A judicial council can temporarily withhold assigning new cases, and can ask a judge to retire, but only Congress can remove a judge from office.

    I’m reminded of a story, circulated in law schools, of a once-respected federal judge who was getting up in years and frankly losing it upstairs, but refused to retire.

    After rebuffing all suggestions from his colleagues, the chief judge decided to pay his wife a visit. After she invited him in, and pleasantries were exchanged, she said: “I know why you’re here. You want me to help you get him to retire. Not on your life! You think I want him around here all day?”

    That was the end of it. According to the story, the judge stayed on the bench, wreaking havoc on the judicial district, until he croaked.

    Don’t know if it’s true, but it’s a good story, and smacks of the reality. The only way you can get rid of a bad federal judge is by impeachment, death, or voluntary retirement; and if they won’t retire, you’re fucked.

My issue with BYD isn’t just that they are a Chinese company with a U.S. factory (Lancaster, California), it’s that their products are unreliable, especially in Bus Rapid Transit applications, like Stride. Sometimes I wish we can change the rule to lowest bidder whose product is reliable.When ST Express was started, the fleet was started using existing options Metro and Community Transit were taking delivery of.
