    Assuming that as trial is underway they are still negotiating, I think it’s very unlikely that Rhodes or his co-conspirators can obtain a plea agreement at this late stage. It would not be unheard of for a plea agreement to be entered after a jury has been seated. But it’s fairly uncommon and for the practical reason that any last minute offers from the defense tend to be regarded by the government as attempts to introduce further delay and complications to due process rights of the accused. That’s particularly likely to be the case here.

    That leaves open the possibility that “the other guy did it” is a defense strategy to be employed at trial to convince a jury of their client’s innocence. But introducing such arguments to the jury would have to include foundation. Perhaps we’ll all be shocked to hear such foundational testimony from the accused or from other defense witnesses. But if such witnesses and such testimony do exist it seems to me more likely that it would already be in the hands of the government, who after all have the power to reduce charges and make recommendations at sentencing. All Rhodes’ defense team can offer is sincere thanks and maybe a guest spot on a podcast.

    Rhodes is insane. But he’s also a smart guy. Smart enough any way to have had better op sec than The Pig Shit Shoveler Tarrio. He may have lots to give. But I think he went into all this with the intention of “ending it all” either literally or metaphorically. So he burned his receipts along the way.     Put him into the jail for very long and he gets beaten to death, probably by the guards. So she sends him to the jail with an order for him to be placed in seg. And she issues another order to the prosecutor to provide her with weekly status reports about his treatment and progress towards a bed placement. One month later, having read a series of status reports detailing the Captain’s various injuries suffered in the jail, and the complete lack of treatment she orders Captain Sterno McStabby released.

    Cops encounter him three days after release and the cycle begins all over again. Lather. Rinse. Repeat. Until finally some cop with nothing to lose greases him.

    This is the cop role in the laundry machine of urban street psychosis. The absolute dumbest part. Adding more cops won’t fix any part of it. It’ll just make it dumber, more cruel, and more gruesome. So of course that’s what modern White Supremacist Republicans demand.

    We can easily afford to build more facilities and staff them with enough behavioral health nurses and doctors to get these people off the street. But Republicans won’t allow it.

    You can stretch that to all the States on the gulf coast, which all happen to be Red by the way.

    They are all the same, fiercely anti-government, that is until their homes get wiped out by some massive (and predictable to some extent) natural disaster. Then “poof”, gone is that sentiment and desire to pick themselves up by their own bootstraps and rebuild on their own. They all stand around waiting for insurance and the government to bail them out and rebuild again. It happens like clockwork.
