    I don’t think it’s so much that it’s a “gotcha” question as that it’s a question framed entirely from a white racist perspective. It presumes as a given that the mixed racial or ethnic heritage of any non-white person requires thorough interrogation before it can be “trusted”.

    And how people react to her refusal to stipulate to that underlying racist premise is revealing about how those people understand race. If someone goes through the world, as the 💩🧌Scotty P does, “un-woke” and operating as if “whiteness” is the default standard for race, then refusing to adopt that racist framing seems very suspicious and untrustworthy.

    It’s a wisely calculated choice on Vice President Harris’s part. It acknowledges that there will be some white undecided voters who will be alienated by her refusal. But it also concedes that these are people who will not vote for a Black woman. Granting credibility to a media question framed in such purely white racist terms does her no good and would only serve to reinforce a white racist negative framing of her. Refusing to answer it does her no harm and signals her unity and identity with everyone who has ever suffered at the hands of bigots, racists, misogynists, and other weirdos.

    Partisan purity alienates moderate undecided voters and drives mistrust. Telling them she will bring Republican voices into her administration and be “a President for all Americans” gives them the reassurance and permission structure they need.     Been hoping for Metro to do some kind of battery upgrade on the trolleybus fleet. The batteries on the 4300 and 4500 series are designed for short off wire detours, and drivers aren’t supposed to use them unless instructed. The contract recently announced looks like more than a replacement, but will also be a range boost.

    One thing that could see the more efficient batteries used for, a shortcut on deadhead moves. Yesterday I left early for the 1 Line extension opening, and headed for Mt Baker Station, and saw the long line of trolleybuses on art 7 going down Rainier headed for the turnaround point in Rainier Beach. I could see if they had a better battery, a few could detour over the 36 wire and do a battery operation down Othello to Rainier. Although since it’s downhill, maybe don’t need a battery l When I worked early mornings, took the old 7-OWL to work, and would see the first batch of southbound 7s, not as many then, the frequency was only every 10 minutes, vs every 7.5 now.

    Extended Battery option may allow for the end of weekend shutdowns of the network, due to construction. Currently the pace of various construction sites requires the whole network to be replaced with hybrids, even if the route is unaffected itself, as it’s not just the overhead wire segments shut down with running jumps(special kind of jumper cable used to block current), but the nearby substation. Right now thanks to G line construction disrupting the 2 and 13’s First/Capitol Hill segment has those two routes using diesels, and probably giving mechanics at Ryerson/Central extra work, as these two routes serve Queen Anne Ave, the route that pretty much made Seattle one of the cities that didn’t totally eliminate this mode. They aren’t scheduled to return to trolley operations until next year, as some wire connections need to be restored.

    Then there is the potential use for expansion of the trolley bus network itself with the In Motion Chargers. While Rt 70 is dieselized for RapidRide construction (unlike Madison RapidRide, this dieselization is temporary), there are a couple 4500s(articulated) not assigned, I would use them to begin the conversion of the 48 to trolley operations, there are 4 wire gaps on this bus route, the layover bay at Mt Baker TC(when the bus area at Mt Baker Station was built, electrifying the 48 was a pipe dream, not policy), on 23rd Ave between Rainier and Dearborn, and between E Cherry and E John St, plus the Montlake Gap between the Montlake Branch Library and Husky Stadium. The latter the wire was removed for highway 520 lid construction. It’s currently the only authorized use of the trolleybus battery because rt43 in its current form using the route.

    Some routes that could use this new technology, are Rt60, it runs under wire in Beacon Hill, First Hill, and Capitol Hill, any diesel route that crosses 45th and Market Streets, and my wild ones, put segments of 106 and 107 under wire.

    Too help provide an alternative during Interstate Bridge Replacement Construction, C-Tran might be getting Double-Deck buses. Instead of Electric, I would give them the ones from Community Transit’s soon to be discontinued Seattle routes, but CT has plans for those anyway. Will be the 5th operator to have ordered Double Decker buses in Washington State. Where applicable, always liked these buses, they take up less space and have a better center of gravity than an articulated bus. Of course I would never have them on routes with clearance issues.

    So while calculated MOE takes that into account, what it can’t do (scientifically) is take into account changes in turnout and/or composition that lie outside of the mathematical model. If following an election the result falls within the predicted range the survey industry takes a victory lap and gives itself a cookie. If the election results are way off from the predicted outcome then the industry goes back into the voter file data to see if the turnout and voter composition changed a bunch. If it did they include that new data into their LV models and issue analytical reports showing how their surveys and methodologies still performed but it’s the voters fault the predictions were way off.

    The point being (aside from the obvious one that the industry is dishonest) that big changes in turnout and composition increase uncertainty in LV polls just at the point in the election season when polling takes on its greatest significance, and when conventional traditional election punditry assumes the polling to be improving.
