    There’s a local NFL radio host whose jackassery during the week is well documented.

    Now I haven’t watched or paid much attention to the NFL in about three years. For several years before that I was feeling about the same as I did toward boxing in my 20s. I watched but knowing there were women beaters making millions and loved by other fans was a problem. Hiding the danger of concussions and fighting in court to not cover veteran players medical issues from playing days was a problem.

    He allegedly opened fire at about 5:30 p.m. on Thursday while aiming at a 32-year-old man, according to the report.

    In serious irony the memorial service in the church was for an individual shot and killed during the week.

    EVANSVILLE — A woman was shot in the face by a stray bullet after a shooting in the parking lot of Memorial Baptist Church Friday afternoon during the memorial service for Antonio Bushrod, 25, at the church.

    Witnesses told police a fight began in the parking lot after a funeral service at the church, and it quickly escalated into gunfire. According to his obituary, Bushrod’s funeral service was being held at Memorial at that time.

    I just finished a great book by an Oxford historian named Peter Frankopan. The book is called “The Silk Road,” and it’s quite good at explaining how messed up things have been since the victorious British and French made a total mess out of the old Ottoman Empire after WWI.
