Locally, Representative Bill Hinkle hates children. Or at least thinks that children of non-citizens don’t deserve education and health care.
Gary Randal gives us a review of a show by the Seattle Men’s Chorus that he hasn’t seen.
Consumers Against Higher Insurance Rates is an Astroturf organization and they are sponsoring a bullshit referendum to repeal recently passed consumer protection.
Nationally, it’s been mentioned here on HA, but the biggest bullshit artist of them all, Dick Cheney, is not a member of the executive any more. Oddly during the energy task force, he had said that he could claim executive privilege.
James Inhofe has a bit of a truth problem. He overheard a conversation the other day that happened 3 years ago. And the people who supposedly took part in the conversation don’t recall it. And shockingly, he’s the less crazy of the two Oklahoma Senators this week.
And internationally, China has surpassed the United States in total carbon emissions. This is mainly because they have 4 times our population and because much of the West has exported manufacturing to them. A normal person would see this as a reason to make sure that our trade agreements have strong environmental components. Crazy people see this as a time to gloat.

The fact that there are enforcement mechanisms for intellectual property violations and other corporate gifts are still in our trade agreements but not environmental protections is the problem. The most obvious thing is to refuse to import things that are made in such a way that they pollute worse than they would here at home. So, some things I would write into our trade agreements, just on the environmental side:
1) Tariffs on products made in environmentally unfriendly ways.
2) Ban importation of any products made in ways that are particularly environmentally bad.
3) Beef up inspections of imports to make sure they don’t contain toxins.
Also, not for our trade agreements, but a good idea would be to have
4) a public certification process similar to the EPA’s energy star system.
This is off the top of my head.

Or Headlice you can be like Jean Chretien of Canada who signed it knowing he could never meet it’s levels.
“While it’s obvious Canada’s previous Liberal government bought a pig in a poke when it signed the Kyoto accord, it’s nice to have it confirmed.
By Eddie Goldenberg, former prime minister Jean Chretien’s top aide, no less.
Last week, Goldenberg told a London audience the Liberals knew they couldn’t implement Kyoto when they signed it in 1998 and ratified in 2002, but that it was necessary to push public opinion towards accepting implementation of the controversial treaty on global warming.”

Will Dino Rossi Demand A $500 Million Stadium For His Team?
Erstwhile GOP gubernatorial candidate Dino Rossi and retired Mariners slugger Jay Buhner have teamed up to buy a minority interest in the Everett AquaSox, a minor league baseball team.
Now why would the Carfagna family, which also owns two other minor league, want a Republican politician as a business partner? I can understand Buhner, but why Rossi?

Ever been to an Aquasox game? They play in Everett Memorial Stadium, which is attached to the high school on the south side of town, and seems perfectly adequate to the task to this untrained observer. Actually I would be OK if the Frogs managed to wrangle $500 million to spend on facilities in the Everett school district. Heck, I might even see if I could get my grandkids moved up there.
I read that story a couple of months ago and ended up scratching my head. Why would they want Rossi in ownership (I mean really)? I wouldn’t trust the guy with a plugged nickel. But then owning a baseball team might just be the new stepping stone to the Presidency.
Roger Rabbit spews:
PDC Investigates Rossi Campaign Finances
“OLYMPIA, Wash. – Washington state Democrats on Monday accused … Dino Rossi, of using his nonprofit Forward Washington Foundation to finance an ongoing campaign and to pay himself a $75,000 annual salary.
“The state Public Disclosure Commission will review the 64-page complaint to see if there were any violations of campaign disclosure laws. …
“Rossi heatedly replied that he’s not a declared candidate for anything and that the Democrats falsely allege that he’s raising and spending money for a 2008 rematch with Gregoire. … ‘Their whole argument is based on how somehow I am a declared candidate. Well, I’m not,’ he said. …
“‘Dino Rossi is paying himself — with cash from special interests he refuses to disclose — to run a sham, tax-free organization to campaign for governor,’ Democratic state chairman Dwight Pelz said in a statement released with the PDC complaint. …
“Rossi … dismissed the accusations as unfounded and outrageous. ‘The thing is, I’m a private citizen and I’m not a declared candidate for any race,’ he said. … He confirmed the salary figure ….
“Vicki Rippie, PDC executive director, said the watchdog agency will ‘review the complaint and try to determine if the assertions, if true, would constitute violations.’ Asked if Rossi is officially … a candidate for governor in 2008, she said, ‘He has filed a registration form that leads us to believe he is a candidate in ’08.”

Actually I don’t know squat about Buhner’s politics, but I would guess he leans Republican. I remember an article from the Bret Boone days (in the context of the 2004 elections, I think) that showed a preponderance of Republicans among Mariers players. Something like 18-7 among those polled.
I suppose this makes a certain amount of sense. These guys are in the money, after all (the lowest paid Mariner makes more money than I see in three) and are part of a highly traditional activity.

“’I’m personally opposed, as many citizens are, to taxpayer dollars being used for non-citizen health insurance. But regardless of where you stand on that issue, it’s clear this approach is unfair and demoralizing to working families who are struggling to pay private health insurance premiums,’ said Hinkle.”
Let me get this straight. CHEAP LABOR CONSERVATIVES like Hinkle are against raising the minimum wage above $5.15 an hour, and they’re against government regulation of health insurance companies, and they’re against taxpayer-funded health care. The result of these CHEAP LABOR policies is that 47 million American citizens don’t have health coverage.
So they use the fact that their CHEAP LABOR policies demoralize American working families as a justification to deny health coverage to non-citizen children, too.
Lewis Carroll had nothing on these guys.

Well, I’m both a fan and a taxpayer, and I feel plenty fleeced every time I buy a ticket. That’s one reason I go see Aquasox games, even if they are owned in part by Slick Dino. The tickets are $10 or less and I can still bring in my own water.

Bullshit? What did you expect when he’s got his head up his horse’s ass?
DG provided final proof of left-wing suck syndrome on Sunday when he shut down a caller’s demonstration of Clinton’s lethal lies in Kosovo. Thousands of civilians were collaterally damaged to death by our bombs (and NATO R Us, as a smart horse’s ass like Goldy surely knows) dropped from 20,000 feet.
The lies that made possible our ethnic cleansing of inconvenient civilians were slam-dunk settled by Benjamin Schwartz in The Atlantic **. Schwartz shows that situational pacifist Tony Lewis of the New York Times cherry-picked anti-Serb propaganda to pump up his warmonger mania, then exaggerated the cherrypicked intel to impel Clinton into an undeclared, elective, preemptive mad-bomber campaign that was almost totally divorced from America’s national interest. Clinton repeated Lewis’s lies.
Also check Newsweek, late 1998, which sedulously and credulously repeated Clinton’s assertions that Saddam Hussein had WMD and that Saddam would use them. That’s why Clinton committed America to a policy of regime change. Newsweek’s subtext thruout was that America and the world were so imperiled by Saddam that we couldn’t afford the distraction of impeachment over trifling matters of perjury and obstruction of justice. An undistracted C in C was needed when we were dangling on the cusp of catastrophe.
** That’s the issue from two or three years ago with Michaelangelo’s David on the cover, and that would be the real David, not the screeching little pouf who contaminates KIRO on Saturday and Sunday eves.
But, to be fair and balanced, faux David sometimes tries to tell the truth. Thanks for affirming what many of us suspected: Mike Webb’s nuts. And thanks for setting us straight about lefty little Mercer Island elitist Dave Ross. Silly me for not knowing that neo-socialist Ross isn’t a leftist; he’s a centrist.
(Hope I spelled Schwartz correctly, because he’s not part of the half-vast right-wing conspiracy. In addition to being a big man at the Atlantic, he writes often for The Nation, The Progressive, etc. As a lonely leftist truth-teller, he was joined once by Michael — big daddy of the excellent film “Fatso” — Moore who, in Bowling for Columbine, connected the dots between Clinton’s Balkan war and Kliebold’s war against Littleton, Colorado.)
