    Interesting proposal to replace the current King County government campus with a new civic campus above Atlantic Base in SODO, with the existing campus converted to housing. I like the idea in principle, but I don’t think it’s technically feasible. Mixed use buildings can be built on top of transit operations bases, the report mentions San Francisco’s Portrero carbarn, but I don’t think that is built on a landfill like SODO is.

    When Atlantic was built, Seattle Transit chose that site because it was available, It opened in 1941, just about a decade after the Regrades had ended. Didn’t know the current Atlantic/Central Base was a combined 25 acres. If the plan happens, I would want to see a requirement, no parking spaces for King County Councilmembers, especially those on the committee that overseas Metro. Would also like to see as part of it, the majority of the routes be electric. As most routes out of this base serve Seattle. Newer trolleybuses have batteries, and they can be used to bridge the gap in wired sections until new substations are sited. When Atlantic opened, it was primarily a trolleybus base, until the mass dieselization of 1963, then again when Seattle Transit closed Jefferson Base in 1970.

    Sheehy was drunk and high AF on a camping trip playing with guns in a National Park and managed to shoot himself. Then first he lied to docs treating him for the wound when he showed up at a local ER for treatment and claimed he was shot while serving in Afghanistan so he wouldn’t be cited for federal gun felonies. The docs could tell he was a) drunk and high AF because science, and also b) recently shot because science so they notified Park LE. When federal LE show up to investigate he told the truth, which was probably obvious and because he had mostly sobered up by then.

Then the records of him being treated in the ER near Glacier were discovered, which included the awkward details about playing with guns while drunk and high on drugs in a National Park and shooting himself.     Let’s mention it then.

    We’ve grown accustomed in the last couple of decades watching tech startups relying on IPO seed corn to sustain incredibly huge balance sheet expenses.

    But they haven’t all worked out. And at least for those that have, the “burn rate” was justifiable expense required to create and dominate the sector being pioneered by the company, whether that was search, social networking, e-commerce, or ride sharing. These pioneers had to “build the plane in the air”.

    But none of that in any way describes TMTG. The company is attempting late entry into an already mature industry. It demonstrates zero innovation. Its active user base is in rapid decline. And it has made zero investments in developing or attracting popular content creators.

    By all accounts the Village Idiot’s favorite tech company is spending $64 million per year on salaries, bonuses, expenses, and perqs for senior managers and directors with no relevant prior industry experience who seldom show up for work, but exclusively travel by corporate jet and always have a box at the Superbowl or the Indy 500. He is paying for the privilege of standing close enough to the money bonfire to warm his hands.

    But in fairness, Harris/Walz have only been out on the road for a week. They are still new and fresh and appearing before audiences hungry for something better. Trump’s act has been touring grievance and resentment for more than eight years with essentially the same material.
