I’ve got an appointment this morning (apparently, it takes both parents these days, in person, to renew your child’s passport), so don’t expect much from me until after noon. So in the meanwhile, here’s your daily Daily Show.

    Mecca, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia

    In a striking move, intended to address American concerns about the building of an Islamic Center near to the 9/11 site, the Faisal ibn Hagoldy, Minister of Commercial Development, and Solomon Cohen, CEO of Burlington Coat Factory, have announce that Burlington will open a Burlington Burkha Factory in Mecca.

    Burlington, the owner of the site planned for the Islamic Center in NY, has agreed, in return for the access to Mecca to donate the site in NY, to Feisal Abdul Rauf, the Imam Behind the Islamic Cultural Center.

    Burlington’s press release states that the company sees this as “a golden opportunity to bring Burlington’s low prices ans quality to the expanding market of Muslim women who desire fashionable outer clothing that complies with Islamic law.”

    I don’t know about that, W. Goldy’s errands illustrate how screwed-up our government is when it comes to red tape and paperwork. Why do BOTH parents have to be there to renew a kid’s passport? The government has no concern at all with inconveniencing the very people it’s supposed to serve. Government has become the peoples’ master when it the situation was originally intended to be the reverse.

    My mom had a hell of a time getting her passport as she didn’t have a birth certificate (born on a farm in 1936) and her SSN didn’t match her age, didn’t get signed up until she couldn’t get into college without it.

    (Alternately, you can prove you have custody for the purposes of federal law, and that your ex sucks and won’t fill out the forms, and get a passport. This is, however, a pain in the ass, and ideally you’re on good enough terms with your ex to avoid this.)

    typically you have to get written permission from the other parent – and carry that written permission with you as proof.

    You may not necessarily need it, but its always good to have.

    Of course Goldy could have had his signature notarized by a regular notary, but that would have cost him $10. Going to the court clerk to execute the form in person didn’t cost him anything extra. Wonder which parent paid for the passport fees?

    The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Friday shows that 25% of the nation’s voters Strongly Approve of the way that Barack Obama is performing his role as president. Forty-four percent (44%) Strongly Disapprove, giving Obama a Presidential Approval Index rating of -19.

    If Israel attacks Iran, 51% of voters say the U.S. should help Israel. Two percent (2%) say the U.S. should help Iran and 35% say the U.S. should do nothing. Eighty-two percent (82%) believe that voters should be required to show photo ID before voting.

    Support for incumbent Democratic Senator Blanche Lincoln has now fallen to its lowest level yet as Republican John Boozman remains on track to shift Arkansas’ Senate seat to the GOP column.

    The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of Likely Voters in Arkansas shows Boozman capturing 65% of the vote, while Lincoln earns 27% support.

    A DEMOCRAT Incumbent now 38 points down.

    Turns out Wilson was correct…ImamObaMao is a LIAR!!
    Both statements are now proved to be clearly FALSE.
    ImamObaMao needed to smoke-and-mirrors the CBO to show it would lower the Deficit or it would not be PERMANENT. Now they are saying it will increase the Deficit…and that reinstating the Bush Tax Cuts will improve the economy.

    I go to the bank where I have a checking account. They notarize for free. The guy also tries to sell me a credit card, but I say “no thanks.” The bank doesn’t make any money off me.
