I do a little survey with the Pantograph Pro app, checking on King County Metro 100 routes using battery busses. Rt101, tge Renton-Seattle trunk route, a 6 hour block using an XE60 can do 3 round trips. Rt105 between Downtown Renton and tge Renton Highlands dies quite well multiple trips, with enough juice after tge last run to get to Metro South in Tukwilla. Rt107, Renton to Beacon Hill Station via Skyway with its multiple ascents and descents, 1and a half round trips.

The news is not good for Queen YLB’s fucked kids.

Shockingly, America’s mortality problem is driven primarily by deaths among the young.

One statistic in particular stood out: one in 25 American five-year-olds today will not make it to their 40th birthday. No parent should ever have to bury their child, but in the US one set of parents from every kindergarten class most likely will.

Almost every country in the world took a mortality hit during the pandemic. Developed nations for the most part are bouncing back, but the US is not. If Covid-19 had never happened, life expectancy in other developed countries would have remained flat or increased, but the US would still have lost a year due to the surge in violent deaths. By my calculations, Americans lost 9.4 million years of life to external causes in 2021 alone, more than the 9.1mn lost to Covid over the course of the entire pandemic. And these deaths continue to rise.

    Bidenflation touches everyone.

Island Transit typically runs a couple of miles, or more, between stops, especially on the NB1/SB1 routes. Don’t think a comparison with urban bus usage works, Railfan.

BTW there will be two supercharger battery stations installed at Greenbank Farm. The Port of Coupeville is applying for a grant that will pay for much of this. I think I read that it’s $425k for the two. A lot of money for high-income visitors to the island. Not many island residents own EVs.

For reference and as a reminder because, weirdly, this is needed by our media:

Paying former sex partners to hide from voters that a candidate cheated on their marriage is not, itself, illegal.

Having corporations pay sex workers for the purpose of benefitting a political campaign is.

Whether it is American Media Inc. paying a sex worker for their silence, or The Trump Organization paying a sex worker for their silence, if the payments are made to benefit a political candidate then they are a criminal violation. Making the payments from a corporation is a crime. Accepting the payments is a crime. And taking subsequent, affirmative steps to hide the payments from discovery is a crime.

And prosecuting these kinds of crimes is very routine.

    23,
Actually the precise criminal offense, and likely some of the charges, will arise from Trump falsifying his tax returns by omitting any record of this income.

Trump’s defense of the payments centers on his claim that it was not for “campaign” purposes.

    Mkay.

But since the funds came from AMI and The Trump Organization, then if the purpose of the payments to the sex workers was “entirely personal” as Trump and his lawyers have loudly and frequently claimed, then he is obligated by law to have paid taxes on this as income.

This is the basis for the violations that Trump’s corporate entities were found guilty of back in December. The company paid personal expenses to benefit certain employees as a way of increasing their compensation without the employees incurring additional taxes. The law is generally clear on these counts. And since the companies involved actively created the scheme and put it into effect on behalf of the employees the company was also guilty of tax fraud.

Here, unless Trump’s and his lawyer’s claims are false, the payments to these sex workers were intended to benefit Donald J. Trump personally. Therefore his scheme to classify the payments as some form of retainer for legal services for the business is an obvious effort to avoid the income tax he would owe for that income spent on a purely personal expense.

He’s fucked either way, actually. If the purpose of the payments is personal “to spare his illegal alien wife and autistic son” then he’s guilty of criminal tax fraud. And if the purpose of the payments was to benefit the campaign, then he’s guilty of criminal campaign finance fraud. By all accounts it appears that Trump and his strip mall lawyers are just now figuring this out.

    37,

They must all grovel and debase themselves for their idiot-King.
    Even JEB!

JEB! is lying and he knows it.

Bragg NEVER said he was dropping the case against Trump the individual. He consistently warned the media not to read too much into the changes in personnel and timing of events.
By summer he had resumed focusing on the clandestine payments to sex workers as a criminal conspiracy including taxes. And as soon as the criminal tax fraud convictions against the Trump companies had been secured he moved to convene a grand jury to pursue what logic dictates will be criminal tax charges against Trump the individual.

I’ve pointed out here before, that this kind of progression is not at all unusual in cases like these. Fucksticks like Trump who run companies that conspire to defraud tax collectors get precisely this kind of careful, focused scrutiny. During the early stages they get a chance to cooperate, come clean, admit that they used their companies to cheat on taxes, and most of the time prosecutors go easy, and waive or minimize charges.

But Trump has been denying the tax cheating on all of this shit for years now. Not only has he lied, and been caught telling outright lies in the media about his tax cheating, but he’s gone further and attacked the investigators, and urged his supporters to threaten and attack them. He’s fought with these investigators in every way conceivable, and in a few that might not even be legal. He’s formed joint defense agreements with nearly every witness in order to buy and control their testimony. As President he threatened witnesses when they were subpoenaed to testify before Congress.

Defendants like that, who Fuck Around get to Find Out.
That’s how the system works. He should have cooperated two years ago, but he was far too busy urging his followers to beat police skulls in with fire extinguishers and forge electoral certificates. In February or March of 2021 he could have walked away clean from all of this with probably nothing more than filing a plea agreement and paying a fine. But he went full retard instead. Because Republicans gonna’ Republican.

We declined based on the framing, but it fueled our thinking about how to set the right conditions for a discussion — avoiding simplified versions of issues and concentrating on a format that will broaden attendees’ perspectives rather than on having one side ‘win,’” Dozier said in a March 15 news release announcing his own set of conversations to be held on campus.

The preceding from John Dozier, MIT’s chief diversity officer. Why is he chickenshit? Because he knows which side will “win”, if a fair debate is held.

House Republicans accuse NIH of ‘stonewalling’ on ‘supercharged monkeypox experiment’

“Based on the available information, it appears the project is reasonably anticipated to yield a lab-generated monkeypox virus that is 1,000 times more lethal in mice than the monkeypox virus currently circulating in humans and that transmits as efficiently as the monkeypox virus currently circulating in humans. G-clown, Mayor Pete, and their fellow homosexuals aren’t stepping up to get vaccinated for the disease that their ilk is responsible for spreading.

Low vaccination rates put United States at high risk of new mpox outbreaks

U.S. public health officials want high-risk individuals who haven’t been vaccinated for mpox — previously called monkeypox — to do so before a potential resurgence of the virus in the coming months.

That surge could be worse than last year, federal modeling has found, but only about 23% of those at high risk for the virus have received vaccines, according to a report released Thursday by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

For those who need a reminder, G-clown:

Those at highest risk include gay and bisexual men, and people who have multiple sex partners.

G-clown, I hope the pain is searing and permanent. You and your fellow homosexuals deserve nothing less. You’ve earned it, and then some.

He is not included in the list of names appearing for the defendant in his arraignment
Tuesday as provided to the Secret Service. When asked about him, the lawyers from The Trump Org who will be appearing responded “We don’t know that guy”.

Some are speculating that Tacopina is disqualified from representing Trump now that he has been formally indicted on criminal charges that he made large illegal cash payments to a series of sex workers, because in 2018 Tacopina consulted with one of the sex workers in a professional capacity. The sex worker in question is expected to serve as a key prosecution witness in the case. And the question of privileged communication between a witness for the prosecution and an attorney for the defendant is something the trial judge would have to review.

NYT, Ankush Khadori, former fed prosecutor in private prac in NYC who is nurturing a media career, speculates rather breathlessly that once the cherry is broken on prosecuting a former president for financial crimes attached to that president’s businesses, then ANY shitty, unethical, local prosecutor like KEN PAXTON can drag a former president to trial to defend himself.

    Except…

Trump is quite simply the only modern president to have launched their campaign for office while not first having divested themselves of their businesses and business income. Trump kept his dozens of companies, kept the income, stayed in charge, and used these businesses as a political tool both throughout his campaigning and his term in office.

If Ken Paxton can find a canceled check from “BARACK HUSSEIN OBAMA INC” paying off prostitutes, let him bring it.
And in case you missed it, we already went through this charade with Whitewater.

For them it is a moment of existential crisis. One of the new pillars of movement conservatism is crumbling before their eyes, and with it some part of their political future.

And some of that right wing MAGA hysteria is going to amount to phony concern trolling, in the vain hope that by jeering the refs the visiting team bench can make a comeback in the final seconds before the horn. But nobody else should be fooled. Literally ALL of their concern trolling about precedent and moral hazard is predicated on complete falsehood.

The biggest risk in prosecuting Trump is trying to do so, and failing to win a conviction. That’s really the only worry that Democrats should have. And the fact that MAGA Republican defenders of Trump aren’t even willing to think about that is very telling.

    78, 81,
While AFU has very little to gain from such an attack, and perhaps plenty to lose, that doesn’t prove that Putin is responsible. There are certainly plenty of angry, militant Ukrainians and supporters of Ukraine, as well as Russian dissidents, who would conceive of an attack like that as a good thing.

But the basic fact that pulverizes those perspectives is that Vladimir Putin is proven to have carried out precisely this kind of attack many times before. And in each case it has proved successful in achieving his political objectives. Putin will use this attack as a way to expand and intensify his control over Russian civic and private life, expand his authoritarian police state, seize greater control over law enforcement and the courts, crack down on businesses, seize assets, restrict movement, crush dissent, and defy international criminal courts as they pursue him and his military for the sickening war crimes they are committing in Ukraine. And there is substantial risk that Putin will at least consider using this attack to shift toward more vicious and more frequent war crimes in Ukraine, now that the conditions on the ground have turned against him once again.

Putin is undeniably the person who stands to gain the most from any series of terrorist attacks inside Russia. And if Putin is behind this, then expect it to be a series of attacks, spaced deliberately apart in time and location, allowing the state controlled media to fully inspire and exploit a public backlash. This is Putin’s one-trick-pony dance move.

“Another 4Chan troll has been arrested after threatening Florida Sheriff Mike Chitwood. He was living with his mother, the Daily Beast said. Tyler Meyer, 30, of San Diego, allegedly made death threats against Chitwood … after Chitwood condemned antisemitic incidents …. There were several guns, ammunition and electronics seized from his mother’s home, the sheriff’s office said.”

Might not work, but it can’t be any worse than having them learn in a union-controlled public school system.

The laboratories of democracy are running a new experiment: universal school choice, or funding students instead of schools. We don’t know whether it will work, but it will be a key reform to evaluate in the coming years.

Florida is the 6th state to enact universal school choice in just two years.

    1. West Virginia
    2. Arizona
    3. Iowa
    4. Utah
    5. Arkansas
    6. Florida

    The dominoes are falling.

A school choice revolution has ignited.

Public school teachers themselves have proven that.

Once you account for socioeconomic differences, students enrolled in exclusive private academies, charter academies, or public schools all perform about the same on standardized academic achievement tests. But the students enrolled in public schools cost less than half as much to do it.

My opposition to public schools is not about students and never has been.

The rightful and proper role of any state prosecutor is to ensure community safety and an orderly society by quickly and aggressively locking up black men and other misfits and malcontents.

If Alvin Bragg can’t be made to understand that role then it will be up to We The People to teach him.

Someone like that has absolutely no business giving orders or threatening so-called “legal consequences” on a great Patriot like President Trump.

Judge Marchan is going to do what he does.
And he has a duty to protect due process in his courtroom.

But I think it would be a mistake for Bragg to support any sweeping gag order on Trump or to make such a motion. It would not slow Trump down one bit. And Bragg certainly realizes that.
And the consequences of imposing such an order and then either enforcing it or failing to enforce it make the value of such an order minimal in my opinion.

@96 Reminds me of the publicly-funded Ohio homeschoolers churning out “good little Nazis.”

A charter school is a private school supported by taxpayers’ money with no public accountability for who can attend, what is taught, or whether children learn.
