It seems really bad to single out one law firm in an executive order. Being a Seattle person I have known plenty of Perkins Coie folks. They certainly don’t deserve this. This feels like a bill of attainder for the crime of investigating the President.
And also, many of the things they investigated about President Trump turned out to be true. Like, they wouldn’t deserve this if they were batting .000, but they have found many terrible things President Trump did with Russia.
In 2016 Perkins Coie laundered the money paid by the #CrookedHillary campaign for the Steele dossier.
Perkins Coie picked sides against Donald Trump. The DJT47 presidency is eliminating federal government profit centers for Perkins Coie. That’s simply business.
Of course Perkins Coie deserves it.
Thanks to Elon not having enough engineers we went from about 1.1 new registrations a second this morning to 2.3.
We’ll hit 33M users sometime today. The fastest 1M increase in the last two months.
Thank you all. We’re doing it all with 50 employees but now we’re hiring.

I’ll take $10,000 on Huge law firm of talented attorneys over Alina Habba and give the points.
Elon Musk Suddenly Doesn’t Want Credit for Disastrous DOGE Cuts – Musk is warning Republicans to stop blaming DOGE for the cuts.
Elon Musk is claiming that the Department of Government Efficiency isn’t actually behind the sweeping cuts to the federal workforce, instead placing the blame on the agency heads who order the firings.
Republicans pretending some one else did this.
During the last year of the Biden presidency credit card debt rose 8.2%.
That’s a year-over-year increase, so it can’t be blamed on Donald Trump.
Attempting to bar licensed and admitted attorneys from representing their clients before federal judges is against the law.
It’s also an obvious tort.
However, as with “mass deportation” and “no tax on tips”
it isn’t even happening.*
The Nazi Dumbfuck has just announced to all of us how truly gullible he has become since he signed up to swallow gallons of orange throat yogurt for MAGA.

You have a point.
Total Consumer debt on Jan 19, 2025 was 1.09T$. At the last measured date of 2/25 (St. Louis Fed) that’s up .4% in roughly a month. New number will be out Friday.
Republicans did say they would collapse the economy.
MISO electricity customers in 12 US states that vote MAGA are now receiving 25% rate hikes for their energy imported from Alberta.
Whether or not they were torched or caught fire due to some electrical issue is unclear but four Cybertrucks were destroyed in Tesla’s holding facility in Seattle last night.
Having a very pricey uninsurable vehicle in your fleet is not profitable.
TSLA down another 12% so far today. Since Elon started doing the DOGE, down 32%.
You know what else went down today?
What went up but didn’t come down last week causing a ground stop for airlines.

If you had sold covered calls 1-2 months ago you wouldn’t be unhappy about this.
Wow this is great news for the kids…
“How do we solve for something like this?” Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins asked on Fox News. “People are sort of looking around and thinking, ‘Wow, maybe I could get a chicken in my backyard,’ and it’s awesome.”..
Encouraging millions of Americans who are completely inexperienced with animal husbandry to become amateur bird farmers in the middle of a bird flu epidemic also seems like a great way to expose more humans to bird flu.

@1 “Perkins Coie picked sides against Donald Trump. The DJT47 presidency is eliminating federal government profit centers for Perkins Coie. That’s simply business.”
You’re always a fucking idiot, but you’ve outdone yourself this time.
“Perkins Coie picked sides against Donald Trump.”
Yeah, they’re the Democratic Party’s lawyers, since long before Trump.
“The DJT47 presidency is eliminating federal government profit centers for Perkins Coie.”
This would be true only if they represented government agencies, which they don’t (the Department of Justice does), or had federal contracts, which they don’t. Trump is trying to destroy Perkins Coie’s business by making it impossible for their lawyers to represent their clients in federal matters.
“That’s simply business.”
No, it’s unconstitutional attainder, ultra vires, tortious interference in Perkins Coie’s business, and interfering in the attorney-client relationship, and violates the clients’ First, Fifth, and Sixth Amendment rights.
Ask an armchair lawyer like Doctor Dumbfuck for an opinion, and you’ll get what you paid for. Worse than pro se.

@3 I wouldn’t make that bet, because laws may not apply anymore. If Trump is allowed to brush aside constitutional rights and ignore court orders, then he can indeed ban the Democratic Party’s lawyers from federal buildings and courthouses, revoke their visas and citizenship, and have them arrested and deported or imprisoned, tortured, and executed, etc. At this point I’m not sure anyone’s going to stop him, least of all Chief Justice Roberts.
Of course, if Perkins Coie and their employees don’t have any enforceable rights, then neither does anyone else, and Doctor Dumbfuck can be arrested, etc., for being a dumbfuck, too.
@4 It’s too late. Tesla is toast. Nobody except federal agencies will buy them now, and those who have them will put stickers on them saying, “I’m not an ICE agent, I bought this before Elon became a Nazi.”
I have a feeling TSLA stock isn’t done dropping even after today’s $40/15% decline. Elon is seeing his wealth evaporate before his eyes and there’s nothing he can do about it. He shouldn’t have meddled with Social Security; literally everyone in this country has family members who depend on it.

Down under $220 in after hours trading.
At what point do the financiers holding Tesla promissory notes to buy Twatter want to just take it as collateral?
Which Russian bank has promised to keep Elon from losing all his toys?
@63 Billionaire founders usually don’t sell their stock, because they’d lose control of their companies and owe taxes on the gains. Typically they borrow against it, using the stock as collateral, to finance their other business ventures and lifestyles. So, as you legitimately ask, what if the market value of Elon’s TSLA shares falls below the outstanding loans and his bankers call in his loans? Then he’s in Chapter 11, the banks take control of Tesla and SpaceX, and his kids shop for clothes at Goodwill. (They probably already do anyway, except when he uses them in photo-ops.)
I don’t know how leveraged he is. Probably a lot. Leverage can make someone very rich, but also snatch away that wealth. Easy come, easy go. Conceivably, Musk’s net worth could drop from $400 billion to zero in a very short time. Oh well, he doesn’t need seven private jets anyway, even a billionaire can only use one at a time.
Is Musk going completely bust unlikely? Probably. Is it conceivable? Maybe. This much is clear: He’s nowhere near as rich as he was before he started fucking around with other people’s lives.
FAFO! 🍿🤡💩😂🤣👏

@5 “During the last year of the Biden presidency credit card debt rose 8.2%. That’s a year-over-year increase, so it can’t be blamed on Donald Trump.”
It can’t be blamed on Biden, either. Living beyond one’s means and racking up credit card debt is an individual choice.
@10 He doesn’t have a point. Credit card debt rises when consumers are spending, and falls during recessions. Recently consumers have been spending. This has been going on since long before Biden or Trump occupied the White House.

@15 Comments are limited to 3 links. More than 3 links won’t post.
@18 Did you?
Anyone can look like a stock market genius by citing past market moves and stock prices. All that requires is a computer, internet connection, and a simple search that takes a couple minutes.
Some very obvious things are predictable. For example, after Elon bought an election and then began dismantling federal programs that tens of millions of Americans rely on, tanking Tesla sales and falling Tesla stock was predictable. The mystery is why people still holding TSLA shares didn’t get out sooner.
@19 Apart from those considerations, producing eggs from backyard chickens might cost about $2.81/dozen if you donate your time and labor, don’t mind cleaning up chicken shit, run a very cost-efficient operation, and scale up to a flock of 50 chickens, which isn’t allowed in urban and suburban areas. Seattle allows only 3 backyard chickens, and with fixed overhead costs spread over only 3 chickens, the cost of producing a dozen eggs will be much higher.
https://fromscratchfarmstead.com/cost-of-chickens/

@24 There was no recession under 4 years of Biden. It’s taking Trump less than one quarter to push the economy into a perfectly avoidable recession.
@26 “If the voters had elected all Democrats the stock market wouldn’t be down at all.”
Hard to say, but what we know for sure is that consumer spending has been propping up an overvalued stock market, and now consumer sentiment surveys are plunging, retailers are reporting softening sales, and it looks like consumer spending has peaked. Meanwhile, the Atlanta Fed is predicting negative GDP growth for this quarter. All this is probably due to multiple factors, but tariffs and mass layoffs of government employees sure as hell won’t help.
@27 “The troll should be banned from this site for nothing other than being a fucking dumbfuck clown traitor that hates democracy, and freedom. He should be deported to Russia with the horse.”
No! I’m fine with deporting him to Russia if he can have internet access there, but I absolutely do not want him to disappear from HA. Without a fucking dumbfuck clown traitor who hates democracy and freedom posting here, who are we going to kick around? Without him, this place would be no fun at all.
@31 “That’s a gain of < 2%."
I suppose for an "investor" like you a 2% gain is something to celebrate.
@32 “That’s a 3.8% increase in credit card debt in just 3 months. You’re fuckin’ right I’ve got a point.”
Yes, you do. Your point is that consumers are splurging ahead of tariffs. And my point is that consumer spending, and new credit card debt, will fall off a cliff once the tariffs go into effect.
There was a big drop in credit card debt during the pandemic recession. The Trump recession might be different, though, because this time consumers will actually lose income.

@81 The Palestinians are a displaced people routinely and unconscionably oppressed by the conquerors. Israel land grabs and mistreatment of Palestinians are a legitimate subject of debate, policy, and protest.
Unfortunately, lacking an army to fight off their oppressors, Palestinians have resorted to terrorism as the only means of resistance within their capacities. They have a long history of brutal terrorist acts. This has turned the world against them.
Intelligent people of conscience make the distinction between peaceful and violent protest, and between self-defense and terrorism. Stupid people, and people with no conscience, see them as one and the same.
So, ripping down posters should get a university employee fired. Violent or criminal acts of protest should get a green card holder deported. Peaceful dissent and exercise of free speech and the right of assembly should not.

Wait, what?

You really a low piece is shit of a parent, YLB
While I can’t predict future market values, estimating the fair value of TSLA stock is easy enough. Automakers, with their large capital requirements, particularly those with declining sales, typically sport P/E ratios of 6 to 8. Based on that, and Tesla’s current sales, FMV of Tesla stock is around $12.50 to $16.50, or about 5% to 7% of today’s closing price, with no discount for forward-looking sales declines.
It’s worth noting that Value Line’s last TSLA update, which came out a little more than a month ago, projected a future stock price range of $370 to $560. But TSLA has already blown through Value Line’s floor by more than $150 and is still going down. That makes Musk’s stake worth about $145 billion, and even at a P/E ratio of 10.9 it would be worth about $14.5 billion, making him an ordinary billionaire. He might want to start reducing his personal debt so he doesn’t go underwater.

Last year I bought Amgen on 3/26/24 for $283.38 and sold it on 5/3/24 for $311.45, a 95.2% annualized total return.
Then I bought Amgen again on 12/20/24 for $266.32, and as of today it’s worth $327.36, an 85% annualized return.
And that isn’t even my best stock. The Starbucks shares I bought in 1996 sport an average annual return of 397%. On 5/3/24, I used the Amgen proceeds to buy more Starbucks, and less than a year later those shares sport an annualized annual return of 66%. The AbbVie shares I’ve owned since they were spun off from Abbott Laboratories in 2013 have returned 73% annually, the ESLT shares I bought in 2012 have returned 68% annually, my most recent purchase of Bank of New York Mellon is returning 84% annually, and even some of my AT&T shares have returned double digits and none are underwater.
And that stupid fucker still thinks I’m not a millionaire. (I’ll send you the list by private email.)
@109. And now that is a display of talent. Pure talent!

If this is the kind of border agents we get from a regular hiring process, imagine what kind of people CBP managers will hire when they need to deploy tens of thousands of new agents overnight to keep Trump off their backs.
Well at least the CBP binge hiring spree will create job openings for riffed D.C. cops and National Park rangers.

Running a government is not like running a business. That’s why universities have separate Schools of Business and Schools of Public Administration, with different curricula, and awarding different degrees (MBA and MPA).
Both Musk and Trump attended business schools, and neither of them knows fuck about running a government. In business, if a company sells more widgets it hires more workers and ramps up production; when sales decline, it lays off workers and cuts back production.
Government doesn’t work this way at all. Managers are tasked with providing a service to the public. It might be policing, or managing a park. They’re given a predetermined budget, based on how much a legislative body decides to spend on providing the service, and the manager is then expected to spend all of the money to provide as much service as possible.
Let’s say you’re a police chief. You decide how many squad cars and officers you want. You submit your budget request to the city council, and they pass a budget that doesn’t include the new squad cars you requested, so you keep using the old ones. (Maybe next year?) You also didn’t get all the officers you wanted, so you decide how you’re going to prioritize traffic control, patrolling, and responding to 911 calls with the officers you have.
If you run a park, you request X number of rangers and Y number of janitors, but you’ll probably have to make do with less, because public funding is always tight. So you decide which trails the rangers will patrol and maybe don’t clean the restrooms as often or close certain restrooms. In any case, you spend your entire budget, hiring as many rangers and janitors as you can, and then provide the best level of service possible with the personnel and resources allocated to you.
Let’s say new politicians are elected and decide parks to cut the parks budget to increase the police budget. Word comes down from the parks department to cut your park’s staffing by 30%. It’s up to you, the park manager, to decide whether to let go rangers, janitors, or both. What doesn’t happen is some outsider with a business degree doesn’t come in and tell you to fire all your probationary employees to achieve the 30% staff reduction. Maybe one of your janitors just transferred to another park and the other one retired, so both your janitors are probationary hires; and now, thanks to the MBA who doesn’t know fuck about running a park and maybe even never visited one and has no idea what park personnel do, you have no janitors. What are you supposed to do, close all the restrooms and let visitors shit in the bushes? This is not how you manage a park. You give the park manager 70% of his budget and let him figure out how to provide a reduced level of service.
That’s not how anyone runs a widget factory, either. Nobody, including Elon Musk, runs a factory this way. The CEO tells his managers to reduce headcount, and the shop supervisors decide who to let go. If they keep the guy who cleans the restrooms and sweeps the floors and let go one of the machinists, you don’t interfere because they understand their personnel needs to keep the shop functioning better than you do. Even Elon Musk understands that, or his factories wouldn’t be producing any cars.

@144 got it. Impressive
He’s crashing the economy on purpose.
US stock market loses $4 trillion in value with Trump in office.
Republicans did that
@126 Sure looks that way, doesn’t it? I wonder if Russia put him up to it? “Wreck America, or we’ll call in our loans!”
@125 You know my stock portfolio is real, but no one has actually seen the dumbfuck’s alleged 5-acre spread in Freeland, Washington; or his alleged F-250 and horse trailer; or his alleged barn and horse; so I wonder if he’s really a homeless person living in a cardboard refrigerator box? How are we supposed to know for sure?
116,
Betar are aggressively pro Zionist, openly militant, and pro Israel with backing from the State of Israel. The false equivalency they engage in is labeling all dissent against the State of Israel, West Bank expansion, Gaza genocide, and Israeli Zionist militancy and violent oppression of displaced Palestinians with “terrorism” and “Hamas”.
Opposition to militant Zionism is a legitimate political movement. Opposition to the State of Israel when it engages in and aggressively exports militant Zionism is also legitimate. Betar militants working with Republicans intend to criminalize it in the United States. And the State of Israel is behind it.

@83 Uh, no, it’s not a decision on the merits, and doesn’t say that. It only says “we grant Appellants’ motion for a stay pending appeal.” In other words, it maintains the status quo while the case is being argued. Courts do that all the time.

See Canada offered a dealership incentive but there was a maximum number of rebates per sale for the entire country. At least 8 dealerships are targeted for allegedly selling 10 to 30 times their normal monthly numbers in the final days of eligibility. At least two so far reported claimed to have sold more than factory deliveries by quite a bit.
4000 units in a single weekend from a single dealer in Quebec.

It’s fine. We have plenty of aluminum right here at home.
All we need to do is start mining it in the next couple days.

“The vaccination has stuff we don’t trust,”
And one of the reasons why the family did not trust the “stuff” is because of bullshit posts by lying nihilistic sociopathic Nazi fucks like the Nazi Dumbfuck. Who, though he claims to be a “healthcare professional” concerned about “protecting life”, nevertheless fabricates obvious lies about vaccine safety in a vain effort to win imaginary clout in online debates. Very few actual medical professionals would ever do that. Fewer still would any practing MDs unless they stood to be paid a ton of money for doing so.

@132 I noticed you didn’t endorse leaving those infected chickens alive, thereby enabling the avian flu virus to jump to humans on a mass scale. (All known human cases so far are bird-to-human transmission, not human-to-human transmission.)
Until I have reason to believe differently, I’ll assume the omission is intentional and suggests that you, as a doctor, recognize the unstated implication of your comment is epidemiologically unsound bullshit. Feel free to correct me if I’m wrong about this.
In what they claim is an effort to protect students from antisemitisim at Columbia University, White House fascists acting on the advice of guys who give Nazi salutes at party rallies are cutting off funds appropriated by Congress to help students learn science.
Litigating this will of course take months if not years. That’s time that young graduate students and post-graduate students pursuing original fundamental research in medicine, genetics, biochem, and public health don’t have. So we lose a year or more worth of scientific advancement.

You really should not presume to lecture real lawyers as to your primitive understandings and fanciful conjectures about legal matters. We have better things to do with our time than read such pablum.
147,
The reason bird to human transmission is very concerning is because each bird-human transmission event is an opportunity for the virus to mutate in a way that allows human to human transmission.
Allowing infected facilities to continue to produce and ship is a scientifically proven way to increase infection. Infected facilities are facilities that are proven to lack effective biosecurity. If an infected facility is allowed to continue to operate it will by definition be incapable of containing the virus. Wild birds and other animals will carry the virus to other nearby cafo facilities and other bio pools including dairy, other poultry, feed lots, etc. These are facilities that up to now have not been required to acheive enhanced biosecurity. It’s doubtful that many of these kinds of facilities are capable of being rendered secure.
So pretty soon we can look forward to cow to human transmissions, cat to human transmissions, turkey to human transmissions, and pig to human transmissions, each new vector increasing the odds that the virus mutates.
If any of this feels vaguely similar to how Republicans and Fat Hitler fucked up in late 2019 and early 2020, that’s because it is. A million Americans dies that time. But given how fascists have succeeded in turning public health into a partisan issue, it’s sure to be a lot worse this time.

@142 No one has ever raised this question before, but is it plausible that Doctor Dumbfuck is an immigrant doctor trained in Russian medical schools? None of his have ever seen him in person, or spoken with him, so we don’t know if he resembles Rasputin and has a thick Russian accent.
All of us blog addicts on the lefty side of the aisle should be familiar with the late Kevin Drum or CalPundit.
OG Blogger.. One of the very best. Friday cat days..
66 years old. Cancer. Blogged to just a few days before he passed.

Notable in the remembrance is a link to Drum’s article about lead poisoning leading to the spike in crime in the 90’s.
Yes, I believe this explains the violent, psychopathic, misogynist behavior here of the toonerville dumbfuck widbee troll.
Speaking of the late Rasputin and Empress, that whole episode sort of illustrates the downsides to maintaining empire and social stability of concentrating all political power in a singular titular monarch.
That particular empire likely would have been better off had it had some checks and balances on the tsarina and her imperial court associations or at least a tsar who had more backbone about protecting his own self-preservation interests.
Instead they ended up with a sociopathic peasant running the country (into the ground, as it happened). Not wholly unlike our own present situation.
@143 “Funny to me that a lot of magats complain about the money Biden spent in Ukraine..”
Except he didn’t spend it in Ukraine, he spent it in the U.S. buying ammunition from American factories employing American workers.
Just like USAID dollars don’t go to African countries, they go to American farmers supplying food sent to African countries. Cutting off that aid cuts off income to our own farmers. So does doing away with food stamps and school lunches.
Except he didn’t spend it in Ukraine, he spent it in the U.S. buying ammunition from American factories employing American workers.
Yes, very good point.. I should have also mentioned that magat heads explode over fear of WWIII.. They’re going completely nutso over this.
We’re witnessing a crash course in creating an economic depression.
@144 And every immigration judge who doesn’t go along with it will be fired and banned for life from federal buildings.
Trump’s last term will end his and Rubio’s political careers as we know them. Rubio better hope this ends in dictatorship, because he no longer has a future in elective politics. Trump is seeing to that.
Stalin executed potential political rivals; Putin has them poisoned or thrown out of windows. Trump merely appoints them to his cabinet, which has the same result.
Can you think of a single politician whose association with Trump boosted his or her political career? I can’t. I can’t fathom why any of them agrees to work under him.
@149 The U.S. Marshals Service is under the Department of Justice, and he should be able to see it’ll more likely be used to arrest judges than protect them from MAGAts.
I’m looking over the list of long form pieces Kevin Drum lists at his blog, jabberwocking.com.
All well written, well researched, thoughtful pieces.
I’m going to take some time off to absorb this.
