Drinking Liberally — Seattle

by Darryl — Tuesday, 4/15/25, 3:07 pm

DLBottle

It is a lovely evening to stop by the Seattle Chapter of Drinking Liberally’s weekly get-together. We just hang out and chat over a beer.

We meet tonight and every Tuesday at the Roanoke Park Place Tavern, 2409 10th Ave E, Seattle. You’ll find us in the back room of the pub or, maybe, out on the back patio. We start at 8:00pm.

Chapters of Living Liberally are all over the place…if you can’t make it to the Seattle chapter, stop by another chapter near you.

This happened about a week ago but now if you google* you can find video.

The Kansas Legislature had the brilliant idea of endorsing an official religion and allowed a Christian (evangelical and white of course) service to be held in the Capitol rotunda. So the local Satanist Church ALSO held a service at which point the Christians decided to try to physically drive him from the building by pushing and pulling until one of the Christians took a solid hook to the jaw, at which point Capitol police arrested the instigators.

Oh, of course not. They arrested the Satanist.

    This is very good news:

The judge presiding over the case of a man who was mistakenly deported by the U.S. government to a prison in El Salvador suggested Tuesday that she was weighing contempt proceedings against the Trump administration.

    https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/immigration/judge-abrego-garcia-case-indicates-weighing-contempt-proceedings-trump-rcna201359

Trump believes he can arbitrarily deprive people lawfully in the United States, including citizens, of due process simply by calling them “criminals” and ordering them shipped out of the country beyond the reach of U.S. courts or constitutional protections. We are facing extreme danger. The gravity of the situation warrants the court taking extreme measures, including jailing administration officials until its orders are complied with.

    Yeah. About that.
Once the SCOTUS affirms and discharges an order on remand there is no further appeal on those portions of the order previously affirmed.

The remand is limited to timing of the order, and to any discovery needed to clarify governmental “facilitation”. The government is refusing discovery. It can’t appeal its own refusal to obey an order previously affirmed.

Disgraceful weakling Roberts is clearly intent upon leaving the District to sort this out.

Since it takes place in what used to be Boston, probably was Harvard. The flashback took place in the period after the Religious Nationalists launched the coup that took out all three branches, and their infiltrators in the provisional government began issuing their edicts. The episode where the takeover happened was in the first season, long before J6.

Trump MAGA voter being decimated by tariffs wanted sympathy. He found only scorn
    By Kevin Manahan
If only someone had warned him.
When a small business owner who voted for Donald Trump posted a video on TikTok recently, pleading for help because the crushing tariffs on China were about to bankrupt his operation — which, he said, imports alloy wheels — he found little comfort from a slice of his fellow Americans.
Votes have consequences, he was told.

    He was mocked for his
    a) economic ignorance;
    b) hypocrisy on judging people on their decency while voting for Trump, one of the least decent men to hold the office — and a guy elected, in part, because of his lack of decency; and
    c) voting for a candidate who made no secret that he, if elected, he would victimize the most marginalized groups in the country, or thinking that as a white guy, he’d be safe.

“The only reason he feels this way is because he was affected. If he cared about his neighbors, he wouldn’t vote for a man who used racist and divisive rhetorics against people of color. You’ll be fine like the others.”

“He seems like a good guy. I don’t [think] most people are wishing bad things on him—they’re just enjoying watching him reap exactly what he sowed.”

“And another thing that’s absolutely bonkers is that Kamala [Harris] wanted to give small businesses of $50,000 tax cut, so he voted for additional taxes versus getting a tax cut.”

“This guy doesn’t understand how voting works. It’s not a vote for most popular song. It’s a vote for how the country is run and what happens to people. And if you vote for someone that’s cruel, corrupt and incompetent, that does reflect poorly on who you are.”

Boxcheck Momala would be as underwhelming as a candidate for CA governor as she was as a candidate for US president.

Independent voters were notably bearish on a Harris candidacy — 26 percent said they felt irritated by the prospect and 21 percent selected “hopeless.”

And while Black voters were the most eager for Harris to run — 35 percent said they felt joyful about the possibility, and 38 percent selected “mostly excited” — other voters of color gave a mixed verdict. Among Asian American voters, for example, 18 percent chose “irritated” to describe their reaction while 19 percent of Latinos said the prospect made them feel hopeless.

The group has been criticized for its stance on transgender issues, particularly its opposition to gender recognition reform and the inclusion of transgender people in a ban on conversion therapy.
The LGB Alliance has been described as transphobic, “anti-trans”, “trans-exclusionary”, a “hate group” and as part of an “anti-transgender movement” by scholars, politicians, LGBT organizations, LGBT public figures, human rights organizations, and others, including the Labour Campaign for Trans Rights and several Labour MPs.
