It was very interesting when there was serious discussion in the White House about dropping Joe Biden from the 2012 ticket, too. Remember that?
The point of having people around the president with whom he can consult in confidence is so that ideas originating from the president aren’t implemented without discussion and, when appropriate, pushback.
So if it’s true that Trump wanted Mueller fired and if it’s correct that Mueller still in place is the right thing for the country, then the system worked.

Despite the Tweet-pleading and other routine public lies, Fuckface obviously understands that his greatest legal peril resides in his conversations with Comey before firing him for the purpose of shutting down the investigation into Flynn. I think Dowd’s role on the defense team is to steer Fuckface, using his insecurities and fears. So Dowd may not have instructed Fuckface to lead a smear campaign against top FBI officials as corroborating witnesses for Comey. But he was probably confident in how Fuckface would react once he understood the threat that corroborating testimony would represent.

Conservatives often scoff at advocates of corporate social responsibility, arguing a company’s sole responsibility is to make money for its shareholders. This comes up a lot, for example, in connection with shareholder resolutions but also appears in political debates. Typical of this viewpoint is this reader letter in the Jan. 29, 2018 Barron’s magazine:
“Companies make a positive contribution when they allocate investor capital to profitably serve their target markets with customer-perceived high-value products and services. It is not their role to satisfy a progressive goal such as social justice.”
I don’t really disagree; but then who is to protect the non-monetary values important to society as a whole? This is government’s role. If you’re going to argue that CEOS should think only about making money, then you’ve got to accept government regulation of business, and the debate should be about what’s regulated and how much.

In the early 1900s, the Van Sweringen brothers were sorta the Koch brothers of their time. The big thing then was railroads, and the Vans (as they were known) controlled the Erie, Chesapeake & Ohio, Nickel Plate, and several other railroads. At their peak, they were worth $3 billion in 1929 dollars (about $53 billion today), which made them collectively roughly as rich as Mark Zuckerberg, or individually about as rich as the members of the Walton family, and half as rich as each Koch brother. But the whole thing was a house of cards, which came crashing down in the 1929 crash and the depression that followed, and they died penniless. Neither lived beyond their mid-50s.
The Van Sweringen brothers were strange ducks. According to Wikipedia,
“Neither brother married; the two shared a common bedroom in their 54-room mansion … they seldom gave interviews or made appearances in public; however, when they did, it was always together.”
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Van_Sweringen_brothers
The Kochs don’t have that kind of relationship, if you want to call it that; they live in different states, have wives, and as far as I know they don’t ass-fuck each other. I’m not saying the Van Sweringen brothers did, either; in fact, that thought never even entered my mind. After all, they were brothers.

“This is based on an ‘academic’ study which severely misrepresents what happened in 2005.”
Clifton writes that during the last repatriation tax holiday, companies voluntarily returned $300 billion of cash back to the US. And share repurchases in total for 2005 were $150 billion.
“Even if every share repurchase was from repatriation (which is an absurd starting point), you get 50%” he writes. “More than $30 billion of that was from a special Microsoft (MSFT) share repurchase announced the previous year, long before repatriation was even a legislative possibility. It’s nearly impossible to make the math work that 90% was used for share repurchases and dividends.”

@57 “Roger Dumbfuck Rabbit recommended GE”
Nice try. I told you to SHORT it, but you didn’t, and now you’re reduced to lying about what I said. I see you’re comparing dicks again, too:
You: VAR, P/E 97, yield 0, last trade $129.46, +16.5% since Jan. 1.
Me: ABBV, P/E 37, yield 2.8%, last trade $123.21, +28.3% since Jan. 1.
Whatever.
Roger Rabbit spews:
Challenging a rabbit to a dick contest might not be a real good idea if your dick is smaller than the rabbit’s dick. But what can you expect from a dumbfuck.
WTF? spews:
The demise of GE were those high CT taxes. Good thing they moved to Boston, just in a lick of time.
Roger Rabbit spews:
The latest poll shows roughly 34-35 percent still think Trump is “honest” and “trustworthy.” Makes you wonder what the hell is wrong with those people.

While technically I think some of the concerns over Net Neutrality are overblown. I would like it if the US Post Office were providing folks internet access as an alternative to commercial ISP’s, and this would make the post office more viable, and be well within the mission of the post office.
Will Washington State do what Montana has done. I wonder because of a certain company in Washington State. It’s based east of Seattle.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8l4C1m_19zE
The FCC did put language in that supposedly prevents states from doing this while also encouraging states to experiment. Montana might get sued. Then again it’s Montana. Not as much money involved as in New York.
Mark Adams spews:
@24 Looks like the Sheriff’s office is stretching the findings so they have one accident to point at across the nation to point at with THC being involved. Looks like speed and the inexperience of the driver are the main factors. The driver may not have been high at the time, but merely a user of marijuana.

Mark Adams spews:
@28 He may be having to contribute that money he would have contributed to Goldie to the county and state if they have done their audit thing in the past 60 days. And like 50 cent there is no guarantee he would actually realize that $60,000 increase, and like 50 cent he may take a loss. And you can’t expect him to share his largess until he receives it by selling the property. Ie no sale, no money to give to HA.
And if one is going to give then he may take into account the value of what the folks in charge are contributing. Seems the DCCC should have some extra funds to send HA’s way as it is not going to progressive or liberal candidates.
Roger Rabbit spews:
Fucking communists. But what else can you expect from Putin lovers?
“[O]fficials in the Trump administration are looking at options where the U.S. government could take over a part of the country’s mobile network …. The move, according to Axios, could see an unprecedented nationalization of infrastructure that has historically been privately-owned.”

“Wells Fargo’s head of interest rate strategy … anticipates the Treasury Department will … announce … a ‘pretty significant change’ in the way it issues bonds … just as the Fed is shrinking its balance sheet. With less demand coming from the Fed, a fire sale of sorts would increase supply and emerge as the major catalyst causing yields to jump.”

Roger Rabbit Commentary: You should be able to see where this is going. Because Republicans are unwilling to cut defense, they have to finance their tax cuts for the rich by flooding the market with newly issued Treasuries, which will push up interests rates and choke off the growth they promised as a rationalization of the rich.
The rich still get their tax cuts, but you don’t get more or better paying jobs. All you get is higher interest rates on your loans. So the rich are getting paid double: Lower taxes, and as the nation’s landlords and loan sharks, they make higher interest income from you. Of course, this was planned from the beginning.

@37 I think the issue is one that wall street and Corporatists have managed to win on. It’s not a pure conservative/liberal issue. A series of court decisions has created this current view of corporations, and that they exist only to produce a profit for shareholders. This argument is a state by state issues. In some rare states the corporation is much more the creature of the state under control of the state, than in others. Most states have for decades been of the views that RR espouses here. Yet all have statutes on the books that state corporations are creations of the state, usually under control of the Secretary of State, and/or the legislature and can be dissolved by she Secretary and/or the legislature. The problem is political bodies unwilling to enforce the power of the state over corporations. It would be fun if our legislature would from time to time exercise it’s power over corporations here, though they might have to more of a professional and year round legislature to do that.
Corporations ultimately are creations of the state, We the people control the state, therefore corporations should take that into account, and that goes against the pure profit theory which is current. Frankly if Boeing reneges on agreements with the state, then the state ought to pull the corporations leash by simply stating the organization can be dissolved. That simple thing would a lot of political moxie, but that is why we vote people into office or not isn’t it, but hey corporate Dems will keep us safe?
Mark Adams spews:
@38 No just insert Fidel Castro for both of them.
Mark Adams spews:
@65 Nothing is wrong with those people. It’s normal American politics. A similar number of Americans support Hilliary Clinton through thick or thin Or President Obama though he is off the field, unless he runs for Congress or gets on the Supreme Court, not likely until a Dem is in the WH and needs to muzzle the former President. Who may turn down such an appointment for that reason. Though the reason will be something else like President Obama’s further endeavors to promote world peace.
Elijah Dominic McDotcom spews:
Not right now. But we will once again. And probably sooner rather than later. We just have to seize it back from the traitors who are trying to sell it to a shirtless commie dictator.
Maybe that’s the beauty of our Founder’s system. Putin has managed to install his puppets and rent control for a couple of years. But try as they might, Republicans will probably fail in trying to sell America to Putin.
Elijah Dominic McDotcom spews:
You’re lying again.
It has never been normal in American politics to openly and enthusiastically invite an enemy nation to intervene in our elections in exchange for personal gain.
That’s normal only in Roypublican politics. Along with fucking around behind your wife’s back with porny ladies, finger rape, calling half the world “Shitholes”, burning crosses, wearing white sheets and hoods, and driving cars into peaceful protesters marching with permits on closed streets.

Mark Adams spews:
@74 I was referring to the State of Washington or if you would like insert your state. When it comes to the creation, feeding and ending of corporations it’s not a power the states gave to the Federal government. And this is not a red state or blue state issue. Red state legislators are as likely or unlikely to want a role in governing corporations in their state as blue, or choose to play no role as in Washington no matter which party is in control of our state house.
Mark Adams spews:
@75 No you are lying. And are ignorant of political theory or political reality. You are however a manipulative asshole.
I can show historically at least 1/3 of the people supported any given President. And usually a 1/3 opposed any given President. Even Nixon had at least a third of the public fully supporting him and were very disappointed that he resigned.
And you have yet to give any proof that the Russians stole the election in any way. It appears the Russians did their normal shanigans and the American voters shrugged and went about their business as usual. It’s time for you and other Dems of your ilk to stop crying into your beer. It’s done, over, you lost. Accept it. Donald Trump is president and will be until at least January 2021 unless he dies or quits. He is not there because of Putin. Unless you like him being there or you believe your bullshit then prepare for another 4 years of him, and perhaps VP Pence afterwards, because you are not doing anything that will actually persuade the American voter to change horses in the next election. And Trump will have the advantage of being the incumbent, and he’s going to woo black voters, maybe not successfully, but enough that it will cause headaches for the Democratic party. When he tells black voters the Democratic power brokers think Dreamers are more important than you, and they don’t care about your dreams. He is going to try to ask black voters to join him in the success of America. It may not work, but if you want to engage in this Russian BS you aren’t goin got be ready for the next election.
Mark Adams spews:
Of course the Climate Change doom maybe exaggerated.
Or why wouldn’t at least western Washingtonians want a better climate by the burning of fossil fuels. If Washingtonian legislators and Governor are betting on the wrong horse, then the state could go Republican.

77,
You should feel manipulated.
You and 63 million other Roypublican meat bags got conned by 5 million FSB bot accounts.
Elijah Dominic McDotcom spews:
Understand Shortbus, I dont claim the Russians “stole” anything.
But you and the rest of the Trumpanzees will eventually have to face the inescapable truth that you got conned by a fundamentally corrupt and disloyal fiend and his Russian business partners.
It was too damned easy. So easy that, in fact, there’s no good reason to think it can’t happen again and again as long as you and the rest of the Dunning-Kruger party exist.
EvergreenRailfan spews:
In ontario, the Progressive Conservative Party has not had a good week. First the leader, who most likely would have been Premier later this year, resigned when harassment allegations surfaced. Now it looks like their servers and database have been hacked. Seems familiar. This is anot election year in Ontario, with both provincial and municipal elections due. The PC’s have a good chance this year.

China just got more aggressive toward Taiwan.

Roger Rabbit Commentary: I wonder if they’re emboldened by a perception that Trump is turning America inward, and therefore they can get away with a more assertive posture in Asia? Trump’s neo-isolationism would seem to invite that.
