Up in BC, the Premier just called a Snap election, the Conservative Leader whose party nearly won in 2024, has said Ebey will regret it. Well, it does look like political opportunism to call a Snap Election because the BC Conservatives are in dissaray, several MLAs have broken off to form their own parties. Good news, is the election will be over before our midterms. Election campaigns in BC are short, about 25 days from the Premier going to Government House to ask for the dissolution to voting day. Counting may still be going on by the time November comes around. Elections BC doesn’t usually count mail ins until two-weeks later to make sure nobody who did also voted in person.

I contend there are two types of inflation: Monetary inflation, and real inflation. The latter occurs due to increasing scarcity and higher extraction costs of a resource.
For example, let’s say you deplete all the oil that cost only $10 a barrel to extract, and now have to spend $50 to extract a barrel of oil. This certainly is going to have an inflationary impact on the economy’s energy costs. But it did not result from any change in money supply, monetary policy, or government action.
Similar non-monetary inflation could occur if a resource is exhausted and is replaced by substitutes that consume more resources of capital, labor, and effort for each unit of production.
It seems so obvious to me that you can have non-monetary inflation that I’m surprised Friedman missed the point.
