    When Trump broke with decades of Republican backing for a vigorously interventionist foreign policy they didn’t care.

    When he exploded the deficit by giving massive tax cuts to corporations and billionaires they didn’t care.

    When he reversed a century of Republican opposition to tariffs they went along with it.

    When he aggressively attacked mainstream fellow Republicans like Senator John McCain, Mitt Romney, and the entire Bush and Cheney families Republicans sang along.

    But when finally, belatedly, having recognized how deeply unpopular the Republican crusade to ban abortion was, Trump attempted two weeks ago to make a small course correction and steer away from total abortion bans, the party rose up in mass outrage and extracted a reversal and effectively an apology from Trump in less than 24 hours.

    Other than mass deportation of all immigrants, I can’t think of any Republican priority that can match that. And it’s the best way to know for an absolute certainty that there will be no nuance from a Trump or any other Republican White House when it comes to women’s right to make decisions about their own bodies. When it comes to their decades long crusade to gain government control over women’s bodies Republicans will do it all and they will do whatever it takes. And they will never change course or consider compromise.

Different polls all over the map, the quality of surveys varies greatly, and polling in general is less accurate now, because phone surveys only reach people willing to answer an unfamiliar number on caller ID and that’s not many people anymore. The proliferation of push-polls many people reluctant to talk to surveyors. So the only people participate in polls, which keeps shrinking. Polls also undercount the Trump vote, because some Trumpers won’t admit they’re Trumpers, and either lie to the pollster or give a non-answer. I think we can fairly safely assume it’s going to be a close race and Trump won’t accept the result if he loses.
