The corruption runs very, very deep. Hear the radio attack ad Republicans are running against David Iglesias in New Mexico. Some weird mix of parody and infamy. But give it a listen. As I said, the depth of the moral corruption of the GOP at the moment is profound. And it shows itself in both the contemporary (bribery and self-dealing) and Early Modern (bodily and moral decay) senses of the word.

Feinstein Resigns
Senator exits MILCON following Metro exposé, vet-care scandal
By Peter Byrne
SEN. Dianne Feinstein has resigned from the Military Construction Appropriations subcommittee. As previously and extensively reviewed in these pages, Feinstein was chairperson and ranking member of MILCON for six years, during which time she had a conflict of interest due to her husband Richard C. Blum’s ownership of two major defense contractors, who were awarded billions of dollars for military construction projects approved by Feinstein.
As MILCON leader, Feinstein relished the details of military construction, even micromanaging one project at the level of its sewer design. She regularly took junkets to military bases around the world to inspect construction projects, some of which were contracted to her husband’s companies, Perini Corp. and URS Corp.
Perhaps she resigned from MILCON because she could not take the heat generated by Metro’s expose of her ethics (which was partially funded by the Investigative Fund of the Nation Institute). Or was her work on the subcommittee finished because Blum divested ownership of his military construction and advanced weapons manufacturing firms in late 2005? http://www.metroactive.com/met.....-0712.html
The MILCON subcommittee is not only in charge of supervising military construction, it also oversees “quality of life” issues for veterans, which includes building housing for military families and operating hospitals and clinics for wounded soldiers. Perhaps Feinstein is trying to disassociate herself from MILCON’s incredible failure to provide decent medical care for wounded soldiers.

As for DAS LAG BRO, you’re right, she steered billions to her husband – not herself.
That means she couldn’t possibly benefit from the income.
You people really do have the brains of 14 year olds.
If I can show that Feinstein benefited from any of her husbands money, will you concede that she deserves jail time?

TypicalLefty, please explain to us how Feinstein could have been chairperson of the Military Construction Appropriations subcommittee for six years when the Republicans controlled Congress? Wouldn’t the Chair of the subcommittee have been a Republican?
One of the reasons I ask is that, so far, the only references I can find to this conflict of interest are on what appear to be right-wing conspiracy-theory type Web sites.
I’m not saying a conflict of interest doesn’t exist. I’m just saying I’d like to see more proof.
And if it does exist, I’ll support calls for her resignation if you’ll support calls for Cheney’s resignation.
Oh, and Bush, too, since his family is very heavily involved in the Carlyle Group.

Let’s check your math to see if it passes the reasonableness sniff test.
5,207,425 abortions in 4 years is about 1.3 million per year.
Population of the US is about 300,000,000, more or less equally divided between men and women, so 150,000,000 women. If half of them are of child-bearing age, that’s 75,000,000.
That means 1 in every 58 women of child-bearing age is having an abortion, and they are doing it every year.
But since that’s unlikely (that all of them have had four abortions in the last four years), let’s assume that each one only has one abortion. That means 1 in every 15 women of child-bearing age has had an abortion in the last four years.
Sniff test says this smells like bullshit. Stop getting your “data” from Rush.
