From an article at The Hill about former GOP administration staffers running for Congress comes this little tidbit from David Castillo, a Republican candidate intending to take on Democratic Rep. Brian Baird, WA-03.

“I’m going to try to cajole [Bush and Cheney] to come out and do an event for me,” said David Castillo, a former deputy assistant secretary in the Department of Veterans Affairs who also worked in the Homeland Security and Labor departments. “As we progress, I’m hoping to utilize my Bush-Cheney relationships to the fullest extent I can.”

That would be bad news, at least in terms of fundraising, for the other announced Republican candidate. But I really don’t know the landscape on the GOP side, maybe Bush and Cheney would help both of them, that would be cool. Lots of photos.

    Support for Republican congressional candidates has risen to its highest level in recent years, giving the GOP a five-point lead over Democrats in the latest Congressional Ballot and stretching the out-of-power party’s lead to six weeks in a row.

    The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey shows that 43% would vote for their district’s Republican congressional candidate while 38% would opt for his or her Democratic opponent.

    As the only son of a single mom with four kids, David grew up when money was tight and church and friends were a vital resource. He learned a special appreciation for the opportunities our country provides.

    The first in his family to go to college, David is currently a Financial Advisor with Edward Jones Investments.

    Before joining Edward Jones, Castillo served at the Department of Homeland Security and was Deputy Assistant Secretary at the Department of Veterans Affairs. David also served at the Department of Labor.

    In Washington State, David has worked in various capacities in the State Legislature, including as Chief of Staff to the House Republican Caucus and as Legislative Assistant.

    David is originally from Centralia, Washington and holds a Bachelors Degree in Political Science from the University of Washington and a Masters Degree in Organizational Leadership from Gonzaga University.

    He is a member of Rotary International, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the American Legion. He is a veteran of the United States Navy.

    Mr. Castillo and his wife Callie live in Olympia with their three-year-old son Caidan and dog Sophie

    My buddy Cynical has gotten real good at them polls ever since he couldn’t get his up anymore (which is why he had to leave the polygamists in the Hamilton Valley, if you you get my drift) and there are rumored to be democrats (well, baucuses) somewhere in this state, so I am sure his data are accurate.

    He got his favorite sheep pretty well signed up as Republicans, too, although most of the sheepherders around here were unaware that Montana sheep had much knowledge or natural aptitude at politics.

    I didn’t know he taught them how to use a telephone as we have so few of them up here (telephones, that is. We got plenty of sheep). And religious fruitcakes too, who think everyone not a republican is an atheist. Cynical fits right in.

    @7 Only problem for you is congressional elections aren’t schedule until 15 months from now and a lot will happen between now and then. Such as the economy getting better because of the Democrats’ economic policies, health care reform, wrapping up the Iraq fiasco, et al. Tip O’Neill once said, “All politics is local”; he could have added, “and immediate.” Any congressional-race polls right now don’t mean a damn thing, and we both know that, don’t we?

    Hey, I’m for accountability. Let’s get Bush, Cheney, Gonzalez, etc. all out to campaign for Republican candidates. Let’s hold them all accountable.

    At least it’s refreshing to see a Republican candidate who isn’t so two-faced that he now says “Cheney who????”, as most of them do. Some even deny that Bush was ever a Republican!
