Wednesday?!

by Carl Ballard — Wednesday, 4/2/25, 8:10 am

– Should you honk your horn? I know there can be safety issues, but honestly I don’t think cars ought to come with horns.

– The Tacoma ICE facility man, get your shit together, and the legislature ought to pass House Bill 1232.

– Spokane Valley, stop helping ICE be asssholes.

– Windmill Farms should recognize its union.

– Good news for people who like writing and calling people. You can contact your legislator or member of Congress.

Ontario Premier Doug Ford said he stands ready to remove retaliatory tariffs on U.S. products if Trump cancels heavy American import duties on Canadian goods.

“We’re willing to take these tariffs off, like in the next minute, if he said he’s taking their tariffs off,” Ford told CNBC’s “Squawk Box.”

That’s Canada promising to remove current tariffs if DJT47 does not impose a retaliatory tariff.

The US hasn’t done anything yet, but Canada has already caved.

I have spewed about it previously, with links. Having trouble finding it because searches for “washington” and “breastfeeding” end up showing me the US House kerfluffle and not WA state stuff.

Did she step out to breast feed or to pump?

It was a WA state legislative committee meeting, with closely divided membership in attendance. A GOP member (this being silly season I need to point out that she is a biological woman) stepped out to nurse, and a female (also a biologic woman) Dem member attempted to use the brief absence of her opponent to hold a vote in order to capitalize on the advantage that nature had given her, albeit so briefly. Her Democrat colleaguocrates, to their credit, would not allow the vote to take place.

Perhaps Welfare Queen YLB can find it. I’ll keep looking.

Ask and ye shall receive, motherfuckers:

State Democrats rush a vote as GOP Senator steps away to nurse her baby

    It’s from 2013.

During a mid-afternoon session, as the Senate was debating a routine series of bills, Holmquist Newbry left the floor to care for her four-month-old son Makaio, who had been brought to the women’s lounge off the Senate floor. Sen. Jim Honeyford, R-Sunnyside, moved to excuse Holmquist Newbry from voting. That meant the majority coalition had 24 votes, not 25, and they were tied at least temporarily with the Senate Democratic Caucus.

Sen. David Frockt, D-Seattle, took advantage of the moment. He rose to demand an immediate vote on a bill sponsored by a Democrat that did not appear on the afternoon schedule.

The unusual motion quieted the chamber. Members rushed to their seats. Frockt demanded a roll-call vote. The assumption was that Lt. Gov. Brad Owen, a Democrat, would cast a tiebreaking vote to advance the bill to the floor.

Members of the Senate Democratic Caucus voted yes as their names were called. Members of the Majority Coalition Caucus voted no. And just in time, Holmquist Newbry emerged from the lounge to cast her vote. The motion failed 25-24.

    I misremembered a few things.

It was a Democrat buttery male who called for the vote but he did so on a woman colleague’s bill. Because she had not been successful up to that point:

Smith says the bill they were rushing a vote on wasn’t particularly important but Democrats wanted to push it through because the person behind it hadn’t had any legislative success so far this session.

I also gave Democrats credit for preventing the vote, which I should have realized was giving POS Democrats credit for possessing a spine, which zero WA Democrats possess. The vote was held, and only because the GOP mother finished nursing and returned in time to cast her vote was the vote unsuccessful.

    Okay.

So seven years before the Trump Death Virus killed a million Americans who sat too close to each other at work.

And therefore seven years before ZOOM transformed every kind of official, public proceeding from water board meetings to federal court proceedings.

In other words, yes (he says slowly and pedantically) while this is an example of a Democrat none of us ever heard of doing a shitty thing, it actually has nothing at all to do with what Republicans are doing right now.

The world has been transformed in lots of ways since then. And one of them is that proxy and remote proceedings have become routine. We no longer force people to be “in-person” for everything like we used to. We learned (we were forced to by a Republican administration who insisted on pretending that people were not dying) that the world did not come to an end just because we can’t smell the atrocious coffee breath of that bailif or city council member. We allow federal filings remotely. We allow contracts to be signed electronically. And we let all kinds of legislative and judicial actions to proceed remotely.

Today, in the actual real world that we all live in (not in that Magical MAGA Time Musheen of yours) there is nothing that should preclude a nursing mother from attending and casting a vote remotely except that Republicans are just assholes.

(See, e.g., Texas Gov. Rick Perry groveling to President Obama for federal funds after defunding his state’s wildfire fighting capabilities.)

The logical fallacy of these arguments is that states don’t have the federal government’s tax base. Nor do they have the ability to shift funds from rich states (blue) to poor states (red). It’s the red states that will suffer most from federal defunding.

From my point of view, the benefits are incalculable.

First and foremost, I won’t pay this tax. My money goes into stocks, not shop-til-you-drop. Dudes paying an extra $15,000 for the pickups they fly their Trump flags from is fine with me.

Raising taxes is a good thing. America has been living beyond its means. We need to reduce deficits. Deficits are inflationary. Deficits as a percentage of GDP are at a historic high, and rising interest payments on the debt threaten social spending.

If we raise taxes, I personally prefer taxing consumption to taxing income, because I have a lot of income and don’t consume much. I’m thrilled that Trumpers are volunteering to pay higher taxes.

If the flood of revenue from Trump’s tariffs balances the budget, we won’t have to listen to Republicans whine about balancing the budget anymore, which has grown tiresome, and they won’t have that excuse to slash spending on things like school lunches and Medicaid anymore.

Cutting off Chinese imports at the knees is great! No longer will our money be used to fund China’s military buildup to invade Taiwan or seize the South China Sea.

Although I feel for our Canadian friends, I drink Jack Daniels myself. I have nothing against Canadian whiskey; I simply like Jack’s better. And now that we’ll be exporting a lot less Jack Daniels, there’ll be more for me.

To be sure, the outsized layoff plans haven’t made their way into other jobs data.

Weekly unemployment claims have held in a fairly tight range since President Donald Trump took office. Payroll growth has slowed a bit from its pace in 2024 but is still positive, while job openings have receded but only to around their pre-pandemic levels.

215k federal job cuts in March.

However, the Washington, D.C., area has been hit particularly hard by the announced layoffs, which have totaled 278,711 year to date for the city, according to the report.

And yet payroll growth has remained positive overall, despite the carnage to people who owe their jobs (and donate exclusively) to the Democrat party.

@122 Have you looked recently at what the gold market thinks of cash? There appear to be no safe haven assets right now. Except hoarding coffee might be a smart move.

The U.S. grows no coffee. Our climate isn’t conducive for it. Steep tariffs on imported coffee beans won’t create a single U.S. job. Nevertheless,

The price of coffee could be set to soar for Americans after the president on Wednesday announced tariffs on countries worldwide, including steep rates on Brazil, Colombia and Indonesia ― from where the U.S. buys the majority of its unroasted coffee beans.

    https://www.huffpost.com/entry/first-tariff-mornings-trump-reaction_n_67ee49cce4b04834ca710c50

Trump isn’t targeting imported goods that compete with U.S. manufacturers. He’s targeting countries. That means he’s tariffing everything coming into the U.S. from those places. Coffee beans, cocoa, bananas, it doesn’t matter whether or not we make or grow it.

Florida’s lax gun laws reap another bitter harvest.

    https://www.aol.com/florida-deputy-killed-shootout-dollar-153804258.html

At approximately 2 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon, deputies received a call from a Dollar General store … stating there was an individual “causing a disturbance and needed to be trespassed from the scene,” [Sheriff] Adkinson said during a press conference on Wednesday evening. …

Upon arriving on the scene, [Deputy] May made contact with the suspect and proceeded to have a “brief conversation” with the individual, Adkinson said. “Within 10 seconds of the suspect walking out of the store with Deputy May behind him, that suspect drew a firearm and fired multiple rounds, striking Deputy Will May,” Adkinson said. …

Officials are investigating whether the suspect’s gun was legally purchased, but Adkinson said the individual did have a concealed weapons permit and additional weapons in his residence. Police said the suspect had been living in the area for the past several years and authorities had dealings with him previously, but only for minor issues like welfare checks, Adkinson said.

You gotta wonder if someone who’s a constant subject of welfare checks should be running around armed to the teeth; but that’s the Extreme Court and Republican gun laws for you.

Biden and Obama’s abuse of taxpayers is truly shocking. Now Biden has a Solyndra problem. Just like Obama, Biden blew billions of your taxpayer $$ on energy companies now going bankrupt. Several energy companies that got big loans from the Biden administration’s $400 billion green energy slush pot loan program are reportedly facing difficulties and potential bankruptcy. Li-Cycle Holdings, a battery recycling company, got a $375 million loan commitment but has warned investors about its potential bankruptcy. It got that loan within days of Biden losing to Trump, as part of the $20 billion in loans that were rushed out the door before Trump took office.

CEO Ajay Kochhar reportedly worried his company couldn’t afford to repay, but Biden officials pressured him to take the money according to reports. Biden’s green energy loan czar Jigar Shah according to the Wall Street Journal told its top officials to “get your ass to Pittsburgh“ in order to get the loan. Sunnova Energy got a $3 billion loan guarantee, and is also on the verge of bankruptcy. Plug Power, another recipient of a $1.6 billion loan guarantee, has announced layoffs. The Energy Dept’s Inspector General already warned about massive potential fraud in this energy loan program.

It has been successfully argued in pretrial briefs leading to a dismissal that under Hutchinson analysis speech and debate immunity extends broadly to official communications about matters of legislative interest.

Now that we can drunkenly share classified details about ongoing defense operations in group chats on our iPhones it’s a safe conclusion that even a private Twitter account is “official” if a member says so.

The goal of a SLAPP suit is to get discovery. That’s the feature that intimidates.
But the problem for Taibi, MAGA, and the Nazi Fucktard is that you don’t progress to disco until questions about immunity are settled and appeals of those questions are exhausted. It’s very unlikely that any determination of actual malice ever happens in a case where a mortally wounded serial rapist snowflake sues a member.

And of course Taibi knows this and that’s why he’s content to performatively file and forget. He can’t afford civil discovery digging through his sexual history and financial entanglement with foreign spy agencies.

@157 Truth is a defense, and when you’re being sued by a liar, the next best thing is using his own words against him:

Taibbi cut his teeth as a journalist in Russia, doing stints at the Moscow Times and then at an alternative rag called the eXile. … Here’s how Taibbi described the eXile’s mission in a 1999 memoir he co-authored with fellow editor Mark Ames, called “Exile: Sex, Drugs and Libel in the New Russia”:

“We were going to tell the truth. Which was that the country was being run by killers and swine who had stolen everything they could get their hands on, and sent the whole country reeling into such chaos that people in the provinces were eating each other out of boredom and desperation.”

But the memoir, co-written by Taibbi and his fellow eXile editor Mark Ames, also describes some pig-like behavior of their own. Outtakes from the memoir quoted in a Chicago Reader story describe Taibbi and Ames harassing and even assaulting female coworkers.

    https://www.cascadepbs.org/2017/10/matt-taibbis-past-comes-back-to-haunt-him

The liar part? Taibbi now claims his memoir is “satire” and “fiction.”

Here’s an interesting question: If someone falsely claims to have sexually harassed women in order to sell books to make money, and then sues someone else for libel for alluding to the fiction he wrote about himself, can he recover damages? Didn’t the alleged harm result from self-libel?

Do any of you imagine the Nazi Fucktard is a big DIYer?

Like built his own plywood shack, Whole Earth solar powered well, grows his own everything, isolationist prepper? Dick Proenneke with a gen set that he fuels with corn liquor?

    Yeah. Me either.
Sounds like he heads to Costco all the time. When his well tweaks out he calls a guy. When the roof leaks he calls a guy. When the horse starts shaking and falls over he calls a guy. Just like everyone else, right?

Because it makes sense. He’s a semi-qualified radiation tech. He has some special skills. He doesn’t know how to fix the pressure switch on his well pump or patch a roof. Most people don’t. We all benefit from that kind of specialization. It makes society way more productive and raises everyone’s standard of living. But it also makes us all depend on each other.

The plumber shows up and knows within the first five minutes what the problem is with Fucktard’s well pump. Has the part on board. Has it fixed in 30 minutes. Fucktard would spend a week and replace everything but the pump. But when the plumber needs a knee X-ray the Fucktard is ready to go and hopefully doesn’t botch it too badly. Everyone’s a winner. It’s a real big advantage being in a modern society where some people are plumbers and some people are rad techs. People get to focus on what they are (hopefully) good at and that makes everyone more productive.

So here’s to the degenerate retired rad tech in his exciting new life relying entirely on his own wits to fix the broken washing machine and fuel his gas stove with his very own horse shit methane generator.
    I guess.
Sounds pretty miserable if you ask me.

    In little-noticed news today,

Donald Trump has been ordered by a judge in England to pay more than £620,000 in legal costs after unsuccessfully suing a company over denied allegations he took part in “perverted” sex acts.

The US president brought a data protection claim against Orbis Business Intelligence, a consultancy founded by a former MI6 officer, Christopher Steele, in 2022. Steele authored the report known as the Steele dossier ….

Mrs Justice Steyn threw out the claim in February last year … and ordered Trump to pay Orbis’s costs “of the entire claim” including an initial payment of £290,000, which a hearing in January was told Trump had “decided not to pay”.

That led to him being prevented from taking part in a three-day hearing to decide the size of the total legal bill, after which Judge Rowley on Thursday ordered the US president to pay £626,058.98.

HA Commenting Policy

It may be hard to believe from the vile nature of the threads, but yes, we have a commenting policy. Comments containing libel, copyright violations, spam, blatant sock puppetry, and deliberate off-topic trolling are all strictly prohibited, and may be deleted on an entirely arbitrary, sporadic, and selective basis. And repeat offenders may be banned! This is my blog. Life isn’t fair.
