    It’s actually possible for Turley to be right about restoring public confidence in the court as an institution by diluting each Justice’s individual ideological influence, while simultaneously being wrong about his demonstrably hypocritical positions on the proper grounds for articles of presidential impeachment.

    Personally I was satisfied with the articles that were voted and approved impeaching your beloved RapeHero. And I’d note at this point that had your Rapepublican Congress followed Turley’s 2019 advice in 1998 Clinton probably would not have been impeached. Thus depriving your TIME MUSHEEN of vital fuel.

    I don’t think Moscow Mitch will do anything until he has a head count. And if waiting improves that. so be it. I’m relatively confident that Collins, Gardiner, Ernst and Tillis would all vote to confirm if they lose.

    But forcing a lame duck vote on Murkowski, Burr, Grassley, Toomey, and (provisionally) Loeffler could imperil those races in 2022 and transform what would otherwise be a difficult year for Senate Democrats.

    So Moscow Mitch has a complex electoral calculation ahead of him that will be accompanied by delicate timing. But one way or another Trump will get a nominee vote before year end, and about the only thing Democrats can do about it is make it costly.

    There are a lot of reasons to believe McConnell won’t have the votes. But Corn doesn’t trust any Republicans, and I’m with him on that. He says threaten retaliation; I think it will come to retaliating, if the Democrats have spine for it, instead of rolling over and playing dead like they’ve always done in the past.

    The retaliation Corn suggests is (1) abolish the filibuster, (2) admit D.C. as a state (gaining 2 Democratic senators), and (3) pack the Supreme Court. If the last vestige of comity is gone, and we are down to bare-knuckle partisan warfare, there’s no reason not to do all of those things. In a rational political climate, the threat alone should make a few GOP senators hesitate, if any rational GOP senators are left; but I think earth hurtled through that event horizon some time ago.

    I think he just announced his intentions to give Trump’s nominee a vote no matter what. But depending on future events that could mean a few different things. I can see no good reason why an accomplished politician like him wouldn’t use the nomination to drive turnout ahead of the election.

    Maybe there’s some kind of double reverse psychology that argues a fast confirmation would drive down Dem enthusiasm and turnout, or drive up GOP enthusiasm and turnout. But given the kind of media circus this is going to unleash I’m pretty sure that’s wrong. And the best strategy for Rapepublicans is to hold the confirmation vote as a “reward” to Thumpers for once again overlooking the violent history of sexual assaults, Guatemalan Toddler Torture, and PoolBoy Fapping.

    Threats must be backed by votes.

    For career politicians to give credence to such threats you must show that you have both the public support and the votes to back them up. That means a few things beyond the rhetoric.

    It means that Democrats have to stop defeating themselves in the House by challenging incumbents in primaries every two years. It means that not just this year, and not just in 2018, but every two years Democrats need to turn out in numbers. And it means that Democrats have to continue to gain control of more state houses ahead of redistricting in order to control the map.

    DNC has vast constituencies including campaigns, races, and candidates who may not always be the highest priority right now. We need to build the party from the ground up first in order to save American democracy from totalitarianism. That means bringing new voters in. DNCs role is simultaneously diminished and diluted by its nationwide, specifically partisan role. The majority of new voters we need to recruit are never going to want to label themselves “Democrats”.

    Register2Vote is just doing one thing: micro targeting lean D eligibles in battlegrounds, getting them registered and getting them to turnout and vote. That specific effort helps every campaign in every year and every race from the top of the ticket on down. It’s why Republicans hate turnout. Even as a general principle Republicans, who at this point are essentially totalitarians, want to suppress all turnout. It’s the one thing they’ve been consistent about since adopting the Southern Strategy.

    This is what needs to happen to wake the country up to the importance of everyone voting and being able to vote. Republicans are not done. Not by a mile.     Like Collins, Murkowski also did not say she would not vote to confirm a Trump nominee if the Senate did take up a nomination despite her objections.

    “I did not support taking up a nomination eight months before the 2016 election to fill the vacancy created by the passing of Justice [Antonin] Scalia,” she continued. “We are now even closer to the 2020 election – less than two months out – and I believe the same standard must apply.”

    They can each be against the Senate’s consideration of a nominee before a new Senate is seated. But if the Senate decides to do it over their objections, neither of them said they’d vote No without knowing who the nominee would be.

    Saturday, saw something weird at the Bainbridge Ferry Terminal, the bus from Port Angeles was therr. Thought that the Strait Shot was still suspended, turns out has been running since June. Part of the reasons I thought it was still suspended was the border closure, sports teams playing to empty stadiums, and the need to social distance. Clallam Transit insists 123 pay it’s way, and the two trips a day need to average 10 riders a trip.
