Tony and Pulitzer prize winning playwright August Wilson died today of liver cancer, at Swedish Hospital in Seattle. A Seattle resident since 1990, Wilson will be remembered as one of the greatest American playwrights of the last quarter century. He will be missed.
Bartelby spews:
Amen.
Seattle fancies itself a “world class city.” AW was an artist of that caliber that legitimized the boast. He shall be missed.
RonK, Seattle spews:
Fast. Sad. Leaving a piece of work unfinished.
Swift Boat Vets For Universal Healthcare spews:
God Bless Him, a great artist. May angels wing him speedily to heaven for a long rest.
Mr. Cynical spews:
My wife & I had tickets to the Seattle Rep from the mid-1970’s thru the about 1995. I remember seeing Fences and Joe Turner’s Come & Gone in the mid-80’s….somewhere around there and Piano Lesson in the early 90’s. There may have been some others too.
We enjoyed his work.
Michael spews:
I saw Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival this year. It was a very moving play. RIP.
HELLCAT spews:
AUGUST WILSON WAS THE ABSOLUTE GREATEST. GOD BLESS AND MAY ALL YOUR HEAVENLY DAYS BE BLESSED AS WERE YOUR DAYS HERE ON EARTH. YOU WILL BE GREATLY MISSED SIR.

Wow … this is the first time ever I’ve seen a one day old thread in which everyone agrees and all are civil.
Thanks, Goldy, for the post in honor of August Wilson and thanks to all who have commented above, as well.
“The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb,
The leopard shall lie down with the young goat,
The calf and the young lion and the fatling together;
And a little child shall lead them.
— Isaiah 11:6”
[would that last line refer to Goldy? :-) ]

I think it has something to do with how few people even know who this guy is.
JC Bob spews:
May he rest in peace but…
Never heard if him before. And I suspect I would get along fine never having heard of him. When I think of great artists, I think of Vermeer, Monet, van Gogh, Mozart, etc.
But what do you think of Jack Kilby. You know you wouldn’t be reading this if it weren’t for Jack Kilby or some other engineer like him.
