Server issues

by Darryl — Thursday, 12/8/11, 9:29 am

HA was down for a little over an hour this morning.

I called Goldy and caught him in front of the U.S. Capitol, on his way to John Boehner’s office. He was pretty sure he’d been paying the ISP bills.

There was no evidence of a denial-of-service attack. A few minutes after submitting a trouble ticket to the ISP, the site returned.

In absence of any other obvious cause, I blame Carl Ballard.

Update: Oops. I was going to post something this morning before the server issue distracted me. As SJ points out in the comment thread, there is an extraordinary opportunity tomorrow evening when Sen. Maria Cantwell and Elizabeth Warren headline a reception titled, Fighting for Main Street. Admission is $40 at the Paramount Theater.

Corzine: ‘I simply do not know’ where MF Global Money Is

Former MF Global chief executive Jon Corzine apologized “to all those affected” by the brokerage’s collapse Thursday as he prepared to tell a congressional committee he doesn’t know what happened to $1.2 billion in missing customer funds.

Maybe I’ve got this all wrong, but I can’t help but think that if I “lost” $1.2 worth of other people’s money I’d be in jail right now.

No you wouldn’t. You’d be sanctified in the press as a free market, bootstrappy messiah. A primary example of the American Dream® at work.

Ayn Rand would claw her way out of her grave to fellatiate your dog and hand feed you strawberries and champagne.

I bet you could even get on Leno.

I was getting a scary warning message not having my password that made me worry about worms. Good to know it was just a kind of server outage.

Since HA has not posted this, may I suggest that folks here cough up $40 for the reception Friday night for Maria Cantwell and Elizabeth Warren? This is a great chance to meet two people at the forefront of the push for reform of Wall Street!

@5 “Ayn Rand would claw her way out of her grave to fellatiate your dog”

No she wouldn’t. She’d say it was your dog’s responsibility to fellate himself…which he’s perfectly capable of anyway.

I’m prety sure you meant to say fellate, but I think I like your word better.

My spell checker thingy didn’t know what to do with that.

Years ago my brother and his oldest boy, bout 11 at the time were sitting in the back yard drinking beers and watching the BBQ smoke and not doing much else. Brothers cat was licking his ass and whatnot. My brother said something like: “I wish I could do that”.
    Kid started giggling.
I looked over and said: “Shit, he’d probably try to claw your eyes out if you tried”.

I have never heard my nephew laugh so hard since.

    @ 15

Thats a cool vid. I had heard New York City was making some interesting changes along those lines but I never heard the name of the person cracking the whip on it before.

I’ve always wondered why so much space is used for vehicles in the same grid pattern Cities were first laid out by the Romans. I wonder what one could do, designing a city from the ground up and developing a whole new paradigm? Include personal vehicles but create entire dedicated pedestrian and bicycle thoroughfares. Elevated maybe.

It occurs to me that motor fuels are going to hit another spike, they way it did a few years ago, and it’ll become automatic.

    Sigh.

    Go Elizabeth!!!

Warren is now leading Brown, a pretty popular incumbent, by seven points. The race is still a muddy picture, with major ad spending on all sides and both candidates have been bloodied. But there’s one sign that, despite its spin, Crossroads doesn’t think its Harvard Harpy ad campaign had the desired effect: It’s completely flipped the script. Here’s the latest TV spot:

the notable thing about the Crossroads ad is that it is exactly the argument Warren has been making against Brown, whom she has dubbed “Wall Street’s Favorite Senator.” (Also a somewhat dubious contention, but let’s leave that aside for now.) And because Crossroads’ ads are ostensibly supposed to be issues-based under campaign finance rules, not about the candidates themselves, there’s an even greater irony. Republicans don’t frequently argue that banks “helped cause the financial meltdown.” Their official position has long been that it was government lending policies and the mortgage giants Fannie and Freddie that caused the crisis. So as an “issues” ad, this borders on a Democratic sop*. I guess if you can’t beat ‘em, you join ‘em.
