    In terms of the politics of it, the difference is between the politicians, and elected leaders of one political party still working hard to expand and strengthen the broad and diverse coalition of Americans they represent without targeting or alienating anyone, and the politicians and elected obstructionists of another political party who no longer believe in democracy and see their only path to power by limiting and reducing public participation and dividing voters against each other.

    Trump issues that threat, and Republicans all get behind it, because they know it stokes their aggrieved base in miserable, underperforming red states filled with jealous anger over the better lives they see people in California living. And they assume that tens of millions of California residents would respond by turning against them forever. And they are just fine with that.

    Democrats definitely hope to win House and even Senate seats in Florida this year, and even some day flip the state in the Electoral College and take over in Tallahassee. Republicans are quitting and walking away in California.
