    It stood empty for months after it changed hands. And then the older couple whose kids bought it for them starting showing up on the weekends and then they went to China..

    for six months. It stood empty. They asked us to keep an eye on it. We parked in their driveway.

    When they came back after the Chinese New Year, they gave us some fancy tea in a nice package.

    They’re ok. Not the worst neighbors by any stretch. The property is clearly just a place to park cash or bide their time until the adjoining rental property goes up for sale which is owned by an elderly couple. They do keep it up – when they’re there.

    The rental house down the street is clearly being groomed for redevelopment though. The owner (Chinese, yes dumbfuck) hired a freaking architect to push a permit to take down a large tree. Apparently the architect is on a retainer of sorts to oversee the owners’ various real estate projects. The project in my neighborhood won’t go ahead unless the owner can take over an adjoining property which is owned by yet another retired couple.

    Permanent residency can be revoked under certain circumstances, but not arbitrarily, so it sounds like he’s entitled to a hearing before an immigration judge, and the government will have to prove he either committed visa fraud or a crime.

    Of course, this administration isn’t a big believer in rule of law, and is perfectly capable of framing people they don’t like, or trying to fire immigration judges whose rulings they don’t like. Maybe they’re even capable of deporting the guy without due process of any kind; or, if they can’t do that, keeping him in ICE detention indefinitely.
