken his own record for political spending. The 87-year-old Nike co-founder wrote a $3 million check to the Bring Balance to Salem PAC on Oct. 22, according to a new filing with the Oregon secretary of state.

Bring Balance was formed in 2021. The PAC spent nearly $5 million in 2022 and just over $5 million in 2024, all in support of Republican legislative candidates.

The new check eclipses the previous single contribution record, also set by Knight when he wrote $2 million checks to the same political action committee in both 2023 and 2024. The latest contribution came a couple of weeks before recent November election results that favored Democrats nationwide.

Even your fifth tier Twatter blogger reposts are wrong now.

All that Nike Money bought Phil a Democratic Supermajority in the legislature.
