Still, it is very good news. I’m not sure why the limitations on heterosexual couples that might choose domestic partnership, but it’s a minor quibble about something that is a big step in the right direction.

The ISP owns (and manages) the core OS/Apps software (like MySQL, Apache, PHP, etc.) and Goldy drops scripts into a web directory to make the blog go.
Not knowing how his ISP sets things up, I can’t say if he could even get access to the system to install a database. Usually you can’t. If users can set up software which opens network ports, you will quickly have a nightmare on your hands as several different users open up different apps which are trying to open the same ports. This is assuming you have competent, ethical, well-intentioned users. If any of those 3 are not true, a bad situation becomes truly horrifying.
If it could be solved with a download, it would be.

Even though I am not a big fan of the tax-exempt status of churches (sorry John, it’s not personal), I have to lay a little reality on you.
Somewhere around 40% of the country attends some form of church on a regular basis. I don’t have good numbers, but I suspect if you throw in Easter and Christmas churchgoers, you’re probably getting towards 60%.
No politician, of any persuasion, is going to pass a bill that will cause 40% of their constituents to see red. Remember the proposed “latte tax” in Seattle a few years ago? Visualize numbers like that.

Of course, you’ll also be removing tax exempt status of all other non-profit organizations (their tax status derives from the same rules as ours).
It’s also rather surprising just how many outfits that people don’t consider “churches” are, in fact, church-based.
There is, of course, the Red Cross, Salvation Army, St. Vincent dePaul, all of the non-profit hospitals, many colleges and universities… I think you get the picture.
