Food Prices Explode Again!
Hardly a day goes by without some price or other skyrocketing on the food shelves. Today it’s chicken TV dinners.
A couple years ago $1.00 would buy a 14 oz. chicken TV dinner. Then it progressively shrunk to its present weight of 9.8 oz. Now they’ve put it in a different box that says “special selections” and raised the price to $1.39. It’s the same TV dinner; all you get for the extra 39 cents is a different box.
After adjusting for the smaller weight that’s a 98% price increase in 2 years! (It’s actually more because they took out chicken instead of mashed potatoes; you used to get 3 pieces of chicken but now you get 1.) Of course, I don’t eat this crap, but poor people and senior citizens do.
I’ve also noticed a big increase in dog food lately, which also impacts senior citizens trying to live on meager social security checks while paying light rail taxes.
And what have I gotten from the Republicans in the last 8 years? $900 of tax rebates that’s what! Works out to about 30 cents a day. Shit, that doesn’t pay for this week’s price increase for the cardboard box the 1-piece chicken dinner comes in!

In other words, if Congress is investigating John Gotti Jr. for racketeering and subpoenaes witnesses, and Gotti says the witnesses don’t have to appear, the subpoenaes are no good, according to Colberg’s legal theory.
