    Or maybe not the IRS, if his claim falls under a liability exemption, or he doesn’t go through all the procedural steps, or misses the filing deadline; and even if he satisfies all the FTCA requirements and could prove damages, the FTCA imposes limitations on damages.

    I guess you could ask what damages Doctor Dumbfuck would suffer from unauthorized disclosure of his tax returns by a rogue contractor. Sure, the guy could be prosecuted and go to prison, as the leaker in Trump’s case was, but as far as awarding money damages to the doctor, what monetary harm has he suffered?

    Loss of income? What income? The doctor’s chief source of income, his wife’s social security check, would be unimpaired by revelation that he qualified for food stamps and Medicaid before work requirements were imposed. Quantifiable damage to reputation? How do you suffer reputational damage when you already have a reputation that couldn’t be any worse?

    So yeah, a tort was committed when Trump’s tax returns were leaked in 2019, but Trump had only two years to file a claim with the IRS and his lawsuit filed in January 2026 missed that deadline by years. So, while it wasn’t necessarily a meritless lawsuit, it was untimely, and there was no basis or reason for the government to negotiate a settlement with him.

    As for negotiating a settlement after a lawsuit has been withdrawn, that’s a whole ‘nother chapter.

    Without knowing what was in his contract, it’s obviously the case that it has terms for early termination. CBS will attempt to negotiate those terms after the fact, of course, as most employers often do. And the reports are that they are trying to claim they had cause due to the way Pelley interrogated his new boss in his first all-hands. But “hostile work place” is more than asking tough questions and refusing to accept lies for answers. And it does not help the CBS lawyers that subsequent public claims by the management team about Mr. Pelley’s termination include material false statements intended to disparage his professional reputation. That would appear to establish bad faith before they have even begun to negotiate.

    I’m sure Pelley and his lawyers are smart enough to see where this goes, and realize that CBS is better off paying him a massive sum of money now rather than later after a lengthy public legal fight.

    So it doesn’t appear that CBS is interested in doing any of the smart things just yet. It looks more like they are letting an inexperienced bad leader make as many dumb decisions as are needed in order to make sure that she bears all the future blame for the collapse of the brand.

Been following GHT and Clallam Transit because I occasionally use them. For Clallam, it’s a year to year decision, and the Hurricane Ridge and Strait Shot are exempt, the latter most of the route is outside their taxing district, before going fareless, 123 already had a higher fare, $10 vs up to $3 for CTS routes within Clallam County.

    Before 2000, we had at least four fareless systems, Island was the only one not to start charging. Skagit tried charging without actually using traditional fareboxes. Wasn’t the ORCA system, or the UMO smart card system they use jointly now with Whatcom Transit Authority, but used a system called Coin Card, and it was pre loaded and disposable. Had the advantage no cash on bus, but it was sold at vendors, like traditional transit passes and Sound Transit’s Pioneering PugetPass that was a stopgap until ORCA.

  68. Monday, on my day off, took a little trip, see how far on one transfer from the 2 Line terminal I could go. Rt224 Duvall was the answer. Technically a King County Metro service but it’s a route-deviated DART route subcontracted to Hopelink. Pretty good, but as long s they are painted in Metro colors, should have a standard farebox set up. The bus used an old Dropbox for cash fares, and a phone app for an ORCA reader. Would prefer it be a regular route again, but not necessarily revive the 311, waste of resources with a regional network. Community Transit is abandoning their last Seattle commuter bus, the 424, replaced by a bus to the Bellevue Transit Center.

Since Sound Transit tries to schedule heavy maintenance in the early morning hours when revenue service has ceased, or late evening and weekends, public rarely gets to see the Maintenance of Way equipment in action. Well, always a first time for a secondary use of such equipment, like stupid driver from Utah thinking nice ramp with no other cars. The ramp is where LINK 1 Line goes from MLK(or as a few remember, including me vaguely, Empire) up to the Beacon Hill tunnel with a stop at Mt Baker Station. Somewhere on the ramp, the pavement ends and the tracks ride on concrete plinthes, with a gauntlet rail for extra protection against derailments.

    Metro(they operate and maintain LINK for Sound Transit)crews just pulled out the side loader, and lifted the car. Took two hours, but not bad for the first time. Great place to stage this in case of repeats would be Metro’s Sattelite facility of their South Base, just off MLK, as two weak points where this could happen are on this segment.
