The EU Digital COVID Certificate Regulation passed in July 2021 and more than 2.3 billion certificates were later issued. Visitors to France were banned if they did not have a valid vaccine passport which citizens had to carry to buy food at stores or to use public transport.

    But Dr. Nohynek testified yesterday that her institute advised the Finnish government in late 2021 that COVID passports no longer made sense, yet certificates continued to be required. It seems every time I ride the 512 between Northgate and Lynwood/Everett, it looks like the inspectors at Transdev, the company Community Transit subcontracts Express routes to, have a fear of heights, which should be a disqualifier if you work on Double Deck buses. Every time, seems the mechanics let an upper deck windshield that got dinged, turn into a cracked windshield. I love the Double Deckers, especially on the 512, get to see the construction for the Lynwood extension, trick is, if boarding at Northgate, trying to be first in line.

    Save America took in $5 mil but spent $4.6 million on criminal defense lawyers.

    All in since starting his campaign Trump The Rapist’s committees have spent in excess of $86 million on lawyers as of the end of March. And the most expensive part still lies ahead!

    Because America has more people than housing, and the cost of housing is beyond the means of some, finding a home in America is a game of musical chairs.

    This doesn’t entirely explain the homeless problem; unemployability, mental illness, and drug addiction contribute. But even if everyone had means, there wouldn’t be enough shelter for everyone.

    The homeless have to be somewhere. If they can’t all be housed, they necessarily must end up in open spaces: In parks, on sidewalks, under bridges and in public rights way, on church properties willing to host them, and so on.

    It’s almost inconceivable the U.S. Supreme Court would allow the government to prohibit homelessness when there isn’t enough housing; and allow authorities to arrest, fine, and jail people simply for being in a place because there’s no other place for them.

    Criminalizing simple existence is terribly at odds with America’s values, the ideals embodied in its constitution, and our notions of fair play. But I don’t trust this court.

    That’s why these enormous costs are being born by the less regulated leadership PACs. Normally incumbent office holders and national party leaders create leadership PACs as a way of channeling their access to fund raising far beyond the campaign limits to fund other candidate campaigns and PACs. Trump’s leadership PACs are fairly unique in using the unlimited donation and spending just to tie up courts and keep him out of jail and bankruptcy.

    But it also means that the GOP effort to win down ballot is much more Darwinian and cut throat, since his legal expenses alone could easily fund a dozen House races and even a few Senate races.
    That probably explains why candidate recruitment has really focused on a handful of bizarre shady millionaires and billionaires with no political experience or track record.

    But Save America PAC has also been the outfit tasked with setting up and paying for the “rally” events at which The Rapist appears and which form the base of his voter outreach and promotion. They locate, secure, and pay for the venues, pay for event logistics and support, and promote the events to potential hooting mobs of angry old white people. So unless they can double their fund raising there may be lots more cancellations like this weekend in Wilmington.

    Trump really will destroy the GOP.
    It’s just been widely agreed that it’s impolite to mention. So of course I mention it every chance I get.

    It seems to me to be working the other way around: By tying up the PACs and eating up donations, the trials and lawyer fees keep those resources from being used for political campaigning.

    Teflon Ken may finally meet his Waterloo:

    A Texas appeals court has ruled that Republican Attorney General Ken Paxton can face discipline from the state bar association over his failed effort to overturn the 2020 presidential election.

    A disciplinary committee of the State Bar of Texas accused Paxton in 2022 of making false claims of fraud in a lawsuit that questioned President Joe Biden’s victory. On Thursday, a three-judge panel of the 5th District Court of Appeals said Paxton can be sanctioned by the committee because the lawsuit seeks to punish him in his personal capacity as an attorney and not as a public official.

    “The focus of the Commission’s allegations is squarely on Paxton’s alleged misconduct — not that of the State,” Judge Erin Nowell, an elected Democrat, wrote in the 2-1 opinion.

    But Paxton still has an appeal to the Texas Supreme Court, which is packed with Republicans.
