    AOC’s newest stalker got me thinking about “why?”

    What’s behind it all. Obviously people like MTG and Ben Shapiro are eager to use AOC as a prop to both generate interest and support and to elevate their own stature. It’s Charlie Zelenoff trying to goad Deontay Wilder in order to build his YouTube channel.

    But what’s behind that? Who are the anonymous Americans who get excited seeing a chubby, middle-aged, southern female troll, or a skinny, pale, nearly middle aged California-by-way-of-Harvard male troll chasing AOC around with their phones?

    I figure it’s not too complicated. It’s all the things that have produced this national explosion of “social anxiety” among whites and white males in the last decade or so. They see AOC and they see someone who is younger, healthier, fitter, and better educated, who has already risen higher than they ever will and is merely getting started, and it makes them furious. It makes them doubt the assumptions they had built into them when they were younger – the assumptions that “white is better”, “male is better”, etc. The anger is cognitive dissonance. And that always creates an opening for persuasion.

    On one side of that cognitive dissonance we have modern movement “conservatives” telling these people that their assumptions are not wrong, but that “the system” has failed, is rigged, is corrupt, is being manipulated by “dark forces” (DERP STATE!). They explain the rise and success of AOC as evidence of that corruption and failure. The stalking demonstrates their commitment to “drain the swamp” and restoring “the greatness”.

    Our failure has been to neglect to step into that cognitive dissonance and offer an alternative explanation. The truth.
    The truth that a person like AOC is going farther in modern America than Marjorie Taylor Greene, or Ben Shapiro because she works much harder for more people than they ever can or will. The rise of people like AOC is evidence of them overcoming all the assumptions about them – their gender, race, background – to fight to make life better for other people. That’s the true explanation. And it’s a better story. It’s one many of these angry white people are ready to hear.

    Whatever “defects” are discovered, including those created by their own audit process, will serve as seed corn for a generation of state level “forensic audits” for at least the next four years and probably well beyond. They get to see their annual revenue volumes grow 10X in the next twelve to eighteen months. And they all go shopping for slopeside ski cabins and motor yachts at taxpayer expense.

    A business model where fucking up is profitable and necessary. The “product” being sought is “defect”. And the contractor is uniquely positioned to produce the sought after product.

    It’s not really a question of “if” these state-ordered, outside audits will become common. It’s a question of how widespread and for how long.

    This coupled with vote suppression and gerrymandering will be the animating principles of all “conservatism” for the next decade at least. An industry ecosystem will arise to support it. And it will become a matter of orthodoxy for all Republicans. It’s the new gold rush con version of Death Frog’s “oilfield in the placenta”.

    Today in San Francisco, more MUNI routes restored service. The K-Ingleside resumes service, through running with the T-Third Street line, which already was running. The N-Judah line also is running again, and the upper deck of the subway re-opens. In a matter of hours, the F-Market and Wharves line resumes, with the vintage streetcars. Probably going with the streamlined PCCs, but no MUNI Rail celebration is complete without MUNI Car No.1, built in 1912, wonder if Mayor London Breed will be driving it, even for a block, 3 have before, the Mayor in 1912, and later Dianne Feinstein, and Ed Lee.

    As for the Cable Cars, that should be the end of the year, for resuming service. The Grips probably need to get back in shape.

    Yesterday, here in Seattle, Sound Transit began placing the new Siemens S700 LRVs into service.

    There is also clear intention for the content and timing here: Pence is beginning his comeback this month. And fresh off the killing of Liz Cheney, Trump wants to destroy Pence next. He is going to systematically use The Big Lie and other grievance issues to take down all the competition for 2024.

    He’s going to run. This is how he announces it. And this is also how he raises funds free from disclosure. My Pillow, Wayfair, Herring, Publix, Sinclair, Donors Trust, and dozens of other public companies and foundations we don’t know about can give unlimited sums free from any public disclosure. And Trump and Trump’s affiliated PACs can freely use that money to feed The Big Lie while simultaneously gutting any opposition from his own party.

    Maricopa County’s Republican election board has completed three post election forensic audits. They all showed the election was free and fair and without fraud. Arizona Republicans filed more than a dozen lawsuits. Lost every single one. Badly.

    Not the same thing as loading up the pickup with cases of fuel bombs and assault rifles for assassinating the Vice President.
    Sure, it’s a matter of polarization that Republicans now argue that assembling an armed mob to overthrow Congress or hiring “Ninjas” to burn ballots is the same thing as a legal challenge to an election in a court of law.

    But it’s also more than a sign of polarization. Because, like I said, they are arguing to eliminate the law, not to follow it. At this point they are well beyond filing lawsuits. They lost all the lawsuits. So now they are doing things specifically outside the law. Republicans want to do away with the law because they can’t win within the law. That’s not at all the same thing as challenging an election within the law.

    It’s the opposite.

    Any time you see anyone demagoguing debt the only real question being raised is “qui bono”? Who benefits from “more money/debt”?

    That’s not a question about increasing debt, but rather it is a question about distribution of benefits and inequality. So “conservatives” (who we know only care about debt when Democrats are creating it) use concern trolling about debt to conceal the real truth of their agenda. And that is to increase inequality. Republicans are perfectly happy to rack up mountains of debt stretching decades into the future for space lasers and 600 ship navies, and corn farm subsidies and billionaire tax cuts.

    They are happy to do so because they are confident that the benefits of that debt increase will land disproportionately among wealthier white families from targeted communities. Wealthy white families who own shares in the defense contractors, shipyards, and agri-businesses. Wealthy white families who buy the bonds and redeem them or borrow against them. Somewhat less wealthy white families who serve as senior management in the defence contractors, shipyards, and agri-businesses. Still less wealthy white families who work for them as engineers, chemists, or plant managers. The communities where they live, the schools their children attend, the stores where they shop.

    Lather, rinse, repeat.

The Air Mail Scandal was a controversy for both the Hoover and Roosevelt Administrations, but when the airline contracts were canceled, and the Air Corps ordered to fly the Mail, it highlighted the deficiencies of having combat aircrews subordinate to Corps commanders. After new post office contracts were awarded to the airlines, some of the Air Corps deficiencies were rectified, with all stateside combat aircraft put under the GHQ Air Force, commanded by an aviator. Main problem with that in 1935, the Air Corps didn’t have too many combat aircraft. Also, it didn’t apply to overseas units, like Hawaii.

    Mitchell also had an impact on many young aviators in the Air Service/Air Corps. Men like Andrews, Arnold, Spaatz, Eaker, and Lemay.
