Drinking Liberally — Seattle!

DLBottleToday is Tuesday. And for Seattle that means “Drinking Liberally night.” So please join us this evening for conversations over a pint at the Seattle Chapter of Drinking liberally.

We meet tonight and every Tuesday at the Roanoke Park Place Tavern, 2409 10th Ave E, Seattle. You’ll find us out on the back patio. We start at 8:00pm.

Chapters of Living Liberally are all over the place…if you can’t make it to the Seattle chapter, stop by another chapter near you.

Deferred Maintenance

If you noticed that this shitty old blog had gotten even shittier recently (really slow or not responding at all), it’s because I hadn’t updated the server it was running on for over 11 years, and had totally forgotten how to do anything at the Linux command line. Well… I think (hope) that’s been fixed. I still don’t know much about Linux, but I’ve managed to migrate the site to a spanking new server. Yay me!

Anyways, chances are you may have lost a few comments over the past couple days and I’ve disabled unsupported plugins so some functionality might be gone. Maybe permanently. Thems the breaks. But I think (hope) this shitty old site should be responsive again. So enjoy doing whatever it is you still do in the comment threads.

UPDATE:
So, the upgrade seemed to fix the original issues. Yay! But it broke my aged, hand-coded, customized theme. Fortunately, Darryl helped talk me through Linux, and after a little trouble-shooting we found a single line of bad code, which means, alas, for the moment, no comment numbers.

Okay, things are not going so great. Doing further maintenance.

Okay, things got really fucked, the comment database got corrupted (you know, just like the commenters), and I had to reinstall. The result is that we lost the last couple days of comments. Oops. Can’t guarantee it won’t happen again, so use at your own risk.

Almost called it Monday, but fortunately I corrected it before I hit post so Darryl didn’t have to fix my basic calendar mistake this time. Anyway:

– Trump repealing the roadless rule would be very bad indeed.

– Tacoma Children’s Hospital not doing gender affirming care is gross.

– Seattle can pump the breaks on more surveillance.

– I tried, but I can’t get into men’s soccer in the US. But congrats to the Sounders and booooooo to Inter Miami specifically.

– The people who had to be involved with ICE taking wildland firefighters off of an active fireshould all, at a minimum, lose their jobs.

Man, how is it so hot? Go drink a glass of water. Right now. Iced coffee or whatever is nice, but have some water now.

My apartment doesn’t have AC and there isn’t enough heat to justify getting it, but every year it gets worse. Damn you heat trapping properties of carbon and the urban heat island. We have until tomorrow night and then the worst is over. Hopefully no new wild fires.
