Ex-King County official pleads guilty to Internet sexual contacts with teens

Larry Corrigan, the former financial director of the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, pleaded guilty today to trying to arrange sex and having sexual chats online with someone he believed were two teenage girls.
Corrigan could face a standard sentence of up to 2 1/2 years in prison for one count of attempted child molestation in the second degree and one count of communicating with a minor for immoral purposes. He is scheduled to be sentenced May 4.
After entering his plea, Corrigan was handcuffed by King County jail guards and taken to jail.
His attorney, John Wolfe, said Corrigan decided to plead guilty in order to move on with his life. “He made a mistake. He needs to move through this and come out the other side,” Wolfe said.
Prosecutors alleged that Corrigan, 54, used two America Online screen names to chat with an undercover officer who was posing as a 13-year-old girl. Corrigan asked the girl to meet him and perform a particular sex act and bragged that he’d had sex with another teen, according to the police report.
Corrigan sent the fictitious girl pornography and arranged to meet her at a video store on Capitol Hill last November, where police arrested him.
The second charge, just added today, involves another attempt to communicate over the Internet with an officer purporting to be a 14-year-old girl, said Joan Cavagnaro, Snohomish County chief criminal deputy prosecutor who is prosecuting the case on behalf of King County because of a conflict of interest.
Corrigan has also been accused of misappropriating more than $70,000 from King County Prosecutor Norm Maleng’s campaign committee.
Corrigan admitted to the embezzlement after being arrested last year, and his family sent more than $67,000 back to the fund, said campaign treasurer Mike McKay.
But that case will be referred to police possibly this week and could soon result in criminal charges as well, McKay said.

At the same time, Bush really does not care about polls, said Calio, now senior vice president for global government affairs at Citigroup.
“He used to say when we were talking about an issue and going down the recommendations, even if the issue was highly politically charged, ‘Look, we’ve only got a short period of time here. If that turns out to be four years instead of eight, if we do what we think is right, then so be it,'” Calio said. “I would say, ‘We can’t do that. We’re going to be killed.’ But he would not wobble. He has the courage of his own convictions. He will say, ‘That’s why I was elected.'”

WASHINGTON – A Yemeni confessed to plotting the bombings of the USS Cole and two U.S. embassies in Africa, killing hundreds, according to a Pentagon transcript of a Guantanamo Bay hearing.
The transcript released Monday was the fourth from the hearings the military is holding in private for 14 “high-value” terror suspects who were kept in secret CIA prisons before they were sent to the U.S. facility in Cuba last fall.
Last week, Waleed bin Attash said he helped organize the 2000 attack on the USS Cole in which suicide bombers steered an explosives-laden boat into the guided-missile destroyer, killing 17 sailors. He also said he helped plan the 1998 U.S. embassy bombings in Kenya and Tanzania that killed more than 200, according to the transcript.
“I participated in the buying or purchasing of the explosives,” bin Attash said when asked what his role was in the attacks. “I put together the plan for the operation a year and a half prior to the operation, buying the boat and recruiting the members that did the operation.”
