    If TexASS decides to support equating a fetus with a child then conventionally the burden of proof should rest with the state to prove that no child was present. Again, the 4th Amendment reasonableness standard for the detention is probably met. But a sworn affidavit from a trooper that no child was present could not provide the basis for supporting any subsequent arrest or citation.

    I suppose TexASS could always equip trooper vehicles with mobile ultrasound equipment.

    Actually, a reasonable question. Without looking for a reference, here’s the answer I’ll supply:

    Petroleum is a hydrocarbon, or a chain carbon atoms (MW around 12) bonded to somewhere between 2 and 3 hydrogen atoms each (MW 1 each), depending on the specific molecule and whether the atomic bonds between the carbon atoms are single or double. So for every carbon atom there’s a total MW of 14-15. (Methane, which is CH4, has a MW of 16.)

    Once burned, petroleum is converted to carbon dioxide (except for the small amount converted to carbon monoxide or something other molecule). That’s two atoms of oxygen (MW 16 each) for each atom of carbon. The CO2 molecule weighs 12 16 16 = 44.

    44 is roughly triple the short range of 14-15, and 278 tons is roughly triple 94 tons.

    That’s my answer: It’s the conversion of hydrocarbon to carbon dioxide. My organic chemistry class was in the Fall of 1980.

    I’ve been doing some travel back and forth to Delaware going thru the Holland or Lincoln Tunnels and/or the GWB, as well as NJ Turnpike and then Delaware highways including the Delaware Memorial Bridge.

    The cost associated with tolls one way is more or equal to the cost of gas to get down there approximately (vehicle mileage 35 mpg @ $5.00/gallon). In essence the tolls are costing me $5.00 for each gallon burned for a total of $10.00 per gallon for the mileage traveled.

    CT doesn’t have tolls. One of the only states in the New England and Northeast that doesn’t. They did, but many years ago they had a bad firey accident at one of the toll stations and since then they got rid of them. Past and current Governors tried to reinstate tolls but the freaks of the GOP have a sad. Many out of state vehicles travel thru the state without contributing to the cost of maintaining the roads. Sometimes, over the weekends, you’ll see more than 50% of the vehicles on I-95 are from out of state (NJ/NY/PA/FL and more).

    Now some say that CT has one of the highest gas tax rates, but compared to the other northeast and new england states it isn’t tremedously different.

    When I travel to CT, I know how to get around the tolls without making my trip any longer under typical traffic conditions.

    CT people should wake up and smell the fucking coffee. The higher gas tax is peanouts compared to the cost of tolls. Sure my scenario involves a $18 fee to cross the holland tunnel but NY State doesn’t have vehicle property tax…..CT does.

    The developer behind the Pantograph App, a transit tracking app, did an update that was worth the wait. Unlike One Bus Away, pantograph is a vehicle tracking app, not just a real time arrivals app. Good for statistics, and I’ve been doing a check on battery electric busses in operation in Puget Sound, Oregon, and Bay Area, but his new update put the LOSSAN Corridor into his app. The LOSSAN is the Blackbird of my little LA Speed Check of Electric busses(The LA Speed Check is an urban legend among pilots, ATC, and aviation enthusiasts). I leave out trackless trolleys in Seattle, Vancouver, and San Francisco, consider that cheating. LAMTA uses battery busses on the G-Line busway, but what really boosts the total for the LOSSAN on his app to nearly 100 busses, is the Antelope Valley Transportation Authority, almost it’s entire fleet is electric. Don’t think that is a good idea, yet. Although being a small agency, AVTA was able to make it’s transition overnight. The LAMTA will take about 12 years once the decision is made, it’s how they phased out diesel in favor of CNG. Pierce Transit went CNG, but is now operating a few hybrids and beb’s. A few times they have had their CNG fueling pad breakdown, having to deadhead busses to SeaTac to fill up. In the Bay Area, AC Transit puts more hydrogen busses on the road than all the Bay Area agencies(including AC Transit) put battery busses on the road every day.

    I got the Pantograph Pro App, and a new feature includes real time speed, compared Rainier Valley run times. LINK gets 30 in the MLK Jr Way segments. With it’s more frequent stops, companion bus route 106 barely gets 10 on that segment.
