    I saw Newt Gingrich on CNN’s Piers Morgan show tonight. He said, “I’m in Seattle.” Ugh. Let’s all shower. On the other hand, Piers said, “that’s one of the beautiful places in the world. I’ve been there many times.” Piers got that right.

    In MI that would include a lot of fat schlubs who haven’t seen theirs in years.

    So, think of the trees as a sort of surrogate penis.

    When the trees get too tall, it makes their dicks seem really, really microscopic.

    Today, COPC released a statewide poll showing by a 55% to 25% margin, a majority of Washington state voters favor current legislation requiring the state to consider impacts on people’s health when planning new transportation projects.
    The survey also reveals voter reactions to some of the reasons for supporting health as a transportation goal. Support of this policy idea increased to 71% (a 45 point margin) after hearing these reasons, the most compelling of which had to do with children’s health. The most persuasive concern among voters surveyed was the direct connection between asthma and air pollution. Safer options for walking, biking and transit could help reduce triggers for dangerous asthma attacks and reduce childhood asthma.

    @4 There’s some stuff in that poll that seems kind of strange.

    “Doing nothing costs money. The state had to reduce the number of passengers who can ride our ferries because the weight of the average adult passenger has gone up by twenty five pounds in recent years. This means more ferry runs to serve the same number of people, costing the state millions of dollars.”

    WTF? What’s up with all the ferry boat passengers getting fat in “recent years”?

    “Prevention saves money. In the last two years King County saved sixty one million dollars in health care costs by encouraging county employees to make healthier decisions. A transportation system that offers healthier options will save our state money.”

    How’d they come up with that? With 18,000 employees, that’s $3,500 saved for each employee. How exactly was any county money saved? Did the cost of insurance go down or something?

    The ferry systems actually lowered the number of people that ferries can handle because of the average weight of people going up.

    I didn’t pay that much attention to most of the polling, it’s the underlying idea of taking human health into consideration when doing transportation planning that I think is a good idea.

    But now the public openly embraces circular thinking like, “Any country that squawks when we threaten to bomb it is a threat that needs to be wiped out.” Maybe I’m mistaken, but I have to believe that there was a time when ideas like that sounded weird to the American ear. Now they seem to make sense to almost everyone here at home, and that to me is just as a scary as Ahmadinejad.

    Ha! He can’t possibly deliver. If the U.S. raised its production by 2.5M bpd, OPEC could counter with production cuts. This is just the desperate pandering of a sinking candidate.

    WTF? What’s up with all the ferry boat passengers getting fat in “recent years”?
    I remember an anecdote from about 10 years back where the amount of passengers on the vashon island run passenger ferry had to be reduced because our butts were bigger than 20 years ago, and not as many could fit in the same space.
