    Community Transit testing fuel cell buses out, makes sense. Unless they put a charger at a Park and Ride in Marysville or Arlington, battery only is not a good option for North County routes, as CT’s garage is in Everett. Although they would have to do the same for Hydrogen.

They had one really good year of profits, 2022, but sales revenues, profits, and profit margins have fallen since then. In a normal year, if there is such a thing, their profit is about 10%-12% of sales, less than many tech companies. I’m not defending the oil companies, but if you totally eliminate oil company profits, that might take a little over 40 cents off pump prices here.

Their aim was to eliminate a new source of competition from U.S. frackers by driving them out of business. They didn’t succeed the fracking industry brought their costs down from over $70 to under $40; and while the Saudis’ costs are well below that, the Saudis need an oil price above $40 to sustain the social spending that keeps their regime in power.

    Saudi Arabia has a vested interest in the world continuing to rely on oil as a major energy supply because their billions of barrels still in the ground become worthless if there is no market for it. However, they are trying to diversity their investments and economy for the day when they won’t be able to sell as much oil.

    How do you re-roof a house with solar panels when the roof leaks? Do you have to take all the panels off? Or do you just throw a plastic tarp over the roof?

    Its occurs to me that people shouldn’t install solar panels over an older roof; if you’re going to install solar panels, you should replace the roof. Do subsidies cover that? Probably not. Even if solar panels are “free,” this is an upfront cost that homeowners usually don’t bear directly. Houses typically are re-roofed when sold, as a work order, and the roofers are paid with sale proceeds.

    I installed over a new roof. I actually don’t know what the facts are, although I do hear/I was told that solar panels protect the roof by absorbing/reflecting so much of the sun’s rays.

    A couple of things:

    • Solar panels are now two-sided. Increases efficiency. I don’t know if it’s enough of an increase to cover the additional construction expense.
    • No solar company wants to clean up another solar company’s mess. So if you have a system failure and your solar company is non-responsive (and why should it, when it’s paid in full and has plenty of government-subsidized future customers?) to a repair need, don’t expect the next solar company on the list to agree to deal with it. The money is in new products that can be sold at jacked-up prices because of the subsidies, not in a fix that is fully the responsiblity of the cash-poor homeowner.
