Been seeing a lot of speculation on social media saying that the election might be postponed. We held an election in a Civil War and two World Wars, plus Korea and Vietnam. Good thing our system doesn’t let a President call an election when he thinks it’s advantageous. Tomorrow BC votes for a new Legislative Assembly two years early, because an unpopular NDP Premier thought he could take advantage of the BC Conservatives own issues, and it appears based on polls, he miscalculated, badly. He’s been trying to get NDP voters who went Green to come home, but the Greens just took Vancouver City Hall. Another lesson, don’t call a snap election during municipal election season.
In Canada, the Liberals and Conservatives are Federal parties, the former has a few provincial affiliates, but the latter has none. The NDP has provincial affiliates more or less part of the national, the Greens in BC go one further, municipal parties in the big cities, and last week got the Vancouver Mayor and a few more council seats. Will it translate to a few MLAs for them from Vancouver, doubt it. None of the other parties have municipal slates/parties.
Good to see Amtrak get the new maintenance facility for the new Amtrak Cascades trains up and running. From what I have seen, it makes the former TALGO facility look like a. Corrugated shack. Hard to believe it was completed ahead of schedule and supposedly under-budget.

Also, seeing reports CA has picked rolling stock for HSR, Siemens American Pioneer 220, the US version of Siemens Velaro global HST platform. If CAHSR hadn’t waste money on consultants, hadn’t had to fight NIMBYs, and exempted from CEQA, the name of the rolling stock might have been the biggest controversy, as in Germany it’s the ICE, but Siemens can’t market it with that name outside of Germany, as for rail, ICE or InterCitty Express, is a Deutsche Bahn trademark.
