Platner took 75% of the vote at the time his race was called.

McMorrow is polling at 6%. It’s a stretch to claim even local effects from her presence in her race.

How, exactly? I’d say 69% difference between the two examples you chose is how.

Last I looked Talarico is a devout Christian.

In a 2023 guest sermon, Talarico called Christian nationalism “the worship of power—social power, economic power, political power, in the name of Christ”. He has said Christian nationalists have turned Jesus “into a gun-toting, gay-bashing, science-denying, money-loving, fear-mongering fascist”, arguing that it is “incumbent on all Christians to confront it and denounce it”.[84] In July 2025, Talarico appeared on The Joe Rogan Experience and discussed the influence of faith on his political career, during which Rogan suggested he run for president in 2028.

How many of the 11000 were fired and let go federal employees?

So, you argiue that federal employees in their 20s, 30s, 40s, seeing their jobs go away, exit the work force completely rather than finding a job in a state or local muncipality or in the private sector.

The net daily loss of 3,000 workers in the US is due to birth rate declines that commenced a couple of decades ago. It’s not because of a one-off last September.

That having been said, I agree with the general concept that once a federal employee loses its job, it’s too lazy to try to replace the job with another.

    49,
Just a further reminder that the mission as described is something the United States Navy is not capable of sustaining independently for more than a month, if at all.

If followed through to its logical conclusions the United States would be forced to invade and occupy the territories lining the strait to a distance sufficient to exclude drone attacks in order to control it in the way the insane, grumpy failure is threatening. If Russia can’t exclude drones from downtown Moscow after years of preparations it’s very unlikely the United States can exclude drones from an 8,000 square mile area of sea lanes surrounded by mountainous wilderness in the control of a hostile nation.

    It’s a laughably dumb threat.

And not for nothing, merely issuing that threat as he most certainly did is a very clear violation of the treaty he just signed.

    Not everywhere in PA. Erie County it’s < $4. Harrisburg County it's < $4.

In the Allentown-Bethlehem-Easton metro area gasoline price is down to $3.79.

WOW: CNN’s statistician Harry Enten BREAKS DOWN the “stunning” rise of socialism in the Democratic Party. “Capitalism has absolutely fallen through the floor. Look at this: it’s now just 42% of Democrats who have a favorable view of capitalism. Socialism, on the other hand, has risen like a rocket…”

“You mention New York, you mentioned Vermont, obviously, there’s the D.C. mayor. We’ve seen it in Pennsylvania as well. The Democratic Socialists seem to be doing considerably better than they used to be, and they have the chance to knock off, in fact, Democratic incumbents in Congress.”

“And part of the reason for that, why we’re seeing these Democratic Socialists having such good chances, or downright outright winning nominations, is — take a look here. Net favorability among Dems, Democratic Socialists of America — look at that, a plus-17-point net favorability rating among Democrats.”

Say, why are there no minimum wage increase measures on state ballots anywhere in the US this Fall?

Throughout the past decade, increasing the minimum wage has remained a consistently popular progressive policy, one that, historically, has prevailed at the ballot box. From 1996 through 2022, 25 state ballot initiatives increasing the minimum wage were voted on across the country. Every single one of them passed. In recent years, even states that have skewed more conservative in their political leanings, such as Missouri, Nebraska, and Florida, have voted overwhelmingly to increase their minimum wage to $15 an hour.

This trend, however, has waned in recent years. In 2024, voters in California and Massachusetts, two of the most leftward-leaning states in the nation, spurned ballot measures that would have resulted in minimum wage increases. These rejections were, in large part, attributed to the same fears surrounding high inflation and increased cost of living that SQ 832 opponents capitalized on.

Because those political battles have been won. Until Oklahoma, those measures were batting 25-for-25. And you don’t see people moving to Oklahoma, do you? Even tourists don’t go there.

By the way, to make sure it lost, the Republicans who control Oklahoma put the minimum wage measure on the primary ballot, not the general election ballot, to ensure low turnout and a more partisan electorate. Even then it was fairly close, with “no” getting only 55% of the thus-manipulated vote.

Instead of working for $2.13 plus tips, waitresses should become entrepreneurs and offer their hospitality consulting services at $75 an hour, which is at the low end of self-employed service providers these days. I pay my personal trainer in my private gym $175 an hour. Absolutely no one should work for wages anymore. Everyone should be a self-employed service provider. That is wholly consistent with our status as a capitalist economy. Entrepreneurship is the American way. It’s as apple pie as you can get. Anyone still working for wages is grossly underpaid. Think of how wealthy America would be if everyone was making over $100 an hour!

The attack further demonstrates the degraded state of Russian air defense. Likely to have been launched from Sukhoi Su-24 fighter bombers operating inside Russian air space. Having surrendered air superiority and exclusion over the last six months, this opens up multiple and numerous new opportunities for Ukraine to accelerate attrition of key Russian capabilities and systems in preparation for a terminal offensive perhaps as early as next year.

Yes. It’s obvious and we’ve been over this before.

Your recent disillusionment with the MAGA GOP has nothing at all to do with Democrats. The same things that have made Democratic governments and elected leaders objectively very successful in the past remain true today. That Republicans have totally destroyed themselves ideologically in order to cling to power and influence, while very successfully triggering and exploiting your biases and cultural grievances, has nothing to do with Democrats, except to the extent that it is a manifestation of increasing partisan polarization. But it happened independent of Democrats. And it would have happened with or without Democrats. Once the last shreds of “conservative” ideology had been exposed as empty words that self destruction was inevitable.

In other words, this is a “you” problem you are experiencing right now. For too many years you bought into a collection of “conservative” lies and pablum in order so that you could reject truths that made you feel deeply uncomfortable with yourself. Now those lies are exposed and you are left without support. So sack up and stop trying to drag us into your petty psychodrama. Do any of you think there is really any difference between the Democrats and Republicans?

I tell you what. Maybe if you really believe this then maybe try to respond specifically and staying on point to any of the hundreds of examples you’ve been offered.

As a prompt, here is another:
As I mention above, the Republican Secretary of Defense has requested an $80 billion dollar budget supplement be approved by the Republican President of the United States to help pay for replacing all the weapons and weapons systems used up in the last three months in an unprovoked attack on Iran for which the United States will now be paying $300 billion in restitution in the treaty negotiated and signed by Republicans.

In order to find a way to pay for all this without having to go through the mandatory budget reconciliation process required under the law, Republicans in control of the Congress are proposing huge cuts to Medicare and Social Security. Democrats oppose those cuts, just as they oppose the $80 billion defense supplemental, the $300 billion reconstruction fund for Iran, and the unprovoked war that Republicans waged against Iran for the past three months.

That’s a big difference that cuts across partisan ideology and touches on every aspect of federal policy, from defense, taxation, the deficit, healthcare, poverty, community support, domestic entitlement spending, foreign diplomacy, and international trade. Plenty for you to work with. Take your time. But at least don’t respond with another dumb bumper sticker statement or claim.

How are the positions of the two parties no different in this one of many particular case examples we can offer you? Can you respond to that question substantively? If you can’t then I’d respectfully suggest that your answer lies within that fact. Your adopted belief that the two parties are “the same” is something you need in order to resolve the feelings of conflict and regret that your lifelong support for “conservatives” and “conservative” ideology have left you with. Those “conservative” ideologies are untrue. And those “conservatives” were lying to you. Nobody wants to be a sucker. And nobody wants to admit that they are a sucker.

But you can always choose to stop being a sucker.

    105,
    You prove my point.

Your comment is a screed of bumper sticker claims offering no support and avoiding entirely any attempt to address the question.

The parties are very, very different. That is of course demonstrated by the degree of partisan polarization in voting and elections. But it’s also demonstrated by these kinds of responses to the question of partisanship and party ideology. Vulgar name calling. It’s now a trademark of the GOP. Consider the contest for the Texas Senate seat to be vacated by John Cornyn.

The entire Republican communications strategy and campaign consists of calling the Democratic candidate “Faggy, fag, fag, faggoty, queer, fag”.
The Democratic candidate is offering voters a political alternative based on specific policies and governing principles. And the Republican candidate is calling him a “fag”.

It’s almost too silly to believe. But it’s true. And it’s another substantial difference.

Except that point is all these former MAGA chuds are now completely disillusioned with their former whites-only “safe space” in the GOP.

So of course they need to switch gears into some kind of weird, neck-bearded anarcho-capitalist fascism. Which might work out for the billionaires who can hire their own private doctors, armies, and build colonies on the moon once they’ve incinerated planet earth.

But these trolls of ours are certainly not billionaires. And they’ll all be camping in a swamp under a blue tarp after sea rise collapses their Florida condo buildings, sleeping with assault rifles, and attempting to cure their type 2 diabetes with garlic and tallow.

Would any of you care to offer some explanation about what specifically made Kshama Sawant “(q)uite possibly one of the worst, most crooked politicians to ever serve the City of Seattle”?

I see where she faced a number of obviously politically motivated defamation lawsuits from political opponents (all of which failed), and calls for criminal investigations from same (also failed), as well as a sustained but rather minor public ethics violation for using her office resources in support of a ballot initiative. But it certainly isn’t as if she accepted a $400 million 747 in exchange for deregulating crypto currency.

Is this just another “opinion” informed by nothing?

    Thanks, y’all.

Not that the reflecting pool lining has any value to the government. They’ll probably have to rip the whole thing out and start over.

As for the algae problem, you deal with it the same way you do with a backyard koi pond: You install pumps, pipes, filters, and aerators. If you can’t afford the electricity bills, you have no business having a pond.

    120,

It’s actually going to be a bigger problem than that, and they knew it all along. They just refused to listen to water quality experts because… “MAGA!! FUCK YOU!!!”

They refilled the pool with municipal water. DC treats their muni water with safe concentrations of soluble organophosphates to sequester lead present from very old plumbing and distribution systems. That isn’t a problem in pipes because no photosynthesis in the dark. Blue-green “algae” are photosynthetic bacteria that can fix atmospheric nitrogen. So their primary limiting nutrient will be phosphate. They filled the pool with that nutrient. Killing the bacteria simply releases the nutrient back into the water. So the clearing effect from the peroxide is merely temporary. To clear the water they must remove the nutrient either chemically or mechanically. In other circumstances like backyard ponds or water features experts recommend planting and maintaining aquatic plants which readily tie up all the available nutrients.

Source: I have a pond. Ponds are just not that complicated. And this nutrient problem isn’t that remarkable nor that intractable. What is remarkable is the stunning degree of Duning Kruger arrogance displayed by these Republicans. They can’t manage a pond. They certainly can’t be trusted to manage a government.
