Albert Einstein famously defined insanity as “doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.”
So four years into a preemptive occupation that has seen US casualties escalate as Iraq descends into a bloody civil war, it is interesting to explore how Congressman Dave Reichert’s position has evolved in response to changing conditions on the ground:
“I support the troops and the president’s decision to go to war in Iraq.”
— Seattle Times, 10/22/04“Reichert says the invasion of Iraq is part of the broader war, and he would back the invasion again, even with information now showing there were no weapons of mass destruction in Iraq.”
— Seattle Times, 10/22/04On national security, Congressman Reichert says, “I put my trust in the president.” — KCTS Connects, 1/8/06
“I would have voted to go to war with the majority of Congress and support the president’s decision. After September 11th we were attacked and people must remember that. We are at war! We are at war!”
— Speech to Seattle City Club, 1/23/06“And what I do is that when you ask me, as a sheriff, should there be a timeline? It is clear to me: no.”
— Speech to Seattle City Club, 1/23/06“I see us being in Iraq for a while.”
— Speech to Bellevue Chamber of Commerce, 8/16/06
Hmm. With Bush administration officials preparing the American people for a 50-year military presence in Iraq, it is time to ask Congressman Dave Reichert if he still puts his trust in the president, and if he too supports a permanent presence in Iraq?
8th District voters need to know if a vote for Reichert is a vote for insanity.

We still have a military presence in Germany. 62 years after the end of WWII. The allies leveled Germany. The Us led coalition did not “level” Iraq, so I think his comments are correct in that we will be there for a long while. I fully support a military presence in the heart of that region.
Of course Goldy, Rabbit, Stupid and the rest of the sheep don’t think we are at war. That the plot dismantled in NY was just silly, mis-guided, young muslim freedom fighters who of course are angry at the big bad USA….
Please run Darcy Burner again and have her tell the 8th how we are not at war and that all this “terrorism” nonsense is just “bumper sticker” slogans of the Bush Admin. See how far that gets you……
Please do that.

How about we end our multiple decade deployments to Europe, Asia, and the Middle East? Haven’t we been messing around in those countries for long enough?

Maybe someone should ask Dave Reichert if he supports Bush’s latest plan to restart the cold war by using US Taxpayer money to build a missile shield in Czechoslovakia to protect Europe from “rouge states”.
I don’t know about you, but I’d rather not have my grandchildrens tax dollars spent on this program; I’d prefer using our tax dollars at home here in the US.
I think I already know Reichert’s position, but it would be great if someone from the press got him to go on the record on this.

The only interesting question is, how long will Republicans continue this fear mongering before they realize that, in doing so, they’ve managed to turn themselves into the largest domestic terrorist organization in the United States?

4 OK, we still have a military presence in Germany, but we’re not still at war with the Germans. Our operations there were in support of NATO against the USSR, and now having bases there is convenient for support of operations in other places (like the Middle East).
The presence of our forces in Europe also no doubt helps Bush back up whatever he’s blabbing to Putin this week about how our hegemony trumps theirs.
So what do we intend to remain in Iraq for? Are we going to have to keep an occupying force there to “maintain order” for a couple of decades, or do we expect and intend to use bases in Iraq to support some other adventures in the region?

……Well said. I would say to you that the US and coalition are no longer at war with Iraq, rather we are now there to help maintain security and assist in the rebuilding efforts. Allow time for their own government and securtiy forces to get control of their own country. Our presence in Iraq will allow the US to support operations in the region outside of Iraq. It also adds a stabilizing element to the region. A region in which Iran, and Syria are becoming increasingly overt against there neighbors and Israel, which is destablizing the region.
The presence of our forces in Europe also no doubt helps Bush back up whatever he’s blabbing to Putin this week about how our hegemony trumps theirs.

………As with Germany, a US presence in Iraq protects our democtratic allies and keeps our enemies in check. I would think that the US presence in Iraq will be for decades. Very much like our presence in Europe.

Having a US presence in the middle east makes perfect sense… Keeping bases in Iraq, a al western Europe post WWII is a great example….
Your response shows how close you are to the jihadists postition with regard to the US and the middle east.
You see, we are there at the request of the new Iraqi government. We will leave if asked, but they WANT us there.
Liberals are to invested in the US losing in Iraq. Any other outcome is doom for libs. Therefore what is good for the jihadists and bad for America, is also good for the Liberal defeatists in the USA. Everytime there are US casualties reported, libs are happy becuase it furthers their agenda, just like the jihadists….
The USA will complete the mission in Iraq, maintain a very strong presence there for the long term and add a stabilizing element to an unstable region. This will all be accomplished despite Lib Defeatists like RR, R=Stupid, TFF, Darryl, YOS and all the other sheep.
ArtFart spews:
