I have said it before. Tariffs can be part of sound industrial policy. Even rather large ones. But they shouldn’t be the entire policy. So yeah, when they hurt industries, and there isn’t a whole suite of policies offsetting that, it’s just garbage. I worry Trump’s gross incompetence could hurt future politicians’ ability to do it right.

    Well the collapse of shipping arrivals has it’s predicted effect. First it was Mack now Volvo announces 800 layoffs in their US Based Trucking manufacturing.

    And poof go the manufacturing jobs. Trucks aren’t going to be getting the depreciation and wear and tear of regular use and need parts or replacement at nearly the rate assumed two years ago so no need to build new trucks that can’t be sold.

    You should be cheering TSLA and Musk’s relationship with the DJT47 administration. Why? Because without the government subsidies TSLA would have lost money in Q1, did you know that?

    Now, think of what will happen to everything else EV and, indeed, everything else battery storage-related if DJT47 was to completely pull the plug on subsidies.

    Yes, that would hurt TSLA and would really hurt the share price, you are correct. But think of what it would do to all of TSLA’s competitors. Like Ford, which lost $3B a year ago trying to make EVs.

    If you really, truly believe TSLA will tank, you will rotate into Big Oil, and if you don’t rotate to support ICE’s (the motor one, not the illegal alien one) future, you’re just blowing smoke about TSLA’s short-term challenges.
