Long commutes, rude bosses, low pay, bad working conditions, on-the-job hazards, etc.; and the Republican Work Ethic Party™ discourages work by making wages the most heavily-taxed form of income there is, while stock market gamblers, capitalists, and lazy heirs of rich people skate. It’s so bad that nobody should work. But here’s another reason not to work: The b.s. employers put people through just to get a job in the first place.

She said, “They probably wanted to go with the other person all along but wanted me as a backup.” If so, that’s just plain dishonest and exploitive.)

    Or the recent graduate who “described having to take a series of intelligence tests, go through two interviews, and provide five references — all of whom were asked to complete a 15-minute questionnaire — for an entry-level position.” (He didn’t get a job offer, either.)

    Or how about this? “Another man was told to start looking for apartments across the country after being flown out for a final interview, only to follow up a couple of weeks later and learn that the recruiter simply forget to tell him he hadn’t gotten the job.” (He said, “My interviewing experiences have been worse than dating, with the ghosting and non-responses.)

    These aren’t isolated cases: “Companies are … coming up with new, higher, and harder hoops to jump through at every turn. That translates to endless rounds of interviews, various arbitrary tests, and complex exercises and presentations that entail hours of work and prep.” And then don’t even bother to tell you that you’re not going to be hired.

    Americans are decent hardworking folks. They’re not afraid of hard work, and they don’t hate working. They hate employers, and for damned good reasons.

    During the pandemic, millions of them decided to chuck wage slavery and start their own businesses. Employers now complain they can’t hire enough workers. Maybe they should start asking themselves why.
