UPDATE: Murphy resigns political posts; cooperating with police in apparent criminal investigation
Party chair says in letter resignation was for business reasons
The chairman of the Clark County Republican Party — who last month was elected president of the Young Republican National Federation — has resigned both posts, apparently in the wake of a criminal investigation.
On Tuesday afternoon, Glenn Murphy Jr. e-mailed media outlets a letter announcing his resignation from both positions, citing an unexpected business opportunity that would prohibit him from holding a partisan political office.
However, the Clark County Sheriff’s Department on Friday began investigating Murphy for alleged criminal deviate conduct — potentially a class B felony — after speaking with a 22-year-old man who claimed that on July 31, Murphy performed an unwanted sex act on him while the man slept in a relative’s Jeffersonville home.
Murphy, a 33-year-old Utica resident, has not been arrested nor has he been charged with a crime. A copy of the police report has been posted on an politically focused Internet site and another was provided to a reporter with The Evening News and The Tribune on Tuesday evening.
Larry Wilder, Murphy’s attorney, said Murphy is cooperating with police and Prosecutor Steve Stewart. Wilder said Murphy contends the sex act was consensual.
A reporter was unable to reach Stewart on Tuesday evening.
In 1998, a 21-year-old male filed a similar report with Clarksville police claiming Murphy attempted to perform a sex act on him while he was sleeping. Charges were never filed in that case.
Here’s why we can’t trust the military to police itself:
“SAN FRANCISCO, California (AP) — Official reprimands issued to three high-ranking Army officers are only mildly critical of their mistakes after the friendly fire death of Pat Tillman and at times praise the officers. The Army also said it would not include the reprimands in the officers’ military records, according to documents reviewed by The Associated Press.”
Owner Knew Mine Was Unsafe; Workers Couldn’t Complain
The owner of the Utah mine where those miners are trapped (and probably dead) is a lying cheap-labor scumbag:
“HUNTINGTON, Utah (CNN) — Some of the miners at Utah’s Crandall Canyon mine — including one of the men trapped by Monday’s cave-in — apparently were concerned about working in the area of the collapse, a source told CNN. … In recent weeks, the floors in that part of the mine had been … buckling up from intense pressure, said the source, who has intimate knowledge of the conditions in the mine. Supervisors at the mine knew of the problem, he said. …
“The mine’s operator said he was not aware of the safety concerns. ‘I’ve never heard that,’ Bob Murray, president and CEO of Murray Energy, told CNN …. ‘I’m not going to respond to rumors.’ …
“Asked why they did not complain about their safety concerns, several miners said complaining means the loss of a job. Murray denied that. ‘If you’re getting that from the community, then those miners must work for another mining company. I don’t operate that way,’ he said.
“Not so, said Paul Riddle, who used to work in one of Murray’s mines. ‘Always profits before safety, that’s … my experience,’ he said. Miners who work for Murray are sometimes forced to push the envelope when it comes to safety, he said, and are afraid to speak up for fear of being fired. ‘I’m not the only one,’ he said. ‘There are many, many people that feel this way and are afraid to speak up.'”

Quote from the story when he was elected to lead the YR:
Clark County’s Republican Party chairman has been elected head of the Young Republican National Federation.
Glenn Murphy Jr., a 33-year-old from Utica, was elected to the chairman’s post July 7 in Hollywood, Fla., and was sworn in later that day by Florida Gov. Charlie Crist. He led a slate of 13 executive officers that was elected 440-0.
“I will essentially be the mouthpiece and effective leader for the tens of thousands of Young Republicans, 18 to 40, across the country,” said Murphy, who took a vacation following the organization’s convention and returned to Clark County last weekend.
And there you have it … right from the horse’s mouth(piece).

The Washington Times this morning reported that an investigator for the INS has found the Attorney General Gonzales is in the United States illegally.
While Mr. Gonzales parents are American citizens, it now appears that he was adopted from a destitute Venezuelan woman, Maria Vargez. Unfortunately, the Gonzales family did not have money for a legal adoption so the AG remains legally a Venezuelan citizen. It appears that Mr. Gonzales knew this because the INS reports that he has corresponded with Ms. Vargez and sent her money for many years.
Seantor Patrick Leahy (D. Vermont, ch. Judiciary) has said that this saddens him but he now feels it is important to determine whether Mr. Bush, who once employed the young Alberto as a gardener ever paid social security taxes on those wages.
In the meantime, the Venezuelan government has said it would not accept Mr. Gonzales as acitizen since it regards him now as an enemy combatant. Hugo Chaves, the President of Veenzuela has counseled the US that they might consider putting Mr. Gonzales, who isa catholic, in Guantanmo as an ecnemy combatant. 3 posts on the subject, you’ve called me names but didn’t provide one link to a democrat/liberal raising money for the families of the troops. I didn’t you could. Thanks for playing along.
Frankly the decision here is hard because we can only see these people through the distorted glass of the media. My reasons for supporting BO are:
1. A number of people I admire have written very positive things about this man, esp. about the authenticity of his intellect and idealism. I have not seen anything similar for Edwards.
2. I consider classism the number one domestic issue facing us. While Edwards talks about poverty, that is, IMHO, a condescending liberal POV. I believe BO will work harder tha Edwards or Clinton to slow or reverse the classism that has developed since Reagan. While specifics are hard to come by, BO’s stand on merit pay and charter schools go down much better with me than anything i have heard from Edwards.
It seems to me that for someone who wants to be President of all the people, Edwards has made some strange life style choices.
3. I also believe we are going to need a leader who can be a world leader. BO seems to me to have that potential, as does HRC, more than Edwards. I can more easily imagine BO or HRC as a leader on his or her own right then I can Edwards. both have an international star power that we could all beenfit form.
4. The next President will nbeed to ask American public to make sacrifices. I have trouble imagining Edwards in that role.
Frankly, I think we are lucky to have such impressive choices.
38 – I agree we have some extraordinary choices. You may be right about Edward’s poverty frames. He probably could have talked about it differently. It seems at this point, it’s given him some traction with the midwest, rust-belt poor but little with the urban poor.
In any case, right now HRC is taking a lot of white liberal votes away from both Edwards and Obama.
IMO, it’s better than even odds that HRC will deliver another 4 years to the Republicans. That Republican will be the Hebert Hoover of this era and the Clinton legacy will be sealed in shame. I hope I’m totally wrong.
SJ – the American public has made sacrifices since the disaster that was Vietnam. We’re tired of sacrificing to aggrandize greed. If anyone’s going to pay for the sins of the ownership class it’s going to be the owners.

SJ – If Obama were elected it would be a great day in this country. It would do more to erase the ugly color barrier than just about anything.
I was for Obama but I’m leaning towards Edwards. I’m sure Barack is a quick learner and all but he still has a lot to learn. His organization seems a bit behind the curve in it’s handling of electoral politics. And I’m not happy with Obama’s DLC-style leanings.
At this point I’m more inclined to support a stronger progressive who has a shot and John Edwards is that guy for me.

The right wingers are far less vocal than they were two years ago. I guess two straight years of constantly being uncovered as frauds, cheats and liars put their tail between their legs.

Like I’ve said before, not a chance the racists in the democrat party would have a black man as president representing their party. I do believe it’s possible that Hillary will select him for VP (solely to pander to the blacks).
Only a few more months until I’m proven right.

Since this is a left-wing blog, this should be the best place to ask this question…
Sean Hannity has Freedom Concerts to raise money for the children/families of dead servicemen. Dr. Laura Schlessinger has her Operation Family Fund. Do any famous liberals/democrats, which of course support the troops, raise money for the families of deceased service personal?
YLB spews:
not a chance the racists in the democrat party
Bzzzzzt. Wrong Stamn. Ignorant remark. The racists went to the Republican Party.
Ever hear of the Southern Strategy?
Racists were ready to bolt the Dems at the first whiff of voting and civil rights legislation.
By the way have you ever supported a black man for President besides oh Alan Keyes?
YLB spews:
Wow Stamn those are great patriots and humanitarians there, Hannity and Schlessinger.
Two self-serving liars, frauds and staunch supporters of a war sold on lies and frauds.

This is so simple to prove I’m right, wait a couple months and see if the democrat primary voters vote white or black, or southern white.

You must have hit submit comment too quickly, you forgot to add the names of the democrats/liberals that support the troops.

Another ignorant remark Stamn. Only the most moronic of people choose a candidate on skin color and they’re all in your party – the Republicans.
If any Dems vote on skin color they are working for the Republicans just like you were probably paid to support Nader.
YLB spews:

the war you meant. Almost all Dems who supported the war were reluctant and felt compelled due to war frenzy. No excuse really but that’s politics.
However many voted against the war but again mostly because their seats were safe from challenge.
Maybe you can recall the names of some Republicans who voted against the war besides Ron Paul?
Ahhhh. Didn’t think so.
YLB spews:
wait a couple months and see
Why wait? You’re so sure of yourself you should be able to prove it NOW.
But you can’t because you’re talking out of your ass.

I thought the question was simple enough you could answer it. Let me try again-
Sean Hannity & Dr. Laura Schlessinger have fundraisers to raise money for the families of servicemen that died in the war. Do any liberals/democrats do the same?
I understand you don’t like the war in Afghanistan or Iraq, that’s not the question. Do liberals/democrats give more than lip service to the families of our troops?
Marvin Stamn spews:

I can’t prove it now. I will wait until you and your ilk vote, the proof will be in the votes cast. Why are you worried?
YLB spews:
Do liberals/democrats give more than lip service to the families of our troops?
Absolutely! Dems contribute daily to the welfare of the families of the troops in countless ways.
You morally bankrupt fool – you glom onto two right-wing reprobates. You’re a liar Stamm. You’re not only a Republican, you’re a neo-con. You wouldn’t have talked up these two clowns if you weren’t.
I can’t prove it now.
Didn’t think so. You’re talking out of your ass.
Why are you worried?
Not worried at all.

Amusing double-bind you attempt to put Democrats in. If Obama is elected, it is because Democrats want to “pander to blacks.” If he is not, it’s because “Democrats are racists.”
Sorry, pal, it’s none of the above. Just like who is currently winning the Republican nomination.

3 posts on the subject, you’ve called me names but didn’t provide one link to a democrat/liberal raising money for the families of the troops. I didn’t you could. Thanks for playing along.

@22 YLB
Edwards vs. Obama.
