by Darryl — Tuesday, 10/12/21, 5:25 pm

DLBottlePlease join us this evening as the Seattle Chapter of Drinking Liberally meets for some politics over an elixir.

The Seattle chapter of DL meets every Tuesday at the Roanoke Park Place Tavern (2409 10th Ave E, Seattle) starting at 8pm. We are still out on the patio (under an awning) in the back. The kitchen is still closed, but feel free to bring your own dinner. Note that a COVID vaccination card and ID are required to enter the Roanoke.

Chapters of Drinking Liberally can be found all over the place. If you can’t make the Seattle chapter, find a chapter near you.

It’s bad enough that they’re bringing Obama into VA to campaign with McAuliffe.

They don’t want First Vegetable Joe Biden anywhere near the campaign. So they’re bringing in Obama.

They brought Obama to Michigan that final weekend before the 2016 presidential election, too. I don’t think that helped much.

How the Republicans can steal Virginia

Remember when Chris Christie came from out of nowhere to take NJ’s governorship in that off-year election? Feels a little similar.

If McAuliffe loses VA, it may be because of Hispanics.

In 2013, when McAuliffe was first elected governor, he took 66 percent of the Latino vote. Per Politico, he was down to 58 percent in a Monmouth poll of Virginia a month ago and then dropped further to 53 percent in Monmouth’s most recent poll. Emerson had McAuliffe leading among Hispanics with 56 percent of the vote a month ago and now has him down to 45 percent.

I hear there are some Hispanics down in Texas, too. Good thing for Democrats this isn’t a trend.

Early voting in Virginia has already started. Democrats want to change the rules.

Fairfax board asks Northam to waive witness requirement for absentee ballots

The board voted 9-1 for the proposal by Chair Jeffrey McKay to send a letter to Northam, with Springfield District Supervisor Pat Herrity, the board’s only Republican, casting the only vote against the motion.

The excuse is the COVID-19 “crisis”. Except nobody else in Virginia thinks it’s a crisis, particularly as the case rate is declining quickly.

The New York Times reported Sunday that Virginia’s cases and hospitalizations have declined 17 and 14 percent respectively during the past two weeks. Moreover, Virginia’s state of emergency expired June 30 as did the numerous executive orders Gov. Northam issued pursuant to the pandemic. The sole Republican member of the Fairfax board, Pat Herrity, voted against asking Northam to issue such an extraordinary waiver, pointing out that voting has already been underway for three weeks: “To do this in the middle of an election process in the name of COVID is nonsensical.” He also emphasized election integrity: “Witness signatures are important as they provide another line of defense against voter fraud.”

This is how much trouble McAuliffe is in.

Individual fund-raising will be dwarfed by outside spending in AZ next year. Same in NV, where Cortez Masto may very well face a GOP candidate with the last name Laxalt, well-known in those parts.

Cortez Masto will need the outside help – she’s not doing so well according to the last released data.

It’s always hilarious until you consider that deaths among black Americans are overrepresented relative to their percentage of the overall population.

So laugh at the deaths of people you don’t like and just quietly, hypocritically, and with great cowardice ignore the deaths of people whose votes you need when it’s election time again.
