    The car company Volkswagen has approved controversial plans to shed 100,000 jobs in a battle for survival as it faces fierce competition from Chinese rivals.

    After the latest round of talks this week, the company announced a further 50,000 job cuts and agreed a staggered end to current production at four German plants: Emden, Zwickau, Hanover and the Audi site in Neckarsulm between 2031 to 2034. There are no specific plans beyond that.

    The agreement came as a surprise after a meeting of shareholders, unions, and state representatives on the supervisory board in what was seen as a considerable test for the German carmaker’s chief executive, Oliver Blume.

    It’s well established that the best predicter of financial success in life is who your parents are. This phenomenon is often referred to as the “birth lottery.”

    I’m not saying work ethic is bad. It’s not. It’s a character trait even if financially unrewarding. But the notion of “work hard and you’ll prosper” is a myth peddled by the owning class to get worker bees to work harder. Plenty of people who work hard are rewarded with minimum wage and poverty.

    El Sayed is speaking to these people. He knows Republicans have nothing to offer them except take-aways: Take away health care, food stamps, day care assistance. He wants to make sure they know that, because many of them fall for Republican culture war b.s. and vote against their self-interest. The culture wars are designed to persuade them to vote against their own best interests.

    You want to preach about hard work? I’ll tell you who works hard. Janitors, nursing home attendants, fast food workers, roofers, garbage collectors, the kind of people who need unions.

    I’ll tell you who doesn’t work hard: Rich guys who spend more time on the golf course than in the office, who make their money from collecting rents or flipping stocks. People and rabbits like you and me who do no productive work and enjoy the capitalist lifestyle as the expense of the worker bees who create all the wealth.

    Public event, gang members aren’t what most people think of as foodies, multiple victims. Then they left that out there for quite a while until media started getting unconfirmed reports and then they let out that it was likely gang related.

    There were plenty of citizens who jumped to terror conclusions. Islamic Center of San Diego was just three months before Bite.
