As I reported on Saturday, a Public Disclosure Commission investigation confirmed that King County Republicans had committed major reporting violations during 2006 — the KCRCC filed 56 late reports, and failed to provide employer and occupation information for 90-percent of their big donors. In fact, the reporting violations were so numerous and so serious that PDC staff recommended referring the investigation to the state Attorney General’s office “because the remedies the Commission could impose statutorily are insufficient given the number and significance of the apparent violations.”
The Seattle Times David Postman picks up the story this morning on his blog, but I find it more than a bit surprising that our local papers have gone to press three times since the report was issued Friday afternoon, without a single column inch of coverage. Compare that to the amount of ink the Times alone devoted to similar reporting violations committed by the state Democratic Party:
- Dems admit mistakes to PDC
- Disclosure lapses cost state Democrats $150,000
- Panel: Punish Democrats for violations
- Agency slams Democrats for tardy reporting of campaign donations
- PDC says Democrats broke finance laws
And that wasn’t even an exhaustive search.
I’m just sayin’…

Roger you are an Al Goreaaaaaaaaaaaa lover is this true about Mr. Global Warmer? Maybe you should defend Mr. Old Growth why he flies around in a private jet polluting the planet.
Former vice-president and global warming guru Al Gore Jr. received more than $500,000 in royalties from the owners of zinc mines, according to a report on Tennessean.com.
The mine owners held mineral leases on Gore’s farm near Carthage, Tenn.
Before being shut down in 2003, the mines emitted thousands of pounds of toxic substances.
Reportedly, on several occasions, the water discharged from the mines into nearby rivers had levels of toxins above what was legal.
Now the mines have a new owner and are scheduled to reopen later this year.

The righties standard approach to truth is deflection. Just listen to any of the right wing hate radio types. As soon as someone proves the truth, and the truth always seems to bother Publicans, then the righties deflect.
They deflect using one of a few tried and true methods.
1) Change the subject
2) Point out an unrelated, old, allegedly true case where “Dems did it too.”
3) Cry voter fraud
4) Attack patriotism or character of their enemies
This is the standard approach used by all Publicans when faced with an INCONVENIENT TRUTH. In this case, the Publican party got caught cheating. No doubt, there are 1000s more cases where they DIDN’T get caught. But this time, we got em. And the Times has become a Publican organ so they are using deflection technique number one. Change the subject…in this case by ignoring it.

If what you say is true, then all companies should be able to pollute as much or even more than Al Gore!
If Al Gore rides in vehicles and uses other ordinary conveyances, then it logically follows that global warming is a fiction.
And Tennesseean.com did state that they are non-partisan (even though they are a claque of trash collecting WingNutz (tm. So, it must be true!

The Republicans look and sound like crap this year. Every one of them is clinging to the same failed and/or rejected policies that made them famous. Won’t work.

The Dems issues a few years ago were of a like kind except that some fed race money was involved and the period of noncompliance was much shorter. The party and by party I mean central committee, placed another high level of review between when the mail is opened and the reports are sent and assumed to be in order. This oversite has solved the problem and though it comes with an opperating cost, it was the right response.
AS for KC GOP, they have long played fast and furious with the pdc laws and have been quick to launder money for the likes of Skip Rowley when he wanted to provide 90% of the funding for a slate of Issaquah city council races in 07 but not be identified as the funder.

Do you think that explains the thousands of dollars that the King County GOP dumped into each of several technically non-partisan Issaquah City Council races in 2005? (At the same time, the county GOP gave absolutely ZERO to the GOP candidate in heavily-Democrat King County Council District 2.)

Macy’s (formerly the Bon Marche) is by far their biggest advertiser.
I hear you about not taking the Seattle Times. I cancelled my subscription back in 2000 when the Times put its support behind Bush.
If you want to know who their advertiser’s are without paying any money, check their web site, or pick up a used paper in a coffee shop. Preferably a Sunday paper. That’s when they get the most advertisers.

Skip Rowley is one of the states top GOP contributers over the past few years but has most of his financial interests in Issaquah including a large underdeveloped block of land on both sides of State Route 900 along I-90 and he is keenly interested in seeing a new road (the SE Bypass) built over in the SE corner of town as result of how that road will help his traffic concurency numbers. In that election, for every office their was a pro and con candidate and Rowley wrote huge checks to the KC GOP and an equal amount of money was given to those candidates or used for GOP robocalls focused on those races.
Over time the Rowley money in local and legislative races has become a negative and the KC GOP has been a willing partner in a wink wink coincidental flow through of cash to races he is interested in. Rossi in his second senate race got 15K from the KC GOP the same day they reported a 15K check from Rowley, as an example. In these more recent races a few of the candidates got something like 8-10K from Rowley via the KC GOP and raised only another $200 bucks or so and this in a town of less than 15,000 people.

apparantly getting the discharge worked out well for GBS. not that it matters much to me as i have my own. anyway…..back to the subject at hand let’s not forget the republican agenda succeeded six years ago with the help of billions of corrupt dollars, and the famous party discipline that allowed them to pass so many extremist bills was the result of this corruption.
This is the most fiscally-irresponsible administration in American history, and vote-buying is the reason why. Every time a Republican starts to waver, Rove brings out the carrat-stick with the smell of a hundred thousand or more into his/her campaign fund. this vote-buying, shut-your-mouth crap is resulting in the unforgivable deficits. Talk about falling in the forest…I think its more like mount saint hellens erupting from the lava within.

oh yeah…one more thing…..
conservativism as we knew it is a thing of the past. Its been replaced by low taxes and militarism (which hasn’t been very successful). Fiscal responsibility and limited government are utterly gone. The Bill of Rights is nothing more than a historical document, a fading memory.
The past 6 years has proven that conservatives are no longer Republicans, they are now liberals, but I don’t really expect any of them to figure that out.
