    Nobody wants to “debate” a pathological liar. There is no point in it.

    Case in point. Repeating an old chestnut doesn’t render it truthy. George Bush had such briefings simply because he was functionally illiterate and couldn’t understand the larger, multisyllabic words. He had to have things explained to him at the third grade level. In any case, he never attended them until after 9/11. He just didn’t care enough.

    At any rate, I’ve had a few very interesting conversations with a couple of the Veterans at school over the last couple of weeks. One thing that has been mentioned, was that several of the snipers they had captured or killed in Iraq in 2004 and 2005 were identified as IDF special forces personnel, and they were immediately released into Israeli custody as soon as they were identified. These were snipers that were killing American soldiers and Marines. This wasn’t about mistaken identity, they had cameras on their rifles to record the kills they were making. They knew exactly who they were shooting at. Those videos were making the rounds amongst the various bases until the Bush administration ordered them all confiscated and classified.

    Iraq was, and continues to be a total shitstorm. As much of a rotten bastard Hussein was, we should have let Iraq be. We’re going to have to garrison the whole fucking region for the next century. We’re going to end up like the French did in Vietnam, or worse.

    At this point, with the imminent collapse of the Saudi Regime, and the Saudi, Yemeni and Q’taran support for the ISIL, the Turks buying petroleum from the ISIL through pipelines built and maintained by KBR and Koch Industries, coupled with the Iranian support for the Iraqi government and the Kurds, there is a huge shift in alliances happening right now and none of it is being reported in the press. Israel played us, but good, and this whole thing just might blow up in their faces.

    This isn’t going to be kept quiet for much longer, the Vets I’ve been talking to are saying that there are several thousand people amongst their fellows that are going to start making huge noises about this shit. They still talk amongst themselves, and they are fucking pissed off. The level of sheer fuckery that the Bush Administration pulled off in direct violation of nearly every domestic and international law is staggering. The corpse is really starting to stink, and can’t be kept buried for much longer.

In the scientific debate over climate change, there’s more data coming in all the time, new studies, etc., and ongoing debate about what it all means. But that’s worlds apart from conservatives’ stupid uninformed stonewalling on the issue, which is motivated not by a quest for truth or knowledge, but by a rigid ideology that seeks to paint itself with a patina of respectability by mislabeling willful ignorance as “disagreement.” You and your ilk are not disagreeing with the science, but ignoring it, which isn’t the same thing. You aren’t debating, you’re lying. You’re dishonest about it; and, that being the case, you don’t deserve equal time or even short shrift; you deserve no shrift. The rest of us are justified in cutting off the mic and kicking climate deniers off the stage because they’re wasting everybody’s time with bullshit.

    The fashionable thing among conservatives is to ask, “Do you believe in global warming (interchange with climate change.)?” I love this question because so many of these people are also deeply religious, or at least claim to be.

    They can’t fathom that science and faith are separate. It would make just as much sense to ask, “Do you believe water is wet?” or “Do you believe the Earth revolves around the sun?” To answer in the negative is to say, “Despite everything that is observable, testable and proven by scientific study, No, I do not believe.”

    Anyone who asks, “Do you believe in Climate Change?” needs to be laughed out of any discussion. To paraphrase Barney Frank, “I have no wish to debate you on this issue because talking to you is as useful as talking to a table. None of my evidence will matter to you because you assume on faith alone that you cannot possibly be wrong.”

    The only acceptable answer, although observable science is making it constantly less acceptable, to the question in opposition to actually doing something about climate change is, “Yes, I believe it is a real thing but I disagree with you that human behavior is a factor in the phenomenon.” (“When I place my hand in water, it gets wet, but you cannot prove to me that water is a significant factor in my wetness.”)

    That’s because all candidates run city-wide, which enables the white majority to elect only white candidates to the city council. The legal issue is whether this violates the Equal Protection clause. The solution would be dividing the city into council districts. Many know that they are one medical emergency or broken down car away from ruin, and they blame the government. They vote against their own interests, often hurting themselves in concrete ways, in a vain attempt to deal with their own, misguided shame about being poor.

    I didn’t become a liberal until I was nearly 40. I gladly pay taxes now, but this attitude is also rooted in self-interest. I have relatives who are poor, and without government services, I might have to support them. We can all go back to living in clans, like cavemen, or we can build institutions and programs that help people who need it. It seems like a great bargain to me.
