Don’t believe your lying eyes. Instead, believe what a dumbfuck Nazi coward tells you when he says that it wasn’t an armed, violent mob of fascists storming the Capitol Building to end our democracy on that fateful day. The Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC) is one of Communist China’s biggest state-owned banks. In the first years of the Trump presidency ICBC leased tens of thousands of square feet of office space in Trump’s buildings at ridiculously inflated lease rates earning Trump millions of dollars.
ICBC then promptly turned around and began the financing of ICBM and nuclear weapons tech to North Korea. When Japan, South Korea, the NSA, CIA, and DOD noted this development with alarm, bipartisan Congressional leadership urged sanctions against Trump’s paymasters. And career diplomats in the State Department who specialized in North Korean nuclear containment sought to advise the White House on a response matrix.
But instead Trump arranged an unprecedented first ever summit meeting between a sitting US President and a North Korean dictator which took place in Singapore where Trump was conciliatory to the North Korean dictator and promised no US interference. Then Trump followed this up a few months later with a second overseas trip, this time to meet with the North Korean dictator in his own country to again offer his reassurances.
Today North Korea is repaying its loans from Communist China by selling long range ballistic missiles to Russia for use in bombarding European cities. And Republicans in Congress who are financially propped up by energy companies dependant on Russia are preventing any US response.

Yeah, China moved against Taiwan two days ago. Total news blackout, because the EMP from the first nuclear weapon exploded high over the island wiped out all communications. OUr satellites can’t see the invasion fleet through the cloud cover. The only reason anyone knows something’s going on is the supply of chips to automakers suddenly dried up on Thursday. Ford and GM were the first to know Taiwan was attacked. Airborne sensors began detecting the radiation clouds Friday morning as the jetstream blew the fallout toward Whidbey Island. On Israel’s dark past ties to apartheid South Africa:
For years after its birth, Israel was publicly critical of apartheid and sought to build alliances with the newly independent African states through the 1960s.
Oh really. Shit sure changed…
By 1976, the relationship had changed so profoundly that South Africa’s prime minister, John Vorster, could not only make a visit to Jerusalem but accompany Israel’s two most important leaders, Yitzhak Rabin and Shimon Peres, to the city’s Holocaust memorial to mourn the six million Jews murdered by the Nazis.
Neither Israeli appears to have been disturbed by the fact that Vorster had been an open supporter of Hitler, a member of South Africa’s fascist and violently antisemitic Ossewabrandwag and that he was interned during the war as a Nazi sympathiser.

One night at a dinner party in Jerusalem in 1977, I heard a young Israeli talking about the Arabs in terms which chilled my blood. “In the next war,” he said, “we’ve got to get the Palestinians out of the West Bank for good.”
To me, in my naivete, Israel’s struggle had hitherto seemed that of a brilliant little people, who had suffered the most ghastly experience of the 20th century, struggling for survival amid a hostile Middle East still bent upon their destruction. Now, suddenly, I found myself meeting Israelis committed to the creation of a greater Israel embracing the West Bank, who were utterly heedless of the fate of its inhabitants. The Palestinians were perceived as losers, a mere incidental impediment to the fulfilment of Israel’s historic territorial destiny. By a curious quirk, that young Israeli whom I heard enthuse about emptying the West Bank of Arabs was Binyamin Netanyahu, today his country’s prime minister.

Judge Michael Luttig floated an interesting idea in this interview: Trump’s refusal to transfer power after losing the election was “insurrection.” Under this theory, you don’t even need the Ellipse speech or Capitol riot to disqualify him under Section 3.
Luttig is a serious guy; he clerked for Scalia, worked for the chief justice, was a federal judge for 15 years, then general counsel for Boeing and a top legal adviser for Coca Cola, and was considered by George H.W. Bush for the Supreme Court. He doesn’t bandy frivolous legal arguments.
The reality is the Supreme Court can do anything it wants to with the Trump disqualification case. What it should do is recognize that Trump engaged in insurrection, however it wishes to define it, and rule that Section 3 took effect when he did.
This isn’t taking the decision away from “the people,” because Trump never has, and never will be, the “people’s choice.” He will never win a popular vote. He can only gain the White House via a distorted electoral system that gives unequal voting power to redneck states. So the justices needn’t have guilt feelings about thwarting “the will of the people,” because they aren’t. They’re only thwarting an angry, violent, minority mob.
But the Constitution doesn’t leave everything up to the people, anyway, and never did. The Founding Fathers, in whose wisdom the Court and conservatives put so much store, didn’t trust the people. Presidents were to be elected by electors, not the people. Senators were to be elected by legislatures, not the people. They took away the people’s ability to elect anyone under age 35, not a natural-born citizen, or a resident of the U.S.; later, the Civil War congress and state legislatures also took away the people’s ability to elect ex-Confederates and other insurrectionists to federal offices, including president.
Trump is an insurrectionist. According to Judge Luttig, who’s a far better lawyer than Doctor Dumbfuck, the fake electors plot was insurrection. Trump’s false claims of voting fraud were insurrection. His failed election lawsuits weren’t insurrection, any more than Al Gore’s was, because challenging election results in the manner provided for by the legal system is allowed, as long as you abide by the results as Gore did; but attacking judges is insurrection. Encouraging mob violence against Vice President Pence for carrying out his Constitutional duty was insurrection. Trump committed numerous acts of insurrection, and the Supreme Court can pick and choose which one(s) to hang Section 3 disqualification on.
What they cannot do is look the other way at Trump’s acts of insurrection and preserve democracy. It’s one or the other, Trump or democracy. Luttig is right; the 14th Amendment prohibits and sanctions refusal to peacefully transfer power. And if the Supreme Court doesn’t enforce the Constitution, no one else can. The justices really have no choice but to rule that Trump isn’t eligible to hold office again. How they get to that conclusion doesn’t really matter as much as the conclusion itself.

And with its six-Republican majority, half of whom were appointed by Trump, it can do this with a legitimacy no other American institution wields, enhancing the prospects for peaceful acceptance by everyone. Yes, it’s important that if Trump is kicked off the ballot, that’s done by Republican judges.
If it fails to do so, it risks going down in history as the worst court of all time, which made the worst decision of all time, worse even than Dred Scott or Plessy v. Ferguson. It’s putting itself in a position akin to a parole board deciding to release a deranged serial felon back into society, and running similar risks to its reputation.
All this probably is not lost on four of the Republican justices.

Here is what Calabresi gets wrong:
None of the Jan 6 defendants is charged with “insurrection”. Neither is Trump.
Relying somehow on narrowly confining Trump’s misdeeds to just the riot he orchestrated three years ago is a cheap and lazy dodge.
Moreover, sec 3 of the 14th Amendment specifies that government officers who were previously in insurrection against the United States are barred from office. That leaves out BLM and most of the J6 terrorists. But not Donald Trump.
Beyond that stupid and lazy fail, Calabresi offers us an 1828 dictionary definition of a completely different word to support his bullshit textualism. The American lawmakers of four decades later, having just gone through the greatest human calamity in US history, and still struggling to comprehend the calumnies and betrayals committed by those government officers in defense of slavery, would have an entirely different understanding of the word “insurrection”. And it would be an understanding far better suited to our purposes.
Finally, Calabresi for some reason can’t dash off this latest mash note to the GOP without including quite a few flagrant falsehoods. Whenever an interlocutor obviously and deliberately sidesteps a critical point of debate to delve into irrelevance it’s a clue. When they lie to you it’s your proof. They are not acting in good faith.
That was just dumb.
There are far better critiques available from far more qualified sources who are not in the same lazy hurry as Calabresi.

Desperate to appease the treasonous slave states, Congress literally enacted a binding federal statute that would have enshrined and perpetuated human slavery as official legal doctrine and as an integral institution bound up in statehood.

“Solar energy is the most widely available energy resource on Earth, and its economic attractiveness is improving fast in a cycle of increasing investments. Here we use data-driven conditional technology and economic forecasting modelling to establish which zero carbon power sources could become dominant worldwide. We find that, due to technological trajectories set in motion by past policy, a global irreversible solar tipping point may have passed where solar energy gradually comes to dominate global electricity markets, without any further climate policies. Uncertainties arise, however, over grid stability in a renewables-dominated power system, the availability of sufficient finance in underdeveloped economies, the capacity of supply chains and political resistance from regions that lose employment. Policies resolving these barriers may be more effective than price instruments to accelerate the transition to clean energy.”

“Tucked under a Vancouver bridge, an energy centre sits on top of the existing sewage pumping station so heat can be captured before sewage reaches the treatment plant. Heat pumps cool down warm sewage that’s around 20C (68F) in temperature and concentrate that heat to produce scalding hot water which can be as high as 80C (176F), Pope explains. “What’s really exciting is that our heat recovery system operates at efficiencies of over 300%, so for every unit of electricity that we put in to run the heat pump, we get over three units of thermal energy or heat out of it.” Sewage is also consistently warm so heat pumps continue to operate efficiently even on cold wintry days when heat demand is highest – providing a constant source of renewable energy.”
Harnessing sewage heat is a “missed opportunity”, according to Semida Silveira, professor in systems engineering at Cornell University in the US. “There’s a lot of heat in the world that we just throw away. Today, we have a lot of energy inefficiency,” Silveira explains, pointing out that energy efficiency could resolve half of the targets for carbon reductions in the US.”

@108 Well let’s see. According to a March 28, 2023, Newsweek article, 5 of 2,861 mass shootings in the previous 5 years were committed by LGBQT perps. This statistic doesn’t separate school shootings from mass shootings generally.
On Jan. 4, 2024, a Washington Post article said there have been 394 school shootings since 1999, but didn’t say how many of these were committed by LGBQT perps.
An MSN article on Jan. 4, 2024, didn’t provide numbers, but said “the truth is that the vast majority of mass shooters in the U.S. are cisgender males. The right-wing focus on gun-toting queers and shooters’ mental illness is merely a way to stigmatize queer people while also drawing attention away from gun control regulations that could help stop mass shootings in the first place.”
That article linked to a March 31, 2023, Reuters fact-check that cited the Gun Violence Archive, which said “’the number of known suspects in mass shootings which are trans is under 10 for the last decade,’ which translated to “1:880 [or 0.11%] of the 4,400 shootings.’”
However you slice it, and whichever data base you use, LGBQT shooters are extremely rare, and most mass shootings — school or otherwise — are perpetrated by cisgender males.
So it’s clear that Musk and Don Jr., and numerous other rightwing haters, are intellectually dishonest, are demagoguing the issue, and are demonizing LGBQT people — which is par for the course for that set, and what we expect of them. Piss on them. We’d all be safer if we took their guns away. In Don Jr.’s case elephants, lions, and leopards, too.

It’s looking like Spirit AeroSystems will own this fuckup. We shall see.
It’s almost certainly a collosal assembly mistake. Something like sixteen castlleated fasteners were missing from that plug panel originally installed in Wichita.
My brief understanding of aerospace assembly controls suggests that should not be possible. As it was described to me, things like those fasteners are produced in full kits delivered to the line, each kit uniquely tied to the airframe, and all controlled with tracking systems using things like bar codes, RFID, etc. So in theory it should not have been possible for the fuselage to leave Wichita without that fastener kit having been tracked and accounted for. And then all that would be backed by third party, hands on visual inspection of the closure before insulation and interior trim is installed.
It would almost have to be an act of deliberate sabotage involving a conspiracy among various hourly employees all working together.
Or… managers deliberately intervening to omit critical procedures, inspections, and safety checks.
Occam’s Razor comes to mind.

113,
I think people should have no doubts that law enforcement work, as it is practiced in the United States, attracts individuals who are enthusiastic about being given social and professional permission to discard normal restraint when it comes to physical aggression and violence. I also think that quite a few people, sadly IMHO, regard that as a good thing.
Police agencies clearly seek out these violent individuals, and certainly do nothing to screen them out. To the contrary, agencies feel the need to train “aggression” into new hires “for safety”. None of this is ever going to change until taxpayers agree to stop paying for it, and until younger workers refuse to accept a job that seek to strip them of normal, healthy human impulses.
That inevitably means fewer cops, at least for a while.
