Looks like the Republican comeback strategy failed miserably in this state by placing every priority on Dino Rossi.
Sure, Barack Obama gave Gregoire a bit of a lift.
But Rossi ran an extremely cynical campaign. People were offended when Rossi tried to pain himself with the same colors and themes of Barack Obama.
Rossi was running as a “compassionate conservative” while trying to run away from the guy who gave him his initial lift: George W. Bush.
George Bush gave rise to Rossi. And ultimately George Bush helped defeat Rossi.
After the reckless fiscal policies of George W. Bush and the Republican controlled Congress, who in their right mind would believe a candidate like Rossi could have any credibility?
Rossi’s campaign never added up. It was a tap dance from the get-go. And it is still not clear that Rossi knows that.
Ironic that Gary Locke comes out right AFTER the election with news he feels the next Budget Shortfall (Deficit) is more like $4.5 BILLION…not the $3.2 BILLION which morphed from $2.7 BILLION which morphed from………
Once again, the fundamental question is WHAT will Gregoire do??
1) Shell-games
2) Underfund the already underfunded State Retirement Fund…passing the buck to our children.
3) Renege on her NO TAX INCREASE in difficult economic times campaign promise.
4) Lay-off 8,000-10,000 State Workers.
My guess is she has already “shell-gamed” what she could by saying she had miraculously cut $1.7 BILLION with clearly explaining how.
She will do some token layoffs.
Then she will raise taxes….and try to convince us a State Income Tax is good.
What do you think she will do??
And please, let’s get beyond the goat fornication and try to have a meaningful discussion here….for a change.

Allowed environmental mayhem and building everywhere – to satisfy his benefactors at the BIAW? Leading to more flooding and more damage.
No – Gregoire has invested in a rainy day fund, Boeing is back at work and the economy will pick up in a uyear or so – so those projections will mean a tight budget for the next year or maybe two. Gregoire has already frozen jobs and cut discretionary spending. If there are further cuts needed, then they will be measured and studied not absurdly harmful and irrational – like Rossi would do.

It is time for the adults to fix all the juvenile problems left to us by Bush and the neocons. Unfinished and unnecessary wars, ruined economy, huge deficits, croonies and incompetence in government.
But we WILL fix things. Because we are REAL americans who care about this country. Why would anyone vote for people who hate government and want to destroy it to RUN the governement?
Government can’t do everything – but it can help lead the way or it can be a partisan tool. After 8 years of government as a partisan tool – now is the time to start having government lead and work FOR the people not for the corpoarations and the rich lobbyists.

As a Democrat, now that the election is over, I extend my hand in friendship. I wish to retract all my statements bashing Rossi.
Upon reflection I think we need Dino Rossi to continue to lead his party to the success he’s brought it to over the last 2 elections. He has done the best job a Democrat could hope for.
I think the Republicans (or whatever that “party” he leads calls itself, like the “Grand Old Party Party” or the “Tin Foil Hat Party” or the “Build A Highway In Your Backyard Party” or the “BIAW Wholly Owned Subsidiary Party”) should plan on nominating him again in 2012.
I feel the same way about Sarah Palin, please don’t listen to all those naysayers who objected to your links to secessionists, and she should keep that $150,000 or $200,000 worth of clothes she bought. She is now the leader of the Republicans and must do all she can to be the nominee in 2012.

@13 Gregoire will make fewer cuts than most governors because Washington is in better fiscal shape in the teeth of the Bush Economic Collapse than most states due to her excellent management. She paid off Rossi’s $2.2 billion deficit and created a surplus without raising general taxes.
@17 Now I heard Palin charged those clothes’ to her aides’ credit cards and the GOP reimbursed the aides when they complained about it. Doesn’t that constitute felony credit card fraud in most states?
