Besides funding increases and much needed transit governance reform in the Chicagoland region , a recent bill signed by Governor Pritzker looks to redefine one leg of the now former Northeastern Illinois RTA, METRA Commuter Rail, into a Regional Rail operation no longer centered around 9 to 5 commute. Also improvements to transit Downstste, and Intercity Rail now eligible. Not just an expansion of the current State supported corridors, Hiawatha/Borealis to Milwaukee and the Twin Cities, Illinois Zephyr/Carl Sandburg to Quincy, Lincoln Corridor to St Louis, and Illini/Saluki to Carbondale, but the planned services to Rockford and the Quad Cities. The Downstate votes they needed in the Legislature should have pushed for a cross state line downstate. Looking at rail maps, Springfield-Decatur-Urbana-Danville looks best bet, could continue to Indianapolis.

    The Governance reform replaces the RTA with the new Northern Illinois Transit Authority. The current RTA is oversight and finance, CTA, PACE, and METRA have boards that set fares, service levels, and schedules. METRA wanted to provide a frequent option to Chicago residents on two networks in South Chicago, the Rock Island District and Metra Electric District to match Chicago Transit Authority fares. Mayor Lightfoot opposed it, and under Illinois law at the time, she was right to do it, maybe even obligated. Since the RTA was formed, Illinois agencies had to hit 50% farebox recovery. NITA authority reduces it to 25%. The MED and it’s branches have been proposed over the years as conversion to CTA Rapid Transit lined. NITA will set fares and schedules and greater oversight of the service boards.

    One thing NITA should look into is boosting ridership by looking into converting to a form of S-Bahn/RER. Right now all the Chicago commuter trains terminate at 4 unconnected stations. Besides Union, there is the Ogilvie Transportation Center, LaSalle Street, and Millennium. An S-Bahn Tunnel would allow for run through services.

    Also, looks like the NITA will be banned from entering into non-compete agreements, so the South Shore will be allowed to pick up passengers traveling within Illinois on the MED. Currently prohibited.

    The texts, first reported by the Washington Post, were released Wednesday as part of roughly 20,000 pages of documents made public by the House Oversight Committee.

    The released text messages redact the name of the person Epstein was texting with on February 27, 2019 — the day former Trump personal attorney Michael Cohen testified to the House Oversight Committee about the president’s conflicts of interests, business practices and payments to Trump’s alleged mistresses to silence their stories before the 2016 elections.

    The Washington Post analyzed the text messages and compared them to footage of the hearing to report Plaskett was texting Epstein.

    Epstein had ties to the US territory because he maintained a home on Little St. James in the Virgin Islands, which he acquired in 1998, and purchased nearby Great St. James in 2016, according to a lawsuit filed in 2020.

    The actual criminal activity behind “The Epstein Files” involved the recruitment, and the buying and the selling of children for the purpose of torturing and raping them.

    This activity is now known to have been going on actively and consistently over a period of many years spanning from the mid 1990s at least until Epstein’s arrest and incredible sweetheart plea deal in 2008 under Republican President George W. Bush. Very credible reports indicate that these rapes and other transactions were conducted in Palm Beach Florida, on an island in the Carribean, perhaps on board a large private jet, and possibly in New York, and would have involved dozens and possibly hundreds of children. The public and non-public information are convincing enough to have triggered the absolutely unprecedented stripping of all titles and privileges of a Royal Prince of England and one-time second in line to the throne.

    These are horrific and terrible crimes that were obviously never properly prosecuted.
