They say that there are now more homeless Viet Nam veterans than Americans killed in action there.
Judging by the number pan handlers, there are more “homeless Vietnam vets” than actually faught in the entire war.
Please, don’t be an idiot. The “high watermark” of our involvement was above 558,000 troops. The total serving was in excess of 750,000. KIA is generally given as 58,209 US casualties.
It is estimated that there are above 3.5 million people who are homeless. 39 per cent are children. The estimate is 10 percent of the homeless are veterans. That would make the estimated total of homeless vets above 300,000 people who Served This Country. These are the very troops the rightwing assholes are always shouting about “supporting”.
That above 58,000 men and women served in a shooting war and are homeless is nothing to sneer at.

I am a vet. I am not homeless. I would like to introduce to some homeless vets that I served with. Some of these men are too proud to accept help, some are too ill to know they need it. But if you care to call any of them a liar to their face, I would consider it an honor to kick your fucking ass all the way back to Texas. I was out walking around Tacoma on my lunch break several years ago, and a “homeless” guy hit me up for some money. He pitched his request with the old tune, “I’m a veteran!” and showed my his military ID card.
I whipped out my wallet and showed him my military retired ID card and said, “So am I!” I put my wallet back in my pocket and walked away without making a contribution to help fund his next purchase.

I heard that the latest poll on public approval of Congress shows an increase…apparently, Congress’ approval rating has passed Bush’s – this is quite unusual if true.
